Don't worry, other ruckman will still be able to take their eyes off the ball and jump straight into Sandi to try neutralise him. It's another of those rules that applies to everyone but him.

Or wait for him to back into a pack and knee him in the ribs.
If Giles jumps as high as he can, he might almost maybe reach Sandi's hip.

Ain't no way he's reaching his ribs

Is it illegal to grab someone by the hips who is jumping into you, shift their weight and pile drive them?

If there is no chance of a third man coming into the ruck to take the ball away, will the ruckman still wrestle at ball ups like they do now? Or will they be more inclined to run and jump at the ball, as they do at centre bounces?

And how will that affect Sandilands? He is the tallest and strongest in the league, but can he jump as high as everyone else? And if he stays down under the ball, will he get pinged for tunnelling when his opposition jumps into him to take the hitout, or will his opponent get pinged for interfering with him? Will he be required to run to take the hitout, or will he be allowed to stand his ground? The changes may be good for Sandilands in one way, but the consequence will be that coaches right now will be trying to work out a plan to take full advantage of the rule change.
And this will lead to another rule change, because an unforeseen consequence will cause more injuries, or cause the game to depart from what we think of as Aussie Rules.

I think we are most definitely a chance:rolleyes:

I've already put money on Fyfe for the Norm Smith ....

EDIT: it's paying $67 for what it's worth, Lachie is paying $71, Blakely at $315, Weller the dark horse at $714

I reckon the ' No third man up' rule is fantastic. It cleans up an area that has been neglected for a long time and was suffering from interpretation issues. I was getting so frustrated at every stoppage with 4 or 5 players all charging in trying to win the tap.

Not only will this rule help our midfield it will mean that all teams will require to play a true ruckman or concede the tap. Sandi will only have to compete against one player and not 3 now and he will win more often than not.

Given that we're a stoppage based team with big bodies around the ball, this rule will only help us and I can't see the disadvantages of it.

I think Sandi won't be as dominant as people here think . is a tweak by afl to neutralise last year rule of deliberate out of boundary . if skill is not good more free kick will be awarded rather than boundary throw in . You still need players in the back line to kick it efficiently rather than out of bound.

What the hell does that have to do with ruck contests?
