I'm really not that fussed. It hurt a little more because they won in emphatic style.

The Essendon team that ran out there tonight is miles from the team that will take us forward in the next few years. You can't play with 7-9 depth players and expect to beat a good side.

If we'd lost like that with the majority of our team in then yes I'd be pissed.

P.S. Hibberd >>>>>>>>>>> Slattery

Also McVeigh and Hille are horrible, we can't drop Mcveigh because of injuries but Hille we have a more than capable player to replace him with.

Any chance we could have one game this year with Hurley, Pears, Hooker, Gumby all in the same team. Would make a world of difference having a settled spine. Show us some love injury Gods!!!!!

Why not??....why can't he be dropped for Hibberd?? If going on last nights performance..Mcveigh was terrible.........dare i say worse than Henry......

BTG: I did mention that Slattery had been moved due to McVeigh ineptitude in OP but that still doesn't excuse some of his efforts tonight. Was simply outclassed, outsmarted, outworked and outplayed.

I don't believe in going down the "take out Judd and Murphy" arguments BUT it would have been nice IF someone (anyone) took responsibility for Judd at some point. I questioned my viewing partner as to whether Judd was storing a spare football down his shorts.. because surely we wouldn't just keep giving it to him.

Watching the reply is worse than live, truly horrible stuff. Simple things like on the kick outs DO NOT kick it near Judd.. why keep kicking to 'his' side of the field and then wondering why he wins it.. baffling.

Yes we were missing a heap of players and I WAS NOT expecting a win but I now expect us to be competitive and have a crack.. not bend over to the Judd and Betts show like we were GC witches hats..

to be fair to McVeigh, he copped a hard knock to the rig cage, he threw up on the boundary and was looking pretty bad, if pears had not of injured his knee i think he would have been subbed

Prismal was shit.

They walked past him like he wasn't there. He couldn't stick a tackle. Kicking was ok today.

When you're missing the engine room second stringers get exposed.

That's crap. Until we lost Pears Prismall was one of the players keeping us in the game, along with Stanton. If we're going to focus on ineffective supporting roles for these guys from last night we should be focusing on Jetta and perhaps more strongly on Davey, who looked like the game had gone past him.

The second stringers, while outclassed, did well against a better midfield group.

As for the criticism of Ryder, it would be interesting to know how much time he spent forward instead of rucking. In the past three weeks when he played ruck we were more effective at the clearances. ATM, T-Bell > Hille.

Positives

Carlisle - looks he will be a good KP player. Did better than I expected.
Zaharakis - continuing his vein of good form.
Hurley - Looked awesome at times
Crameri - Continues to get better.
Melksham - Improving week by week.

I would Colyer to that list. Some of his deliveries by foot last night were beautiful to watch, and a vast improvement on last year.

He was absolutely horrible. Most of his problems stem from his fear of getting hurt, i believe. He is scared to tackle and put his body in front of a player, and is scared of running to an open ball is someone else is also doing so. Was gutless tonight.

Gutless may be a little harsh but watching his efforts last night was frustrating to say the least. He may have kept Yarran to 8 touches but I doubt he got too many more himself (might have got 7). He sure didn't make his presence felt or contribute enough to warrant selection next week.

Wasn't defending anyone other than Hird + co rines.

You asked why the move wasn't made? There was no move to make. McVeigh tried and failed, so they gave Betts to Slattery. Nowhere to go after that. Hardingham had to play tall.

Prismal not upto hence why geelong weren't fussed about losing him.
Ricky Dyson useless offers the team nothing
Mark Mcviegh please hang up the boots monday.
Henry Slattery the only reason you get a game at essendon is because your parents are big finanical backers of the club and invite the coaching panel over for dinner.

Really,

Do the RCB fly to adelaide every week for dinner?? wow...that is pretty impressive.

Financial backers?? Really, they must be loaded i mean, they have raised 4 boys, 2 of which are studying medicine in QLD, which is free obviously, and now have 3 grand children as well...must have a money tree at their place, maybe one for each child.

Don't comment on stuff you have NFI about, Twit

Think the problem with the McVeigh and Slattery scenario is that they both had poor games - Slattery even more so.

But we have to accept their poor performance - No point posters blaming their ineptitude on the other party and vice versa.

We are clearly missing the following ten players, nine due to injury

Watson , Hibberd , Hocking, Hooker, Dempsey, Lonergon , Lovett -Murray , Welsh , Winderlich, Bellchambers, Pears

A few of the young players last night are still inexperience, Myers, Coyler, Carlise

And then there is Gumby, surly he will at some point of time over come his injuries

So whilst I am extremely disappointed with last nights effort, on paper at least we are heading in the right direction

I agree with this comment and to the poster that I see is now red carded. This club would not exist if it was not for the patrons that formed it so if you want to play the envy card go and support a club that claimed that it came from so called struggle street, we play them next week

Slattery gets a game because Hirdy is missing most of the starting backline

Clearly Hibberd, Flect, Pears, Hooker are ahead of slatts. o and Jimmy is a third generation player and we are already wetting ourselves about the prospects for the next Hirdy generation

NLM is not best 22, he seems to be getting significantly better whilst not in the team.

It can't be same players same result because this was not a best 22 outfit. Whilst this loss is a shocker, I'm more than buoyant about next year and how we could shape up in round 1. Our depth running through the midfield will be significantly better next year and yes Watson and Hocking are massive outs. Players stand taller in their presence.

I think NLM is borderline, I rate Hibberd, Flect, Heppell, Pears, Hooker ahead of him and if Carlie can build on last night then I would place him above NLM but when we have a few injuries then I rate NLM ahead of Slatts

Fair Call but maybe thinking outside the square you look to a Myers, or assuming he will be too slow, you look to a guy like Jetta with the instruction to stay with him at least. Jetta CAN tackle when required and was having a dirty night anyway so maybe it could have been a good "suck it and see" move. I'm not saying it definitely would have worked but rather than as soon as a coach stops trying it is NEVER going to work. Its not like many of Carltons forwards were on fire.

Also came down to options for Judd.. stop him and maybe stop some of the flow.. Howlett clearly wasn't up to scratch..

I still want to make babies with Hurley

Myers too slow, but talk of Jetta and Davey is just making changes for the sake of it. He'd do no better than Slattery.

FWIW, I reckon Dale Morris or Beau Waters or Jed Adcock would have struggled last night with the lack of midfield pressure. Slatts was fine in the second Q when the midfield was on top.

Carlton had 52 inside 50's which is average by AFL standards.

Gotta think that the defence had a poor night - Conceded more inside 50's in previous weeks.

Was fantastic with the amount of ball that went up forward. Not sure what Robbo was on on Gameday today, seems to want me from Hurley. Couldn't have done much more last night except kick straighter
Agreed. It was good to see Carlisle hold his own last night. Had no chance in the 2nd half after Pears went down thanks to the complete lack of midfield pressure but I thought he showed quite a bit to get excited about. With him down back we can settle Hurley forward when we're full strength.

Yet you gave Hardingham votes?

Carlisle played well - better than i expected - But you can't say that Carlisle had no chance - Kreuzer took two contested marks against Carlisle in the third quarter - Nothing to do with midfield pressure - Merely beaten in an one-on-one contest
