For those who said Darren Pfeiffer’s place on the list was in jeopardy, then they will surely shut up now. He was brilliant today, finishing with about 30 possessions and kicking a lovely snap goal with a minute remaining. Played across the HBF and did it brilliantly. He was easily the Legs best as he was prepared to back himself in heavy traffic and he ran hard and provided plenty of rebound while shutting down his opponent. Well done Darren, quite comfortably Norwood’s best. :thumbsu:

Reports on the others coming shortly.

Consistency – let’s see him do it again next week and then the week after that and after that......

One good game in 6 week will put his place on the AFC list in jeopardy.

Yes but he was that good today.

John Meesen:

Meesen put in a very, very good performance, especially in the first half. He started in the forward line and then moved into the ruck where he worked hard around the ground. At about the 20 minute mark of the first term Pfeiffer delivered a spearing kick to the lead of Meesen and he took the mark low to the ground. From about 45 out he then went back and converted. So in the first quarter he had about 5 possessions, 3 marks and a goal.

In the second quarter he again was rotated through the forward line and in the ruck. His leap has definitely improved and he won a fair share of hit-outs, unfortunately our midfield aren’t prepared to work so most of his taps were ineffective. He again worked hard around the ground and he would’ve had another 3-4 possessions and a few more marks.

In the third term while up forward in a congested pack he booted it off the deck and it went through for a goal, his second of the game. He put in a lot of effort today and he probably finished with about 15 possessions, 10-15 hit-outs, 6-7 marks and 2 goals in a great all-round performance. He looked dangerous up forward and with a bit of luck could’ve finished with 3 goals. Another week back and he improved his output; a good sign.

Thanks for that Drummond, and it's pleasing to see that he did put in the type of game that he is capable of.

What we need to see from him is a run of games like that to tell the world that he is deadly serious about wanting to be an AFL footballer.

Meesen was flipping SUPERB:thumbsu:

Dominated the ruck, carved up around the ground, kicked at least one goal and it was a ripper.

All this while spending sizable portions of time on the bench.

I haven't seen him play a great deal, enough, but not a lot. That was easily the best I've seen him play. I cant remember him clearly losing a ruck contest. What a star performance :thumbsu::)

Pfieffer was great

Sellar was a bit unlucky as he really worked hard. Skills let him down on occassions, but that was the best effort I've seen him put in.

Hinge - can't say I noticed him. I'll preseume from this he wasn't very good.

He does and he definitely has the talent. He's had a horror run and as long as he strings a few games together he’ll show everyone what he’s capable of. And I hope now that he's played a terrific game off the HBF they will leave him there and allow him to gain some consistency.

Bryce Campbell:

Typical game from Bryce, he worked hard when in the midfield and he looked dangerous when up forward. As we were getting beaten in the middle for most of the day I was disappointed he spent so much time up forward, but he did some good work up forward. He took a great overhead mark in the square late in the first quarter and kicked the goal.

In the second term he got a free kick about 30 out on a tight angle and he drilled it. So he finished with 2 goals and would’ve had about 20 possessions. His tackling was brilliant yet again and these types of games will bring him close to selection with the Crows.

Luke Jericho:

Well, what can I say? He took 2 or 3 beautiful overhead marks and in the second term he took one, wheeled around and booted the goal from 50 out. However with Jericho he’s likely to stuff it up the very next passage of play. More than once he tried to be too fancy and take on half the Glenelg team only to be caught holding the ball. He clearly has talent but it’s the slack efforts like I mentioned that’s his undoing. Needs to stop trying the flashy things and just stick to perfecting the basics. Decent game but so much frustration once again.

James Sellar:

Sellar started the game deep in attack and didn’t have too much of an influence. In one contest he tackled well inside the forward 50 and won holding the ball; however from 45 out he had a shot and it never looked like being a goal.

He rucked a fair bit today and again I was impressed with his ruckwork. Despite the fact he’s 195cm he could be an AFL ruckman if need be. His vertical leap and knowledge and understanding of the position will allow him to be a ruckman despite his height. Up forward he didn’t do a lot, I don’t recall him kicking a goal but I could be wrong. From memory he had two shots at goal however missed each time. He presented well at times and made good space between his opponent however the delivery wasn’t flash.

It’s hard to predict his stats but he probably would’ve finished with 10 odd possessions and almost as many hit-outs. I’m not sure what to take out of his performance because as a forward he did very little, but when rucking he was impressive. And he and Meesen had a good chat after the game as they were up against each other on a few occasions.

John Hinge:

Hinge started well and provided great run from defence. He was allowed too much space and as a result he won plenty of the ball and hurt Norwood on the rebound. I felt he died out of the game after half time but he would’ve collected roughly 15 possessions. He was caught holding the ball a few times trying to take on a few too many opponents. Pretty good game from Hinge.

Sounds like a good day was had by our lads:thumbsu:

Cheers Drummond and bus24

You have to wonder if Roosterlad will be that cheerful to tell us about GIll, Perrie and McIntyre after what happened at Prospect today:eek:

Agreed with your comments.

Meesen was very good, and I’m glad that someone else noticed him so people can’t claim I’m biased. His first half was a good a performance as I’ve seen from him. He really did dominate around the ground and he took about 5 marks in the first half alone, one a beautiful contested mark against Sellar and co. 10 metres out. He kicked two goals, won a lot of the ball, rucked well and all his disposals were on the money.

And I can’t say enough about Pfeiffer.

Glad to hear about the Norwood boys doing well, especially Meesen, was getting a bit worried about him for a while, it would be nice to see him push for AFL game soon

That would then mean that someone will have to get dropped – and we all know that never happens. :(

You know what; I’m so fed up with the AFC being so conservative. Meesen played a great game today and sooner or later we HAVE to play him or else he’ll leave without making his debut in 3 years with the club. I heard that out of the 2004 draft he’s the only member of the top 20 not to make his debut. Injuries and form have prevented this from happening, as well as the conservative nature of this club.

I think if Meesen plays another good game next week, then role the dice and just let him make his debut. Some will scream that he doesn’t deserve it, but I don’t want to hear it, we need to give him a go and see what he’s capable of. I would hate to see him traded to a Victorian club and let them discover his talent on the bis stage. I want to see him given a chance with the Adelaide Football Club before it’s too late.

ROLE THE DICE FOR ONCE!

This what *****es me off. Even if he does get a game ( which I doubt), it will be probably be in the last few rounds. So he will effectively have 1-3 games of football to save his AFL career with us. Big ask.
