Sando on 5AA

I sort of understand what he's saying about the taggers.

Ryan O'Keefe and Kieran Jack have often played roles on a midfielder but win their own footy as well. They have an offensive/defensive balance. Even Cameron Ling won his share of the footy. The way Vince has played the last few matches looks as though he's being asked to pay more heed to his defensive responsibilities.

But our mids in general... not applying pressure, not laying tackles and not creating turnovers. Opposition prime movers running around doing as they please. We always talk about winning the contested ball. That's great, but first you've got to create a contest.

Remove VB from the side or use him as a tagger every game all game.

Danger captain next year with sloan deputy.

Go back to 2012 gameplan which works because it's traditional finals footy, and fill the holes we have from the 2012 side by recruiting aggressively. Simple really?

Didn't Sando also confess that our fitness standards have dropped and we need to run out games better which is a direct result of our focus on strength work

Out with the boxing ring in with the bikes

No point having strength if you have a poor mindset to applying pressure and tackling

Well wait to be shot and hung but really having real doubts about Sando and only hope the many stuff ups -- in preparation -- selection ---attitude -- players form drop -- on field game plan and reaction tactics etc are down to got to thinking that AFL coaching was easy and he could do no wrong and now reality struck can along with Baileys return get back on track although that interview a concern.
If he does not make some changes in coaching group then he wont be helping himself .
But worry wont as Clarke should be replaced first is good friend as Milburn is and Bickley is one of Crows boys club and you know how dont like to rock the boat .

Not fit enough, focused on strength and conditioning. The rest of the comp has caught us, no Sando they've passed us. Tredrea said on Nine tonight we lost Schwerdt due to dollars and we wouldnt spend the money on Burgess.

This shows why there is truth to the saying 'clubs win premierships'.

(Players win contests, teams win games, clubs win premierships.)

Until we get a change of Board and Management we are not in the hunt for a Premiership.

Not a lot of truth in anything Tredrea says, to be honest. We lost Schwerdt because he wanted a new challenge after, what, 13 years in the job? Possibly even longer? And we headhunted his replacement well in advance because we knew it was coming.

As for Burgess, he wanted to go to Port. I guess we could have changed his mind by spending way more than he was worth, since "everyone has a price", but it would have been irresponsible, particularly given we already had a fantastic replacement in Poulos that we had specifically headhunted, and then groomed for the role for a full year.

Tredrea is just trying to stir up shit. It has nothing whatsoever to do with "being a club".

The problem is, the senior coach now has issues with our fitness.

It's only 5AA but I do recall hearing a few weeks ago that the reason Port were able to beat us to Burgess was because the AFL stepped in with one of their hand outs to ensure they got him. Hard to compete really. I mean its great we make more money, but we have to spend more, then you have the lower teams going for our staff and offering them higher up positions, so again you either pay them more than other clubs for a lower position or they go for similar money but a better title. I'm sure it adds up.

It's the guys 2 nd preseason with us + he had the advantage of doing his first preseason and the rest of 2012 under the guidance of Schwerdt.

Just more bullshitting IMO .

Don't worry though we will get it right next year .

clearly from that interview, Sando has been significantly impacted by the loss of Bailey.
I still can't fathom how the AFL penalised AFC for the Dees "tanking" nor did AFC fight it.

I would ask for a credit back on the draft pick sanctions, as quite frankly AFC being penalised for Dees is bullshit.

This is one of the major reasons we will miss the finals as we have usually been outcoached on match-day.

I would say it is another AFC oversight.

Jenny rightly pointed out that AFL made an precedent by hitting officials during the Tippet Scandal....any ideas why?

We also have the ex-demons coach charged with Tanking ...so the AFL gets us both ways.

I'm assuming since we have Scott Camporele we stuffed from the Essendon thing too (not that he has anything to do with it)

Especially when because the Demons can't afford their fines the AFL will "pay" them for them. Yet we clearly couldn't afford to lose Dean Bailey for a year.

He doesn't want to tag because the good teams dont tag!!!

I dont want us to do what the good teams do, I want us to better better than the good teams!!

Don't try and play Hawthorn or Sydney type of football, play Adelaide Crows Football

The Crows have looked slow and sluggish all season. Regardless of whose to blame, the players can look forward to getting thrashed on the track even harder than usual this pre-season.

When they brought up drafting and trading, I noticed Sando repeating the words "speed and kicking". I'd say both of these things have been a weak point this season. The Crows aren't quick enough to the contest this year and have been deplorable by foot. We just don't hit our targets like the teams in the top 8 and we don't have the hunger we had last year.

In his very first press conference, he spoke about not wanting to bring a Geelong playbook and stick a Crows logo on it, but wanted a different style of game designed to our strengths.

Last year we had that. This year we have lost our identity and are just middling in all areas.

I love Sando but he seems to have swallowed the Steven Trigg Book of Spin.

1) "We have no problems with our effort" - it's just that we don't run hard defensively and we have a poor approach to tackling.

2) "We have had trouble coping with the plus one from the top sides" - but we refuse to man them up.

3) "We struggled early in the pre-season to get our experienced players in form" - because we refused to play them in the MMC

4) "I like the development of JJ and McKernan" - not relevent but I thought I'd include it to annoy Vader

5) "We are not fit enough" - but we had a great pre-season

6) "We have the 4th youngest team in the AFL" - well this is just plain old bullshit. The average age of our team so far this season is 24 years, 7 months. This is older than the average age in both 2011 and 2012. On Saturday we will play a younger team for the fifth time this season. Yes, our team is younger than Sydney and Hawthorn but it is hardly a bunch of KIDS.

We have a lot of problems, I agree that effort is not one of them. Fitness leading to an inability to run both ways, yes. Tackling technique, definitely. But I do think the players are giving it everything.

2) "We have had trouble coping with the plus one from the top sides" - but we refuse to man them up.

If the way Sando thinks we will win a premiership is by loading up the midfield with numbers and conceding a man in the forward line, then that is the way we should play. Regardless of whether or not the short term result is that we struggle to cope with some of the things our opponents do.

3) "We struggled early in the pre-season to get our experienced players in form" - because we refused to play them in the MMC

Bizarre comment by Sando. Our experienced players have been behind the 8-ball from day 1.

4) "I like the development of JJ and McKernan" - not relevent but I thought I'd include it to annoy Vader

I agree with you and Sando. There is a footballer in McKernan somewhere and we would be making a mistake to get rid of him now.

5) "We are not fit enough" - but we had a great pre-season

Did he say we had a great pre-season? Clearly we didn't but I'm not sure he said we did.

Yep, this is a stat that got thrown up once and which is now accepted as fact. The reality is, who has the oldest and youngest teams (and everything in between) in the AFL changes every week.

Discounting the bye rounds, we have only been the 4th youngest team in the league twice this year - in round 4 and round 9. We have also been the 5th youngest twice (in rounds 7 and 8), and the 6th youngest once in round 5.

The teams that got hammered by Sydney and Richmond were successively the oldest teams we have fielded since the Showdown in round 3.

The club likes to promote within and to an extent I think its not a bad thing so long as every avenue has been explored which is the case of fitness it has not. Luckily we will have an extended pre season which I hope is spent greatly improving all aspects of our running.

The benefit at Football club level of promoting from within is it keeps the Boys club strong and intact... No one dares ruffling the feathers

And this is where the problem lies. It can be of great benefit if you take the lessons learned. This year we seem to have ignored why we have been highly regarded fitness wise in the past and gone down the wrong road.

I wonder whether Poulos' rugby background affected our fitness levels this season. He did a great job last year in developing our player's strength but does he have the expertise/experience when it comes to the endurance required for AFL footy?
