Hi Footy fans...

Not one soul in the whole of this country could ever had seen the two things happening in the last year. First, the Tigers were finally able to fill one hand's worth of premierships after taking out their fifth ever SANFL title in their history. Second... well, take a look around. Not since the second world war has there been a scenario such as this. Almost everything short of general life itself ground to a halt as the COVID-19 virus swept across the globe, with governments forcing society into strict quarantine measures. Along with it, all sports were put on hold. That was three months ago. However through our resilience, thoughtfulness and adaptation, for us SA footy-heads the wait is over. As of this weekend, football is back and Glenelg can defend their hard-won flag, albeit in a shortened season. Sure, there may be some debate about how people will remember this season and its eventual champion... but we're all relieved that some normality is returning.

Welcome to the 2020 SANFL Premiership Season kick off.

This season is going to be real interesting. There's going to be more than a few rounds missing this year, as far as we know there will be at least a dozen home and away rounds and the state game against Western Australia is cancelled. The finals will have a final four to decide the premiers and here's one big kicker for this year. With the AFL's edict that no AFL-listed player will line up in state leagues across the board, Adelaide and Port Adelaide will not be participating in the SANFL this season. That's right... no Crows and no Magpies in 2020, so already there's a different feel to the year. The first two rounds are already confirmed and they will be played at Adelaide Oval with two games on each Saturday and Sunday and a ticket ballot system has been put in place for SANFL club season ticket holders and members. Now as this was being typed the SA Government have approved 2,500 people max for each game, which is about 500 more than initially mooted so things seem to be moving along well. Here's another kicker for you, this season the players at the eight clubs are playing for nothing more than their jumper, meaning their income will come solely from their normal jobs. So if there's anytime that clubs need you, its now. When things really start getting back to normal, get to your club and eat, drink and be supportive of your club. And hey, that goes just as well if you're an away fan. We're all in this together.

I'm keeping this thread simple as this time, so here's the nitty gritty on the teams this season. They were all current three months ago and I know that there's probably more than a few that have either come in or have left the state and have been unable to return as yet and have vacated their spot. Or with the uncertainty that surrounded footy this year they had to leave. So here's the ins and outs, taken from the SANFL website.
