We're now into the final third of the 2019 SANFL Premiership Season. There's just six more rounds of football to go before the business of the year and the chase for the Thomas Seymour-Hill Trophy truly begins. At the moment, of major concern to many SA footy-heads is the two AFL reserves sides that have been charging their way up the ladder. The Tigers are wedged in between them on the ladder and they will face both of the Crows and the Magpies in consecutive weeks very soon. The Double Blues and the Panthers aren't far behind them but there are two genuine threats to their positions in the form of the Redlegs and the Eagles who sit just outside. The other three are already going to the drawing board for next season with September action well out of reach, including the Roosters who still look set to go from premiers to paupers. Six rounds left, people.
Welcome to the Round 12 edition of the SANFL Wrap-Up.
The opening game for the weekend would be the sole Saturday afternoon fixture with the Northern Derby between the Bulldogs and the Roosters at the X-Convenience Oval in Elizabeth. It was back in Round 4 that the Dogs had their last victory in what was probably their most complete four-quarter effort this season when they beat the Roosters by seven points at Prospect Oval. Since then the Dogs have limped from one disaster to the next, but the Roosters have not done much better with their last win coming in Round 2. Both came off second best in the split round from the last fortnight but one losing streak was going to come to an end. Shockingly it was the Roosters having a belter of a first term, they would go into the quarter-time huddle with a 20-point lead after a goal-fest that had the scoreboard reading 8.3 to 5.1. The Dogs' second quarter was riddled with horrid shooting on goal, but the lead was cut back to 14 points by the long break after they scored 2.7 to 2.1. Centrals would keep coming when play resumed in the third quarter and almost tied up the scores at the final change, but would be five points adrift when the three quarter-time siren sounded after they scored 3.3 to the Roosters' two goals. But to the dismay of the Dogs faithful, their team coughed up a horrid final term and the Roosters would climb out of the negative zone for a 28-point win after they scored 5.1 to 1.2. Aidan Tropiano was named North's best afield, while the Dogs named Justin Hoskin as their best.
The rest of the weekend's action took place on the Sunday afternoon, the next game takes us to the Maughan Thiem Kia Oval in Woodville where the Eagles faced the Tigers. Back in their last encounter in Round 6 at Brighton Road, the Tigers handed the Eagles a 50-point hiding. This loss must have shaken the Eagles to life, they came back from the State match bye to win the next five games including a hammering of Norwood at The Parade in Round 11. The Tigers rebounded from their loss against South with a 69-point demolition of Centrals during the same weekend of the split round. The Tigers had the better start to the afternoon, scoring 6.1 to the Eagles' 2.3 to lead by 22 points at quarter-time. But that work was brought undone in the second term as the Eagles held the Tigers to just 1.1 whilst scoring 5.1 for themselves and would lead by two points at half-time. The third quarter was an all-out battle with the two sides having a shootout, the Tigers would miss several opportunities on goal as the game would be tied up at three quarter-time. A goal by the Bays in time-on among their 3.3 to the Eagles' 3.1 locking up the scores at 65 points each going into the final term. Unfortunately for the Eagles their accuracy went askew at the wrong time, the Tigers taking a 15-point win after kicking 4.1 to 1.4 with three of those goals coming in a six-minute window from the 17th minute. Luke Partington was voted as Glenelg's best afield, the Eagles named James Boyd as their best.
Game number three for the weekend takes us down to the Flinders University Stadium in Noarlunga, the Panthers taking on the Double Blues in a clash of the southern Adelaide clubs. When these teams last met in Round 5, the Blues were victorious by 22 points despite being ahead by as much as 45 in the final term. The Panthers would then win four of the next six games, including last week against West in tough conditions at Richmond. The Blues had a similar run but lost to the Crows by 21 points on a sodden and muddy Unley in Round 11. This was Sturt's opportunity to leap into the five and they started on the right note while the Panthers butchered a couple of early chances. The Blues scored five goals without a miss to the Panthers' 2.2 to lead by 16 points at the first break. It was the Blues' turn to get bitten by the inaccuracy bug in the second term, but the Panthers weren't able to make up any ground as the margin crept out to five goals by the long break, Sturt having scored 3.3 to 1.1. The third quarter was goal-for-goal with both sides scoring four majors each, a single point would be cut from the Blues' half-time lead thanks to South's two behinds to one. The Blues would continue to hold firm in the final term, they added 3.4 to 2.3 to finish the afternoon as six-goal winners and vault into fourth spot on the ladder. Aidan Riley celebrated his 100th game in style and took out best on ground honours for Sturt, the Panthers would name Joseph Haines as their best.
We don't need to travel too much further for the fourth game of the round, we now head to Alberton Oval where the Magpies hosted the Bloods. It was back in the season opener that these clubs last met, the Magpies winning by 31 points at Richmond after a six goal to two final term. A disappointing finish that day for the Bloods who appeared to be up for it up until that point. The Magpies have had the benefit of road-testing several Power frontline players in the last few weeks and have won their last three games including a seven-goal victory against North, while the Bloods are still searching for a second win after going down to South. Things weren't going to improve today. Even with some accuracy issues on goal in the opening quarter, the Magpies kept the Bloods scoreless whilst scoring 4.4 to lead by 28 points at quarter-time. The Bloods would eventually find their way to their goals in the second term, but their 2.3 wasn't going to do much for them as Port stretched their advantage to 47 points by half-time after they added 5.4. The Magpies' tall timber brigade were simply too much for the Bloods, as were their multiple goal-scorers... nine of them. The Magpies peppered their goals in the third term for a score of 2.5 while the Bloods kicked 1.1 as the margin was extended to 57 points come three quarter-time. That was the last score that West got, the Magpies keeping them scoreless again whilst adding 3.2 to their score to win by 77 points. Billy Frampton kicked four goals and scored best on ground votes for Port, while the Bloods named Kaine Stevens as their standout on a forgettable day.
The last match for the week takes us to the inner eastern suburbs, where the Redlegs clashed with the Crows at the Coopers Stadium in Norwood. After being up by 23 points at half-time back in their last hit-out in Round 6, the Crows kept the Redlegs to just nine behinds to the entire second half to win by three goals. It was nothing short of a humiliation for the 'Legs, who would then drop points to the Eagles two weeks later. Norwood would then win the next three, but the Eagles would strike again in Round 11. Adelaide have shown no signs of slowing up unless their senior side needs back up, the Blues becoming their latest victim last week. Both sides had some goal-kicking yips to start the afternoon's proceedings, the Redlegs scoring 4.3 to 3.4 in the first term to lead by five points at the first change. Things would start to go pear shaped for the home side in the second term though, the Crows restricting them to four behinds and kicked 2.2 for themselves to lead by five points at half-time. Norwood's inaccuracy continued to cause problems for them in the third term, the Crows extending their lead to 14 points with their score of 4.2 to 2.5. The Redlegs couldn't find the big sticks in the final term, scoring a lowly three behinds while the Crows jogged off to a 37-point win after they scored 4.2. Patrick Wilson kicked a pair of goals and was named best for Adelaide, the Redlegs voted in Matt Panos as their best.

CROWEATERS FINISH U-18 CAMPAIGN WITH WIN
South Australia ended their AFL U-18 National Championship campaign with a victory against the Allies at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne on Wednesday night, while the team they defeated in the series opener went on to win the title. The Croweaters had the better first half, beginning with a 3.3 to 1.1 first term and following it up with a 3.2 to 1.1 second term to lead by 27 points at the long break. The Allies mounted a comeback in the second half, SA having a hard time finding the majors in the third term as their lead was brought down to within three straight kicks by the final change. But the Croweaters held their ground in the last quarter, both sides scoring 2.2 as SA finished the tournament on a high note with a 17-point win. The championship would go to Western Australia -- the side SA beat in the first match -- who defeated Vic Country in the last game of the series to clinch the title. Harry Schoenberg (W-WT) was voted as SA's MVP, he also landed a spot in the All-Australian side along with state captain Will Gould (Glenelg), Dylan Stephens (Norwood) and Jackson Mead (W-WT).

SA/NT GIRLS TAKE FIRST BLOOD AT U-18 CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Central Allies team opened their account in the second phase of the 2019 AFL-W U-18 National Championship tournament, with a four-point win against the Eastern Allies side from NSW, ACT and Tasmania at Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast this past Monday. South Adelaide premiership duo Teah Charlton and Montana McKinnon were the standouts for the Centrals, while fellow Panther Hannah Munyard and the Eagles' Jaimi Tabb were among the goalscorers. The next game for Central Allies will be against Western Australia on Wednesday afternoon at the Fankhauser Reserve in Southport, followed by a date with Queensland at Bond University on Friday.

JUNIOR CROWEATERS FALL TO METRO
While the Under-18's race has come to an end, the Under-16's are just getting going again but it has seen the South Australians suffer defeat at the hands of Victoria Metro at Southport on the Gold Coast on Monday. On a sodden Fankhauser Reserve, the Croweaters led by a kick at quarter-time mainly due to Metro's inaccuracy. The conditions would make a big score pretty much impossible, but the Vics found a way as they kept SA goalless for the second and third terms, building up to a four-goal gap by three quarter-time. The Croweaters outscored Metro in the final term but they couldn't reel them in, going down by 21 points. SA have a few days to regroup before heading to Brisbane to face Victoria Country on Friday at The Gabba.
