Amatuer football anywhere in the country is a predominantly a thug's game. To suggest otherwise is bordering on foolish.

Absolutley laughable statement. Possibly the biggest load of tripe I have ever seen posted on BF.

Fair comment actually...moreso in the lower grades/divisions

If you happen to see an extended replay of the incident ie a minute or so before , keep your eyes on a Schubert(sp) for North

About 20 secs before the kinghit, the ball goes into the Centrals forward line. Schubert and Gowans are running towards the ball (on extreme far left of screen). It's not clear, but Schubert appears to give Gowans one in the ribs. Gowans goes down.

From that point on, Schubert goes running after the ball which is now headed towards the boundary line. Gowans goes after Schubert and if you follow his eyeline, he's going for nothing other than Schubert.

The kinghit was a disgrace, but was a square up. He's going to claim provocation, so I'd downgrade it. Give the firing squad 5 bullets instead of 10.

I've been a huge fan of the Gowans boys over the years. Besides their ability to play good football, they are also excellent at pushing the boundaries and putting the opposition off their game.

Unfortunately James stepped over the line in a big way today and his reputation will be tarnished forever because of it. Will now be remembered by many in the same way that Steven Sims is.

I'm standing by four weeks.

But- I'd imagine the boys will be remembered as larrikans with a shit load of premiership medallions and three Jack Oatey medals (so far ;)).

Cheers...Gowans was asked about his fat lip...thats when he mentioned Schubert

Nah I’m sorry I’ve had enough. I’ve held back while everyone has praised him and while he has for some reason become the cult hero. He is as average as they come. He’s a great athlete and his work rate is terrific, but I’ve had enough. I am so over mediocre footballers with huge deficiencies. How can a 25 year old AFL listed player, cult hero no less, consistently miss set shots from such gettable shots? What about today’s debacle. Kicked 1.3 and another OOF.

I'm fed up with him, sick of everyone praising a guy who can’t even freaking KICK!!!!! :thumbsd:

Obst shows so much more potential. Agile, quick, aggression, courage, and only 20!

Gill has one flaw in his game, his kicking, however I wouldn't say he is the worst in the game, Mathew Richardson is shocking from about 10-30 out, Riewoldt goes through stages where he can't kick straight, Anthony Roccas only good when he'd outside 50 and don't even get me started on ruddy Travis Cloke, who you'd lay 1 million on him to miss a set shot on goal without the blink of an eye and he won the B&F for a club in the top 4.

Just because a bloke is a bad kick on goal doesn't mean he is a dud, look at his ability to create goals from absolutely nothing, that is what sets him apart from the likes of Perrie and Mcgregor and his defensive pressure in the forward 50 is as good as or even better than matty Bode's and how much did we miss him this year.

Gill should definitely be played as a lead up CHF, his in game kicking is fine, play him in a similar role to Riewoldt and have a player like Welsh or Hentschell if he is good deep in the 50, give Gill the task of getting it to these blokes, same with Burton.

He's faster than Perrie, takes a better mark than Perrie, covers more ground than Perrie, is better at ground level than Perrie, has more elevation than Perrie, has more creative flair than Perrie...the only area where he doesn't have an advantage over Perrie is his goal kicking. He is not the focal point for goal scoring, but he is a great option to get the footy to on the lead up. Besides when all is said and done has he really been consistently worse than Richo, Cloke etc in front of goal when playing for the Crows? Not really. He has earnt the right to try to get things straightened up and create a career for himself in 2008. It's all up to him.

Well said, Gill has so many attributes except for one his kicking I hope it gets sorted out because if they can get this guy to kick he will be a dominant forward for us. If he doesnt learn how to kick well though a time will come when it will no longer be tolorated at the club.

He has everything else though the work rate, his marking ability, atheticism, he is a smart footballer etc. Definately worth persisting with in the hope to improve his kicking.

If he gets four weeks, he should consider himself very, very lucky. I'll think he'll get around 8 weeks.

Only by Centrals fans. The rest of the league will continue to think they're cocky thugs.

Brutal but true.

King hit a bloke from behind witha massive Roundhouse to the face with about a minute left off the ball.

In the AFL it would be about 8 weeks.

I thought it may have been Norths number 24 as he "accidently" stepped on the head of one of the Gowans earlier in the game.

AS for the derogatory comments re the Gowans, you can guarantee 8 other SANFL clubs would bend over backwards to get them if they wanted out of the Doggies.

U DOGS!!!!!!!!

Great win by Centrals yesterday. From the start it felt like our day. Dutchke's goal late in the first quarter was special. Then there was Callinan's specialty in the second qtr - running out of a pack into an open goal.

Congrats to Chris Gowans - first player ever to win 2 Jack Oatey medals.

Great to see at least one Crow with a premiership this year in Griffin.

Finally, to those who have made petty comments about the northern suburbs, you are nothing more than pathetic scum who seriously need a life. I also bet some of these tools haven't lived in the northern suburbs, and as such have NO RIGHT to pass judgment.

CEEEEEEEEEENNNNNNNNNNNNNTTTTTTTRALS

I have lived in North Adelaide, does that count?;)

Well done to Centrals, best team by far all year.

I am just glad we won the flag last year as I would be even more depressed about this than I am.

I greatly admire the Gowans, they both played superbly today, they are SANFL winners and I wish they played for Norwood

But that was a dreadful act. Of course it doesnt erase their 6 flags, but I'm afraid it did unecessarily tarnish an otherwise perfect day for Centrals. He needs to get about 8 weeks for that act whether it was retailation or not

Can you believe the SANFL tribunal only handed out a 3 game suspension:eek:!

What a joke.

What a joke.

It was always going to be a penalty less than its true worth once they delayed hearing it for a week.

Now that the passion and emotion have all subsided, the penalty goes down too.

IMO Gowans would have got 4 to 5 if he went up 2 days after the event.

3 games

That was a dog act and deserved ALOT more IMO.
