Before BTG rides to the rescue of slattery.. that was just ugly. Got beaten easily by betts over and over and over again. Why the change wasn't made beyond me.. oh thats right McVeigh was getting done just as bad.

Same guys not doing enough.. Ryder, Hille, Slattery, Myers, Davey, McVeigh, Dyson, Stanton

Need to really have a look at where we are going. Thought TBell very unlucky to be dropped in favour of Ryder OR Hille but that is the only problem.

Fine losing to a better side but we were disgusting and it was the same culprits as always. And can we now finally lay off Pris? Think he has shown over the last month that when played in his correct position is a very useful midfielder.

Hird and Co to take a long hard look at team selection and balance before next week please.

Agree about the Prismall criticism, surely taken steps towards silencing.

Agree with most of your post except for the Stanton bashing. He works his ass off no matter what position we are in. The same cannot be said about a few of our players!

Surely Alwyn Davey is finished as an Essendon senior player, he is miles off where he was a few years ago.

Exactly. Stanton had 12 contested possessions, 2nd most for our team and 7 clearances which was the highest total for our team. Surely you could have found someone else to bash.....

Watching the third quarter now in WA. Absolutely disgraceful.
Slattery bought his own soap for the bath Betts is giving him. I wonder if its the same bar he took to Ballantyne???? He must have a photo of Hirdy with a goat.
Disagree with the comments about Pris. I thought it was his best game for the season. And Stanton did try hard.

Would think he's finished as an AFL senior player. Although would be happy for him to weaken another clubs list. He's never been any good.

Cmon be realistic, this was expected
we had no midfield.
WE are missing Fletch, Hooker, Dempsey, Hibberd from the back line then lose pears

Christ there wasnt much of a team to play i reckon we did well to hang in until half time.

You take out Judd, Mruphy alone from that team and they would fall in a heap.

Fletch would have put the balance there and mo way that pretend player Betts would have gotten jack all.

Prismal was shit.

They walked past him like he wasn't there. He couldn't stick a tackle. Kicking was ok today.

When you're missing the engine room second stringers get exposed.

I think there were several bombers tonight that were pathetic at laying tackles and chasing and I lost count of the times we had the numbers around the ball yet the Blues came away with the ball.

That was and I really hate calling footballers soft but that was as close as I can to using that term

Prismal was shit.

Was among our best until half time, I thought.

Slattery was indefensible. I hope The Doctor gets well very, very soon. If we were to be realistic, Slattery should never, ever run our onto an AFL field again. His... intent, I guess, is fine, and often his effort is... decent, but his skills are not within a bull's roar of AFL standard. It might sound flippant, but fresh air would probably provide us with more on the field. There's more to be gained from playing some no-name rookie defender, if we've got one on the list, and at least holding out hope that someone with a semblance of talent can take that spot, until Hibberd is fit and firing.

The curtains are drawing for McVeigh and Hille. I'll go a little lighter on McVeigh, since he was apparently ill for the final quarter (doesn't excuse the other three quarters), but Hille was as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike. We didn't win it out of the centre ONCE while he was in the ruck, at least as far as I can recall. We got it out of there when See See got in there, but that only happened a handful of times in the second half. Is he sore? If not, then what the hell?

Speaking of which, Ryder's ruck work is superb, but as a forward... he's just not providing enough. His marking ability and goalkicking is just fine, but in terms of providing leads, options, targets, whatever, he's frustratingly limited. Evidenced best when Colyer was caught in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by Blues, specifically because he had no forward option. It was almost as though Paddy expected him to evade them all and come to him. Not good enough.

Pains me to say that Leroy, my main man, has provided bugger-all in the past few weeks. Needs to seriously fire up. He has the capacity, he has the talent. He's shown it numerous times this year. But he's absolutely gone missing the past few weeks (with the notable exception of a solid 2nd half against Richmond).

Gus got a little bit high on his fumes from last week. Played like a boy.

Frankly, I expected a bit of a flogging - on paper, Carlton's team far outclassed whatever we fielded today. If I'd looked at he teams on Thursday, and seen Watson (and Hibberd) in, I'd have thought we might have had a chance. But to lose Hocking... the game was lost at 5PM a couple of days ago, I thought. Buddha's importance to our midfield is almost equal as Watson's, so... yeah, I'm not angry about this loss, in so far as it was predictable, it's just that the efforts of a select few leaves something to be desired. And just to make matters worse, it sounds like we might have lost Pears and Hurley for next week. At least we're up against the easybeats.

Must be said though, the whole experience was worth it just to see Walker's mark. My father, who believes there's a special rung in hell reserved for everything associated with the Carlton Football Club, got up an applauded that. I would have, but I was busy picking my jaw up off the floor. Stupendous grab.

Ah well. We're out of the 8, and we deserve to be. Pump some games into the kids. (For that matter, I liked what I was seeing from Carlisle. Some real courage and good effort).

Positives

Carlisle - looks he will be a good KP player. Did better than I expected.
Zaharakis - continuing his vein of good form.
Hurley - Looked awesome at times
Crameri - Continues to get better.
Melksham - Improving week by week.

The last two weeks show how frustrating Monfries is. BOG to missing. McVeigh, Reimers, Davey, Jetta, Monfries and Hardingham were poor. Slattery was fine until he moved onto Betts and Colyer's kicking is extremely frustrating.

We need to eek out the inconsistencies between their best and worst games. Hardingham should be told that if he's going to fly over packs, use your fist and punch the ball because flying for and dropping the mark has cost us a few goals this year.

Can someone tell me if he's instructed to leave his man to mark centre half back? Because he did that often and we were left with his man with space in the centre often leading to an inside 50.
Probably hasn't grasped the concept of a 'zone'. He got away with it last week with no Johncock. Tonight was a bit of a wake-up call.

Is this a stretch !

Slattery was fine until moved onto Betts - 10 minutes into the game - And certain he started on Garlett who kicked a goal early in the first quarter.

Um, what do you expect the club to do? Run out there with 15 players?

Do you see where our list is at? Probably had 3-4 players left on the list available...2 are first year players who have never played, T'Bell who is a ruck and Gumby coming back from injury.

For all the hoopola of the couple players carlton were missing, it seems everyone missed the fact that we were/are on bare bones at the moment.

He kept Yarran to 8 touches.

Didn't think he was that bad tonight.

He was absolutely horrible. Most of his problems stem from his fear of getting hurt, i believe. He is scared to tackle and put his body in front of a player, and is scared of running to an open ball is someone else is also doing so. Was gutless tonight.

Yes there are players not giving enough week in week out .
I took a look at what happened .
At half time it was anyones game , Pears goes off at half time and the structure breaks down and players ability to believe they can step up to a new position and team tactics , diminishes .Their belief has to be addressed asap.
Now on the bright side
Watson , Hibberd , Hocking, Hooker, Dempsey, Lonergon , Lovett -Murray , Welsh , Winderlich, who would be pushing for top 22 positions didnt play .

Carlton didnt have Bower , Carazzo, Jamieson, Hampson, Waite who would be pushing for top 22 .
Take out Judd , Murphy out of their lineup ( Watson and Hocking ) and Gibbs ( Dempsey ) Scotland ( Winderlich ) Jamieson ( Hooker ) and so on and you see the blues are no where as good as they are making out .

So looking at their list compared to the Bombers our future looks far brighter.

In all seriousness who the hell can beat Collingwood this year ?

Carlton. It's possible. Not based on last night's performance, since the opposition was probably closer to a 2nds side than anything, but just in general. I think they could do it. Geelong too, if they come out of this rough patch convincingly.

Collingwood aren't untouchable. Sydney came within a goal of them just a few weeks ago, after all.

I'm really not that fussed. It hurt a little more because they won in emphatic style.

The Essendon team that ran out there tonight is miles from the team that will take us forward in the next few years. You can't play with 7-9 depth players and expect to beat a good side.

If we'd lost like that with the majority of our team in then yes I'd be pissed.

P.S. Hibberd >>>>>>>>>>> Slattery

Also McVeigh and Hille are horrible, we can't drop Mcveigh because of injuries but Hille we have a more than capable player to replace him with.

Any chance we could have one game this year with Hurley, Pears, Hooker, Gumby all in the same team. Would make a world of difference having a settled spine. Show us some love injury Gods!!!!!

If you look at the Collingwood structures they have been playing some players deliberately out of position in case they get injuries .A few games ago they had a fwd structure made up of small men to see how they would cope .They left out Brown etc ( general soreness ) and they won .
Carlton dont have depth , Hawthorn have injuries , Sydney no real fwds , Geelong dont have the fwd line or constant speed and nor do the Saints so if Collingwood dont get 5 key injuries they should win ..key : Swan , Pendles, Thomas, Cloke and Davis .They would all have to be out at the same time for them to lose .
