The value of the tallst player in the comp is besides tapping to your players which Big Bird does very inconsistently is to creat a mismatch up forward he can't take a contested mark in the Goalsquare which is demoralizing for the oppostion - overrated and over paid for the return we get

if push comes to shove and Nockers wants to head home I'd trade Big Bird to melbourne clubs keep Nockers and devlop young Connolly

He didnt really get a chance against Collingwood to show if he had improved his marking when going forward as it hardly got that deep.

I think he also misses Hase. Its just not the same when he gives it off to Schammer and Peake

He did take two contested marks (more than anyone else on the team bar Macpharlap) around the ground under big pressure.

I thought his tapwork was good , many times He tapped it to space for someone to run on to, but there was confusion amongst the midfielders.

One time in particular that really stuck out was to M Carr's advantage but instead of grabbing the ball He pushed back to block his opponent and left a perfect space for Swan IIRC to run though, grab possesion and clear the ball.

He was the least of our worries yesterday.

He is over-rated, I haven't liked Sandi since last year, year before that he was doing well. Warnock is so much better, is more athletic, tall as well and can use the footy extremely well. Sandi is over-paid and we should be giving Robbie all the time in the world.

I agree with WHAW in so far as Knockers will be the better player by the length of the footy field. Knockers is a Cox in the making.

Sandi doesnt take a huge amount of contested marks never has, but yesterday wasnt the game to say it hasnt improved based on the work that has apparently been put into that side during the pre-season. Hes not as skillful as a Cox, McIntosh, he never will. I would like him to be drilled to kick long and not lay possessions off to a midget running by. He has a good accurate kick with some depth generally. Abit of mongrel wouldnt go astray either.

The midfield makes or breaks a ruckman if they have the chemistry it makes the ruck look much better. Ours is crap atm, can you imagine Kerr, Hodge or Judd in the middle for us? Sandi wouldnt be questioned. Hase's absence doesnt help the clearances and that chemistry will need to be built with Palmer, Ibbo, Foster, Hinckley etc.

He was great yesterday. Took some powerful contested marks around the ground and provided an option. Too often we didn't bother to kick in his direction. .

He was good. Was especially impressed with his marking efforts. I think he has come along way. I have been one of his critics for a long time. I am happy to say I think he will have a great year.

Bit harsh on Sandi, given his teammates seem to be incapable of actually spotting the biggest man to have ever played the game. Maybe if they actually attempted to kick the ball to him, he might have an opportunity to show what he can do. There were at least two occasions he was one-on-one in the goal square on some little Collingwood guy (38 I think?) and not one player was interested in kicking it to him. He does need to work on his leading, but if they aren't going to go to him anyway, he may be better to save his legs for the ruck.

Well, why didn't the weavils think of that with Judd? They could have just traded Fletcher and kept Judd instead couldn't they? How is trading Sandi going to make Warnock any happier to stay?

He did ok. I reckon he will work is way into the season.

This business of moving him into the forward line as a resting karri tree very rarely works. To take advantage of his height means he has to be stationary when the ball is coming in, other wise he is just gets caught in a moving pack surrounded by spoilers which isn't the ideal place for him.
I'd rather him rest in the center square were we can use him as a link going forward or a defensive position to stop a switch through the corridor.

Sandi was very good on the weekend. Sure his tapping isn't being used to great effect but thats the fault of the men at his feet, but his kicking, marking and overall decision making have vastly improved. How many times did Sandi have a 16 possession or more game and a 33 hitout game last year?

The answer is 3.

I think Sandi is great, bit more support needed that's all.
Is Hase likely to play again this year with such an injury? I hope so:thumbsu:.
I know he will be walking in a week or so(horses mouth).

It's on again, put the boots in ................. even though 15 players had worse games.

I could see that Sandi was trying different things and if those lazy midfielders would bend their backs, some of his work may have been seen as gems.

Only one game in, Sandi showed something, midfielders ........... urrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
