Roast Same Old Collingwood

We have only lost one game for the last 2 months or so and only 3 for the year. Yeah, sounds like the same old Collingwood. I was watching the match today and was getting really pissed off to the point that my gf was asking me to calm down and to lower the volume but I'm not going to start thinking negatively because of one loss. Yeah, it's against Carlton, we played like shit but that's just Football. It's a funny old game but we just have to move on and I'm sure we'll bounce back next week.

Yay!! here come the negative threads

It's not a negative thread. Its the truth. We sucked. Pretty lucky we have won 10 straight really. We will be lucky to get into the top 4. Something drastic needs to change.

Its is negative because the OP said we always crack under pressure.
The fact is we don't

Yep. Top of the ladder, had won 10 in a row, shitload of injuries to quality players, you're onto it.

Mate, those 10 wins weren't always convincing ones. It only took some speed to turn our side into shit. The point I was making was that we are not playing four quarters of footy. Just take a look at last week v Freo.

The ones that aren't convincing are often the best, the ones where you're not at the top of your game yet you have enough fight and guts to find a way to win. That's how footy goes. When you happen to string a shitload of them together it's a pretty good indication that you're doing okay.

Last night? yeah we look very ordinary, there's probably a reason why teams dont win 10,11,12,13,14 times in a row and last night was it. I hate losing to Carlton more than any team going but does their win mean they're a better side than us? No it doesn't.
So despite losing I think we're still a better side. In fact the loss doesn't change one thing at all other than showing areas we need to improve on and also hopefully another part of the learning curve for our rookie coach.
I understand footy's an emotional and reactionary thing but I'm glad a lot of BF posters aren't on our coaching panel or the support staff.

The majority of the games this season has had close games the flag this year can be won by anyone in the top 8 this year that's how open the race is.

We've won 10 in a row and finally after 1 loss we overreact and now suddenly some posters have lost their faith in the team it's really disappointing.

I haven't lost faith in the team. I have seen this since our season started. We are playing OK footy....and OK footy just doesn't cut it in finals. I am hoping things improve from here on end.

We don't have to be playing our best footy just yet look at last year we peaked way to early and were drained before the finals.

I'm positive if we can win no matter how many points until finals we can hit full speed and contest for our 16th flag.

Of course we are eating our own. The pies were pathetic last night against our most hated rival. They played like they don't really care and that irks all of us passionate supporters.

It was a terrible gutless performance. There is nothing positive that can be said about it.

I could handle losing to the Cats next week as they are worthy of respect. I keep waiting for this current team to click and impress me but it seems to me they are just 'going" at the moment.

I'm pretty gutted by the crap they dished up last night.

Summed it up perfectly for me.

We won the 1990 flag losing to Essendon twice in the home and away season:eek:

Yeah I've cooled down a bit now.

I posted on the bay that I really need to try harder to not post when I'm fuming. I did well though I think that was pretty much the worst things said.

But yeah, it's obviously happened many times. Like I said though, even in my rage stupor, I still think we'll make top 4.

I don't agree with the OP saying its the same old Collingwood if he means we crumble under pressure (though I will fight for his right to express it). We had lots of close games this year and have won them all, that is not what I am worried about.

What I am worried about is our injuries and the ability to cover them, if we get a fully fit Pendlebury, Tarrant, Didak and hopefully Johnson by the end of the year, then maybe we have a chance to win the flag. Otherwise I can't see us going all the way.

Two losses to one team - Carlton. How do we avoid putting a negative spin on a comprehensive loss to the team we were determined to beat because they earlier beat us. Those people opposing 'negativity' and pretending this loss was nothing to worry about are overlooking the fact that Carlton saw our weaknesses and exposed them for all teams to see and copy the game plan to beat us.

Yes, and you'll find they are the same people who thought after losing to the cats twice last year we would just come out in the GF and beat them. Only the bloke who said we learnt nothing from round 3 has hit the nail on the thread !

Look at geelong 2009...just did what they needed to do to get by.Dropped a couple but still fired when it counted.
Everyone said they were gone, the saints would win the flag and the saints lost...2 years later geelong beat us in the grand final.

Oh and another thing remember collingwood smashed geelong in their prime.Their supporters didnt come out and say "thats it,we're done".stop overreacting.

I guess this is the game review thread???
I thought the team didn't "wake up" until the last 10 minutes or so. Strangely that was the point where they finally realized they were in big danger of losing, it's as if they just were over confident and expected to always win.
so I'm pretty confindent that they have remembered what is required at AFL level: extreme desperation, intensity and risk-taking play-on at all cost footy, like was shown in those last few minutes when it was too late. That's what we'll get next week and in an extremely intense game will beat a declining Geelong by 20 points.

When the pressure is on, we really go missing as a team. Cannot kick straight for goal. Cloke has to come a long way up the ground and therefore we have no forward marking options in forward 50. Quick ball movement really shows us up. As good as our backline is, we cannot play one on one. Exposed way to many time in the last two years.

So ANZAC DAY, vs Geelong game.. Etc... Don't count?
