My scratch notes:

Chapman: No replacement ready to go. Process begins today. Not thinking it will be a long process but will be a detailed one. Just appointed CEO, that process served us well. Will do the same with coach.

12 months a long time in footy. Coaching is difficult. Not just game day. Keep coming back to review (which I implemented) and there were things that needed to change.

Board had to make some tough decisions. A tough call has been made. Now we go on journey to find a new coach.

Talking about players input. We listened to them, and collected the data. Review examined everything, more rigour and intensity this year given this years results on the back of last year.

Have a contract with Brenton, will be honoured, but didn't say anything about $$ value.

Rooch: Is the board embarrassed? Chapman: If we go back 12 months that management put to the board the things to help Sanderson achieve his goals. We felt removing the doubt over his tenure was part of that.

Senior players were all consulted, and All staff and departments. Tough decision. Emotional. But none of us want it to happen, but we have to focus on achieving the best we can.

Looking at protocol for search for coach today at the board meeting.

This is never easy, and has to be done with empathy.

The numbers aren't like $1.2 million and the amount is confidential, and can be met quite easily.

Was it mutual? Chapman put his viewpoint forward. Brenton didn't necessarily agree. But after discussion it became clear they were heading in different directions.

Giving the players an out? We all accept some responsibility for the season. But at the end of day, it comes down to the coach. Has to be able to build good relationships. And win.

We want to select the very best leader of people, of players.

No time frame, but hoping it won't take too long.

All of us are under the microscope. This industry most scrutinised of all. Starts with CEO and Coach. Then board. We will make these decisions. And continue to make them. (Inferred there will be more?)

Brenton naturally optimistic person. Quality person. He is a good coach - strategically sound, game day assesses situation well and makes good judgement calls etc. but.... also has to be able to do promotion of and engendering leadership program. Right culture and high performance. He's good in the media and external communication was very good.

Why players have so much power? Not the case. Management runs the club. Board sets the tone. Players are key stakeholders and must buy in. Haven't asked the players if they are happy. They want an environment where they can be the best that they can. Confident the players will support this decision.

Brenton took it very calmly, very maturely. Doesn't agree with it. Thinks we've made wrong decision.

sounds good and sensible

I've become really puzzled by the waterworks from Chapman over Sando's reaction...

Little bit of info there as well Fagan was initially told before he was unveiled, so it looks like the decision was made prior to that on the weekend and they sat on it for a few days

Leading candidate Lleyton Hewitt has some fantastic odds, might have to jump on that one

I don't know who frames Spotingbet's markets but they clearly have NFI.

Must think there's a lot of mug punters out there, have more hope of picking the coach with a "mystery" bet or an "easypick" than some of the names mentioned in that field!

its still very interesting that not one player has tweeted about the event. no thank you's or anything

I know it has come as a shock to a lot of people, and someone mentioned how well Gold Coast have done it with the rumour that McKenna will be given the flick soon, but I almost think the way we have done it is better for Sando and his family. I know some will shoot me down for that comment, but what would you prefer - weeks and weeks of media constantly asking you about your job, how would losing it impact on family etc etc, or copping it short and sweet? I think it would be stressful with a long drawn out saga for the coach and his family/friends.

Seems to be a lot of people who think we should have had a replacement all lined up prior to sacking Sando and announcing it, but I think they are missing the point which is - is Sando the right coach to get us a premiership? If not (which is the conclusion the club came to) then he needed to be sacked, regardless of who he might be replaced with.

The other question is, how close (in terms of the playing group) are you to a premiership?

You guys finished 10th this season and by looking at the clubs above you, it's hard to see how Adelaide will finish better than 7th next season
