You know what; I’m so fed up with the AFC being so conservative. Meesen played a great game today and sooner or later we HAVE to play him or else he’ll leave without making his debut in 3 years with the club. I heard that out of the 2004 draft he’s the only member of the top 20 not to make his debut. Injuries and form have prevented this from happening, as well as the conservative nature of this club.

I think if Meesen plays another good game next week, then role the dice and just let him make his debut. Some will scream that he doesn’t deserve it, but I don’t want to hear it, we need to give him a go and see what he’s capable of. I would hate to see him traded to a Victorian club and let them discover his talent on the bis stage. I want to see him given a chance with the Adelaide Football Club before it’s too late.

ROLE THE DICE FOR ONCE!

I usually don’t agree with a lot you say Drummond but this time you are spot on the money, let’s take the conservative gloves off and give him a go before it’s too late.

I wouldn’t say this week but the week after, especially if he plays another good game for Norwood.

This what *****es me off. Even if he does get a game ( which I doubt), it will be probably be in the last few rounds. So he will effectively have 1-3 games of football to save his AFL career with us. Big ask.

And only get about 25 – 35% of the game.

Out of interest, who out of Hudson and Maric do you guys plan on dropping for Meeson in your ideal scenarios?

Because it's not like any of the three have the talent to play as specialist forwards/defenders.

where would u play him? the ruck seems to be working well with huddo and maric. so i assume you would bring him into the forward line?

Why not play him up forward?

Its not like we have a tall target down there at the moment, at least it might free up welshy a little bit.

Because we're trying to win games and if it's decided we need another tall forward you'd think Griffen, Gill and Sellar would be used before using a player who is not a natural forward ...

I would put him in a forward pocket

FF: Meesen ~ Ricciuto ~ Burton

HF: Welsh ~ McGregor ~ Knights

Nathan Bock should move back into the defensive 6 and play as an attacking defender. With Nathan Bassett being injured we need to have another big bodied defender back there, Kris Massie was molested all night Nick Riewoldt, it will not get any easier over the next 6 weeks where we have to find a match up on Pavlich, Lucas, Tredrea, Brown and Rocca.

I am also sick of the inconsistent form of Ian Perrie, sure he gives 100% and shows plenty of heart but at the end of the day it talent that wins premierships and I don’t think he has enough talent to lead us to a piece of silverware in September.

We could be here for hours as that would cause a long winded debate. :)

u make good points about bock moving back.. depends on how many weeks rutten is out for, too... if any (fingers crossed). we are going to have to rob peter to pay paul.. esp against essendon.

but as for perrie, his value is as a leading forward up the ground. he would do this much better than a slow kenny and lacklustre welsh. welsh should only be in the F50... thats his strength so it should be adhered to.

Paul Salmon was not a natural forward……560 goals latter I guess he is.

No disrespect to Jonathan Griffin but he has been given a go this year and will get more games next season but it’s time to look at a down a different road and exhorted all the possibilities.

I would love to see Sellar get a game, but he is not ready.

Meesen may not be either but I would like to see him given a crack, I was also like to see Gill given a shot. I dont see the point in recruiting a bloke to fill a hole if needed, and when we are struggling up forward he is not used.

changes have to be made, something has to be tried.

I think way too many people are going over a scenario where they are so afraid he's going home that they want to gift him games to either encourage him to stay or to at least pump up the trade value. If that's what the football club also wants by all means go and do it

but

if our goal is still to win games and make an impact on the finals you have to be putting your best team on the park with the tried, tested and triumphant players. If Meesen's form warrrants a game in Ruck he'll get one, everyone just needs to chill and remember if he goes home, it will indeed suck but the sun will still rise the next day.

IMO we need him down back as well as Rutten and Stevens to help cover the tall forwards.

Each to there own I guess but I value McGregor’s contribution to the team’s structure and forward line over Ian Perrie.

Scott Welsh can be used as either a lead up forward or a half forward. If he used on the half forward line, he has to make sure he is applying the pressure to keep the ball in the area. IMO something he doesn’t do nearly enough but when he does he is very good at it. 40 goals over the season from a half forward line is very attractive, Scott Welsh can do this job.

exactly. people are afraid that the afc has wasted another top 10 draft pick. thats what it seems to come down to. when meesen is good enough for a game, he'll get one. until then i hope he plays consistently for the leggies and can get them into the 5!

Good to hear Meesen put in a good performance. We could maybe stick Maric up forward. Maric played a bit up forward as a junior and he has done quite well up forward for us this year in his little time up there.

I believe that we are sick of being seduced into believing that we have a forward line good enough to win a premiership only to be let down, year after year.

How many more years do we have to put up with a poor performance at a critical time and have the season amount to nothing.

Marics ruck work is looking really good so I cant see him being played as a forward. On the other hand I could see Griffen in that role.

So close to the finals, Meesen is going to have to rely on an injury to get in.

Meh, i think we would have won a premiership with our current forward line had Roo not been suspended in 2005 or had Biglands not been injured last year.

But the idea that Meesen of all people would improve our forward line is completely bizarre. Drummond might be able to help out here but presumably his tally of two goals today would be his highest in one game? Surely if you want to improve the forward line blokes like Gill, Griffin and Sellar would be better options?

Mate you just seem quite panicked about Meese going home. If you think two or three nothing games in a forward pocket are going to change that your mistaken.;)

0 more years... cos i dont think we'll make it far enough to be let down at this stage. thing is though, we do have a forward line that is good enough... its just injured or not fit.

FF: Bode - Welsh - Roo
HF: Burton - Bock - Perrie.

Not the idea of John Meesen playing as a forward, it’s someone different.

He can walk out the door tomorrow for all I care; I just want a change because this group of forwards are going no where fast.

Change is not a bad thing.

You are dreaming –

Bode as a forward pocket is a good player and will make a difference. :thumbsu:
Welsh as a leading forward is way too erratic and inconsistent to make a difference during the finals. He needs the midfield to be on top before he can kick a few goals
Ricciuto – brilliant player but his body is nearly gone and we cannot control how long it will stand up for.
Burton – a fit Brett Burton will give our forward line plenty of spark and should be kept :thumbsu:
Bock – not a natural forward, doesn’t have the endurance to make multiple leads and burn of his defender. Play him at CHB :thumbsu:
Perrie – not even going there

Drummond is right though we are pathetic at rolling the dice with our first rounders and our development is amogst the slowest in the AFL. At least 12 out of the first 16 picks from the last draft have played this yea.r Sellar is among the very few that havent, Pfeiffer one of our first round pick from last year hasnt played and Meesen hasnt played from 04. So while other teams are trying out their first round picks from this year we are still yet to try ours from 04 let alone a first round pick in 05 and 06.

If our injuries to big men are bad this week, then why not bring in Perrie and Meesen. Maric has proved he could play up forward, so Meesen could get a gig in the ruck.

Maybe Hudson 50% ruck time, Meesen 30% + 20% forward time, Maric 20% + 30% forward time.
