I think we have enough youth in our side without Iles, and the majority of them aren't played just because of their youth, they are important:
- H.Shaw is still young
- Thomas accounts for the spark of about 10 normal players
- Pendlebury (although not playing) has shown he is up to midfield duties at AFL level, without having to be carried.
- Rusling is making us look a lot better
- T.Cloke helps our forward structure alot. With him leading up the ground hard, Tarrant doesn't have to be the CHF and Rocca can park his ass in the F50.
- Egan is another sparky player and I have a feeling he will step up enormously in the finals, or might feel the pressure a bit too much and drop off his pretty good form

O'Brien once fit is the perfect player to replace Iles. He is more reliable as a defender.

I like the way Iles hunches over the ball, he looks to have pretty sure handling. He's made a few blues but thats inexperience I'd say.

He seems to find a bit of time in packs and has a not bad mark. How is his pace?

I think he might need to get some contact lenses - Every time he kicks it, it travels in a near-perfect arc.

Only problem is, sometimes the player he was kicking to is standing in the middle of the arc, and his opponent is on the end of it.

It's not mis-kicking, because the ball still travels well, but it IS misjudgment, and it COULD be vision related.

If you are right (big if) this will be nothing to do with his eyesight but more to do with the problems most first year players have adjusting to the pace of the game. Dale Thomas's footskills have been nothing special at times either this year. Travis Cloke and Chris Egan also have trouble weighting their kicks correctly.

My point is that his problems seem different to the errors in skill that other first year players have.

Many other players rush their kicks, and they mis-kick them. Every Iles kick seems to travel roughly the same in terms on contact off the boot and rotation etc., but then the results vary.

Would have liked to see him get a Rising Star Nomination
He'll be eligible next year, so if he wants one, he can earn it.

The interesting thing will be Pendlebury: As long as he doesn't play a final this year, he'll also be eligible next season.

I think you're over-analysing. He's a first year player getting used to the speed of senior football.

Perhaps it's that simple, but that doesn't explain why his mis-kicks look different to other peoples'.
