Thought someone would have started a thread on him already, but no one has so I will :D [Although I did notice a few people put on new sampi avatars]. He is going to be a very very good player and that first goal of his was an absolute gem. Hoped he would have kicked 5. Anyway, he showed up that other 'wizard' at the other end of the ground. Way to go samps. Maybe another Rising Star runner-up isn't out of the question? So folks, post your Sampi comments here :D

I believe first goals are extremely important in football matches and I was annoyed when Freo kicked the first goal today. But I was right behind Samps when he gathered from the boundary line and kicked an absolute corker from 48 out, hugging the boundary!! Rode it all the way with him .... From their I knew we would win.

Sampi is a gun footballer. He and Fido will cause great problems in the forward line for quite a few years, before Sampi will be forced to do it on his own when Fido retires.

I think its great timing, because he will probably serve a 2 or 3 year "apprenticeship" type thing to Phil, then start to takeover as he matures.

Can kick a goal from anywhere, and looks dangerous whenever the ball hits the deck around him.

One thing I've noticed about him though, is that his ability to change direction doesn't seem overly great, especially for a small guy of his speed.

I've noticed a few times, he takes a good second or two to be able to stop and move back the other way.

Is this right or I am imagining things??

huh?? Changing direction is a skill, such as Judd is much better at doing it then McIntosh when they are full speed.

I think for his size, this seems to be one area that Sampi could look to improve on, although I must admit I may have just been noticing the times whens hes failed to do it and not noticed the times when he has done it.

It seems Scamper has shown what a good pre-season can do to a player. He's bulked up and seems to have found an extra zip of pace.

He'd surely be in the running for the Rising Star Award this week - oui?

Samps has been my little man for a while now. I hope he plays every game this season and he goes from strength to strength.

That first Goal of his was a ripper, but going back a couple of weeks, I can remember how he scooped onto the ball, picked it up with one hand and slammed it through goal. He really makes me jump out of my seat.

I would die if he ever wanted to leave us. This guy is going to be better than Lewie and that is stating something.

He's alot like Lewie in my opinion, I think he's just a bit faster than Lewie ever was. All in all, Im excited to see him come together. Whats he like at marking?? Any good??

Excellent player. He played well against the Hawks in round 2. Looks like Chris Lewis and plays very similar to him.

I see sampi as a loveable, playful puppy who runs around the forward line chasing the ball, and occasionally kicking freakish goals. His biggest deficiency last week was that he didn't apply any defensive pressure when not in possession- it looks like he got the footballing equivalent of a rolled up newspaper during the week, because he was right in everything this time around- loved it when he snuck up, took Parker's mark from nowhere, and slotted the goal.

He's beginning to show why he was a top 10 draft pick. At this stage, he's probably best on the HF flank- you can probably only afford one small goal sneak in the full forward line, and Scamper, despite his diminutive size, can kick goals from 50 with ease- unbelievable range and accuracy, and yesterday he also marked well out of his weight division.
So yeah, I'd play him as a smaller hf flanker opposite someone like Chick or Embley. Should cause massive problems for teams forced to find a second small defender after Phil Matera is covered.

So do I!!! He's a little golden retriever who goes running around the forward line making trouble for the opposition team!
