49ers traded up with the Vikings to select Arizona State WR Brandon Aiyuk with the No. 25 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
The 49ers traded picks No. 31, 117 and 176 for the 25th-overall selection. Look for coach Kyle Shanahan to have plenty of fun scheming ways to get him the ball in space. After spending two years at JUCO, Aiyuk (5'11/205) transferred and played second fiddle (48 targets) to N’Keal Harry (114 targets) in 2018, eventually emerging with 1,192 receiving yards as the Sun Devils' go-to receiver once the latter left for the draft. There's concern in Aiyuk's transition to the league as PFF charted 70 percent of his yards occurring from three straight-line routes: screens (26%), posts (25%), and go-routes (19%). On tape, his arm length (33.5") and creativity with the ball in his hands are much clearer. He averaged an elite 11.1 yards after the catch but will need to run a wider variety of routes to be more than a complementary piece in any NFL offense. A 76th-percentile Adjusted SPARQ athlete with 4.50 40-speed, Aiyuk projects to compete for a starting job as a rookie. His natural playmaking ability as a returner will immediately win the favor of league coaches.

- traded Buckner for 13
- traded 13 and a 7th rounder for 14 and a 4th
- traded 31, a 4th and 5th for 25
- traded Breida for a 5th
- traded Harold for a 7th
- traded Goodwin for a 6th round upgrade.

Turned this into:

- Buckner replacement at 3 Technique DL
- Pass rush specialist
- 2019 rental for Sanders
- Sanders replacement
- starting all-Pro LT
- block TE replacement
- offensive line depth
- less a 2021 3rd
- a madman WR who will probably lead the league in offensive unsportsman like conduct penalties if he makes the roster.

Good result for a team in win now mode and still sporting one of the youngest rosters in the league.

Projected 2021 Cap Space $74M (with all starters and key backups signed for 2021, except Williams and the starting CBs).

Expect the Williams extension to happen in course and in regards the CB position can see one existing starter re-signed, a mid range FA come in and a high draft pick next year. Safeties are under contract.

2021 draft....CB, interior offensive line and linebacker.

Speaking to NBC Sports' Peter King, 49ers GM John Lynch stated WR Brandon Aiyuk and WR CeeDee Lamb's grades were “very evenly matched” ahead of the 2020 NFL Draft.
The 49ers passed on the chance to draft Lamb at No. 14 overall, and instead traded up from pick No. 31 to No. 25 to secure Aiyuk on their roster. Lynch outlined a conversation he had with head coach Kyle Shanahan two days before the draft, claiming it might "raise eyebrows," but he would be "perfectly happy" to select Aiyuk at their original draft slot at No. 13. Shanahan agreed. From a stylistic standpoint, it makes total sense as the 49ers roster George Kittle, Deebo Samuel and Tevin Coleman, all top two at their position in average yards after the catch. Aiyuk averaged the sixth-most yards after the catch in college football last season. And in an added wrinkle, Aiyuk's former coach, Herm Edwards, is the godparent to one of Lynch's children. Surely that relationship and seamless line of communication paid off while completing background work. Ultimately, Aiyuk and Lamb will always be linked in the eyes of 49ers fans.

I don't begrudge a player trying to set themselves up for life but geez, if a Superbowl is within reach surely you'd hang tight for the chance wouldn't you?
I guess it shows whether you play for love of the game or just money.

Maybe his agent should have got him a better deal when he signed for 3 years just 12 months ago

49ers GM John Lynch has agreed to terms on a contract extension that will keep him with the team through the 2024 season.
This comes on the heels of a contract extension for Kyle Shanahan that will link the coach to the club through the 2025 season. The two form a very good partnership and have nailed many important roster-building pieces along the way. It wasn't always rainbows and roses, as the duo started 10-22 in the first two seasons together due to a multitude of injuries, namely to quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. Business has since picked up, all the way to contending for a Super Bowl last February. Lynch has been unafraid of making big decisions, like trading away DeForest Buckner this offseason, and being tied to one of the best playcallers in the NFL never hurts.

The 49ers and TE George Kittle are "not particularly close" to a contract extension, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Kittle is entering the final season of his rookie contract and did report to 49ers' facilities on time, so there will not be a holdout. The two sides have negotiated, but "it just hasn't happened yet," Rapsheet concluded. Kittle is not going anywhere, as he is the team's best offensive player. Hunter Henry (on the franchise tag) and Austin Hooper are currently the highest paid players at the position. Kittle should send the tight end market to another planet whenever a new deal is agreed to.

Jimmy Graham was the highest paid TE in 2019 with $10m (Reed & Kelce made $9.4m)

You would have to think Kittle would be looking at making around $11-12m going off that

But he wants to be paid like a top 'pass-catcher', not just a TE, doesn't he?

So it might not be that easy at all, similar to the Le'Veon 'Offensive Weapon' talks.
