Maric is having yet another stinker. He's just not improving. Can't get a touch, can't win a hit-out, can't have an impact up forward.

Yeah i'm disappointed too. What it's his 1st week back in the league after a 10 week or so serious injury, he should have at least kicked 5 and had 40 hitouts. It's shame you don't have the same lofty expectations for your overrated Norwood/AFC boys.

Your understanding of the game is embarassingly limited.

IIRC he played a reserves game, 2 shocking league games, then dominated a ressies game and then today was his 3rd game in the seniors.

Maric is in terrible form though, after kicking an early goal it looked like he might be in for a big day. He is still yet to show anything which resembles his form from last year which earned him a Crow debut. He was absolutely terrible when I saw him against North a fortnight ago.

Relax. I'm not writing Maric off, he’s still a great prospect. But on what we’ve seen this year he’s not going to add to his games tally at AFL level. The thing is, Meesen is almost good enough to make it at the top level as a CHB/CHF as he wins a lot of the ball and has good skills.
Other than Maric’s ruckwork there isn’t a lot to work with IMO. He has a slightly awkward kicking style, too often he looks for the quick handball to a running midfielder, and he doesn’t possess great speed. If Meesen can add a few kg’s and improve his ruckwork, he is without doubt the superior prospect. Both are out of contract at years end, I doubt both will stay, I’m just throwing up the question of which one you would make the priority of re-signing.

What are you basing that outlandish comment on. His stats would disagree with you.

Yeah that was last year.. he has shown nothing this year, all I expect is a bit of an improvement but he seems to be going nowhere.

C'mon mate you can't be serious. He missed the first 10 or so weeks with a serious injury. We won't see the best of Ivan for at least another month. I will be suprised if he has any impact at all at AFL level this year.

What? And you say my understanding is embarrassingly limited? :D

This was his 5th or 6th league game of the season. He hasn't had more than 6 possessions in a game. I didn't expect him to come back and dominate, but this was his 8th game of football for the year now and he's still showing NO signs of improvement. It’s a worry, I would've thought he would be showing some signs of improvement.

4th week back iirc. 3 weeks Ressies and 1 week league

He looked like he lacked confidence SC

His first game back was Round 4 against Glenelg. Played half a game so this would be his 7th game of the season, 3 in the reserves and 4 in the league.

Obviously I didnt recall correctly :p:eek:

Cheers Macca... what did you think of the day?

I thought both teams played a high standard of football. The umpiring was ok and twice Sturt have won basically by being able to kick straighter

He hasnt. Port had the bye last week so if he played reserves it would have been with a different team.

I tell a lie, its his 5th league game of the season.

Played 2 reserves games in Round 4 and 5 (half a game in round 4).

His first senior match of the year was in Round 6. His stats for the year have been:

R6 - 8 disp, 2 mks, 13 ho
R7 - 4 disp, 3 mks, 10 ho
R8 - 3 disp, 1 mk, 13 ho
R9 - 3 disp, 1 mk, 16 ho
R11 - today

I said "almost" did I not?

Meesen averaged 13 possessions and 5 marks per game last year, and for a 19/20 year with about 75% game time that is not bad at all. He moves well enough to be a KPP, is obviously fit enough judging by his draft camp results, and has good skills and reads the play well. Make no mistake his ruckwork has a long way to go, but if that improves potentially we have quite a complete player.

Oh and BTW mate, this was Maric's 8th game back. 5 league games, 3 reserves. :thumbsu: 1st game back I think not. :p

I thought the game was terribly over umpired. Woodcock has no clue. Both sets of the supporters were going mental at the umpires today.

I thought the first half was probably a poor standard but the second half was great gritty tough football. Was bloody dark though. Last quarter was terrible and probably the darkest ive seen at a day game.

Sturt have a great group of youngsters there. Very very talented group of youngsters. Mcdonald was exceptional, Herring is good, Crane is good, Button, Darling, Gregory, Mcleay. If they can keep hold of most of them then they will win a flag with this group.

Yep but I found it to be ok . Only issue I had was with the 25m and no advantage paid ruling.

They should have turned the lights on at 3/4 time not halfway through the last...got a nice ironic cheer when they came on
