Courtesy of Ecky on snoutslouts, Sellar kicked 3.1.

Firstly good news that he is in the Glenelg senior side and kicking goals, but how hard did he have to work for those goals?

Last night Scott Welsh kicked 5 goals but he kicked 3 goals in the final quarter when the game was all but over. Glenelg thumped the Bloods today; did James Sellar kick his goals when the heat was in the game during the first quarter or when West Adelaide was well and truly beaten?

Stats = overrated.

He kicked 3.1 as posted above, surely "Sellar played well and kicked a few goals" will suffice. Who cares if he had K:15 HB:10 M:8 as that doesn't tell the whole story you statwhore. It is difficult to judge his performance today as there was no opposition.

Good call RL :thumbsu:

I seriously doubt West applied any heat today at all mate so any goal would have been pretty easy work. As long as he gets through these games injury-free then it's a positive.

Absolutely correct, he just needs to stay injury free now and play the rest of the season in the senior side.

Headed down to the Bay today, Douglas, Sellar and Hinge did pretty well.

Douglas

Possesion Estimate : 20
Score Estimate: 1.3 (gave a certain goal off to Sellar in the square)

I know I'm biased, but I thought he really played well today. Played mostly on a HFF, spending some time on the ball. His efforts were fantastic. He chased, tackled and had umpteen hard ball gets. Set up many goals for his teammates through his pressure. An example was he ran 30m to run down a West opponent. Spent a fair portion of the 3rd term off the ground getting a cut above his eye stitched up. Could've easily kick 4 or 5 as he was often ignored by selfish teammates who wouldn't centre the ball and marginally missed a few shots. Only downsides of his game I thought was he slipped over once, and scrubbed a kick. Also thought he used his body very well in contested situations.

Hinge

Possesion Estimate: 15-20

Score Estimate: 1.1

I didn't see a lot of him as I was mainly concentrated on the Bays forward line.

What he did, I thought he did well. He didn't really get much of an opportunity given the lopsided scoreboard and West Adelaides crapness, but he provided good run from defence and kicked a nice goal. Only downside to his game today I though, was his lack of awareness on occasions.

Sellar

Score Estimate: 3.1

Jeez, I never realised how big Jimmy is. 195cm my ass. HE'S HUGE. Built like a brick outhouse.

Spent a fair bit of time on the bench, probably about 50% of the game. To be expected coming back from injury and only 1 game in the reserves. His 50% game time was probably split halfway between forward and in the ruck.

As was pointed out in previous reviews, Jimmy carves up in the ruck. Well that was my observation from today anyway. His tap work is quality, will more often find one of his midfielders cruising past. I thought he dominated.

Up forward he looked good. Presented well and used his body well in contested situations. Was stiff not to get a few free kicks as he was being scragged everytime by his opponent. Probably should've only ended up with 2, but got a nice Joe the Goose from Richie that he could've kicked himself.

i was at the game, sellar wasnt a stand out but i wasnt really looking out for him! richie, hinge and sellar all showed some good signs! sellar took a few good pack marks which would be good for the crows!

Did he do enough to demand a game next week?

At this stage, especially after he has just came back from an injury all he should be looking at is getting a week in, week out.

The AFL stuff is not going to happen this year anyway, just get some good consistent form with the bays.

yeh i think he did, i mean im not mark mickan but yeh i think so. tbh i thought kirk was decent last week but he was dropped for jimmy, i like the fact how he can go down forward and take a good pack mark!

I'd also like to add that Kirkby is a champ. They were giving out the balls to the kids after the game, and some little tacker hopped over the fence and ran over to him, I'd guess this kid was about 2.

He got the footy :D

Oh and there was a great rumble in the middle early in the last quarter.

Finally just on Sellar. There's just so much to be excited about with this lad. He's going to take a while to develop in a key forward role, but he's going to be a star.

That was the funniest thing all day.

I must also add, I liked the look of Button, with a bit of work he is going to be a very good player.

Only 18, he is 198cm and 98kg, so he is a staunch bastard. Looked good in the ruck, but I think his real forte is going to be up forward, very effective up there when he went up there.

Still, they were only playing West

Awesome report Bus!! :thumbsu:

Is it safe to say that Sellar has grown a bit?

I don't really know. But from looking at him today, I find it hard to believe he's only 195cm. Given that he was so bottom age when drafted, it's very possible that he could've grown.

Agreed. I put Douggie in my three best players today on www.snoutslouts.org.

His first quarter was brilliant. So glad the Cows have the bye next week, so we get to see him (and teach him some more about footy) :D next week!

PS Next Saturday, Port v Glenelg @ Scumberton.

Live on TV, but even better...

Be there and watch the Magpies lose to the Bays for the THIRD time in a row!
(and Hingey, Douggie and Sell play if you want).

Interested in some of you guys (Bays supporters) thoughts on Ruory Kirkby. Was Hawthorn Rookie listed two years ago, and can definitely stand up and take a strong pack mark.

I like him. I don't think he's quite up to AFL standard, but a very good SANFL player.

Really impressed me, when I looked in the book I was surprised to only see him listed at 189cm.

Seems much taller, he is very agile and has a good pair of hands.

Like Bus, I dont think he'll ever make it to AFL Standard, but he will be a very good SANFL player.

Another player who impressed me today was Justin McConnell. Does he ever drop marks?

I thought Sellar presented really well all day. Got on the end of a few kicks after leading hard. Looks really good in the ruck. I think he should hold his spot.
Hinge looked good early near, had about 5 touches in the first few minutes, then as the game blew out he didnt have much to do, when he did go near it he did everything right.

Dougie also had a solid game, chased and ran hard all day.
Great day down at the bay today.

BTW Meese was playing for the West Reserves today.

I only rocked up late in the 4th term of the ressies game, so I can't comment.

Looks very mobile but didnt do a hell of alot, I only saw the last quarter though.
