I have a MacBookPro which I massively prefer over any other laptop, so then I got an iPod touch, then eventually an iPad (now I have several) and so last of all I got an iPhone, just because it fits in so easily with my other stuff...

I have no doubt Samsung stuff is good, just easier for me to have all my stuff the same.

Same. Currently I have an old Galaxy S (the first one), but about a month after I got it I bought a Macbook and it's a struggle to get the two to talk to each other (basically you have to trick the Macbook into thinking the phone is a USB flash drive). So I'm just waiting for the contract to be up (because I'm on 3 and there's no way that I'll upgrade the phone early and downgrade the coverage to Vodafail) and I'll get an iPhone so it's easier to sync to the Macbook.

Currently have a Galaxy S1. Have had loads of problems with it so will probably change to an iPhone when my plan is finished, Apple products just seem to always work.

It is also alot easier to install custom roms and mix and match different flavours of the OS on Android, rooting the phone is a breeze and it is much easier to develop apps as the SDK is freely available and easy to use if you know a bit of Java.

I was unaware that some of these phones had this capability.

iPhones are pathetic. Only reason I still have mine is that I cant be arsed transferring all the data onto a Samsung. So I'm stuck with it for life :(
There are apps for that. I transferred all my mails, texts, contacts, media, etc using iOS2droid apps. Most of it was fairly straightforward

I haven't seen an iPhone 5 vs Galaxy S3 drop test that hasn't seen the iPhone win comprehensively.
Without phone covers on them, this is true, the Samsung is more fragile. But that's what (good) phone covers are for, to prevent damage from drops.

Android File Transfer.

Download that. Opens automatically when you connect your phone and then it's just a simple drag and drop into the folders.

Can't see why anyone would willingly lock themselves into the Apple universe. Have this argument with an iPhone tragic at work. His argument is always "Apple apps have to be approved by Apple, not just anyone can put any old junk app on the market." Which is one of the dumbest i've heard, some of the best/most useful apps/widgets i've downloaded have been small one man operation apps that probably don't meet Apple's guidelines but just provide a particular feature the phone may not have.

Wouldn't you rather have the option to scour the so called "junk" apps just incase there's some gold in there, rather than have Apple tell you what you can and can't download?

I do own an iPad as well as an S2 phone, and transferring stuff to the phone is so much easier, drag and drop or Airdroid, easy. iTunes can GAGF. Horrid program that follows Apple credo of our way or the highway.

BlackBerry. :thumbsu:
Right your are, work gives me a Blackberry Torch 9800 and it's a brilliant phone

For those who say that Android is solely for the 'power users' it simply isn't the case. My missus dropped her iphone in water not too long ago, after it wouldn't start she went out and got herself and S3 4G. She purely requires her phone for calling, sms, internet, music and occasionally video and she couldn't be happier. Just last night she said that there was no way she could return to an iphone now as they feel small and outdated.

this x 1million. Its fine for people that have small collections or just buy single songs, unusable for anybody else.

It's terrible for songs but it's absolutely disgraceful for photos. No provision at all to choose multiple folders to sync. You choose one folder and it syncs everything in it. I copied our wedding and honeymoon photos on the iPad because that's the easiest way to show people, then tried to sync some from our latest holiday. Any logical device would say "Ok, I'll add these photos to the ones already on the iPad." But not Apple. They say "Sure I'll sync these, but before i do i'm going to delete every other photo you had on here so that this album is the only one on there." Everyone always goes on about how they're user friendly. That's not user friendly.

If you're like me and have your digital photos reasonably organised (mine go Photos/Year/Event/Files, ie Photos/2010/Wedding/IMG001.jpg) then iTunes hates you. If (like above) i wanted to sync an album from 2010 and 2012, i'd basically have to sync the photos folder completely. The only other way around it is to copy everything you want into a new specially made "iTunes" folder to allow it to sync what you want. But it's Apple, apparently that's what defines "just works."

I'm currently using an iPhone 3GS. I know, it's old.

But I haven't paid for a phone since I was in my early 20s (a crappy Motorola) or a contract in my life (used pre-paid until last year). Always got second hand phones from people passing them onto me after they got a new one in their contract. Then got an old 3GS work phone after someone hwere upgraded to the 4. Asked the boss if work would pay for it on contract and he said yes. Now I don't need to pay for anything.

I don't need it for anything other than it's basic use - a phone. I make calls, I text. That's all I've ever needed in a phone. I do like that it's basically an iPod as well, so I can load it with music and podcasts to listen to while cycling.

Handy to have internet in a pinch, but not a deal maker/breaker for me. I don't rely on it for anything other than it's a phone. I'm happy to not be locked into yet ANOTHER expense in life for something that isn't all that essential.
