Saturday July 19
Glenelg v South (Glenelg)

• Midfielders David Mackay and Andy Otten will both line-up for South. For Glenelg James Sellar and rookie Ed Curnow will both line-up in the reserves, that is of course unless Glenelg decide to call up Sellar after a strong showing in the reserves last week.

So Sellar is still with the reserves this weekend? Might pop down for a look...

sounds like Walker is ripping it

4 goals to Walker only 2nd term and he has also missed a couple from 50m

I went out and had a look at Sellar in the reserves against South Adelaide today. Sellar played pretty well and by reckoning finished with 20 possessions, 6 marks and kicked 2 goals. He spent the majority of the day in the ruck with brief spells up forward. Sellar absoulutey dominated in the ruck and won most taps and gave his onballer first use of the ball on most occasions.

His first quarter he was reasonably quiet with only 4 possessions but in the second quarter he started to lift and took a really good contested mark just outside the goalsquare which he then converted the goal. Just when he started to get into the game he was taken off for a rest which I thought was an ordinary move by the Glenelg coaching staff.

In the third quarter Sellar started up forward and he had a terrific quarter. He took 3 marks (One contested) in the first five minutes of the third quarter including a goal after a mark. He presented really well and looked every bit a quality forward.

The last quarter Sellar resumed in the ruck and once again dominated in the middle and had a few possessions in the middle. Half way through the quarter he was taken off for a rest for five minutes which i couldnt really understand why.

Sellar kicked 2 goals, kicked a couple of points (missed an absolute sitter from 20m out) and one of his snap shops was going through for a goal but was just marked on the line. One thing that really impressed me about Sellar today was his aggression. Quite often he would bump into his opponnent and really show a bit of aggression. Sellar also showed he is quite quick and his workrate was alot better that what i saw from him last year. One piece of play he called for the ball in defence, didnt receive but just kept running and eventually ended up in the forward pocket.

Sellar is definately going to be good player for us and I think in a couple years time he will really start to show why so many people rate him so high before he was drafted.

Cheers for the report CM32. If only he was 5cm taller.

When Sellar was playing up forward in the third quarter he looked really good. Like i said before he took one really good contested mark and another mark he took was was on the lead. He definately appeared to be more aggressive and I just like the way he presented himself in the forward line. I couldnt believe Glenelg took him out of the forward line halfway through the third quarter.

People say he's an 18 yo kid and that he's small.

Take a look at this?

Seems like he's put on heaps of muscle and weight since he was drafted early this year.
He's not a small kid that's for sure. He was an absolute rake last year.

Walker in goals shocker. You wouldn't believe it.

How's his power running been?

With Danger and Walker to come into the team next year in our starting 22 our future does look bright.

But we do need other players to come to the party.

How good is Petrenko? Have never seem him play at SANFL so if he were a descent player to have him come into our team next year it augurs well for our future.

The question most importantly is what are we going to do with Trent and Brett? As I am assuming Rhett is gone. I dont think we can carry both on them on our list.

Its sad as once all those players from our 98 flag are gone an era would have ended for the AFC.

With that said, time to build a new one.

Are there any other SANFL players out there we could recruit to enhance our list that may have missed the draft last year? Like a 19 or 20 yr old????

thanks

Gill hitting form in a struggling team...

Into the 3rd, he has 4:3, and 17 possessions.

Once fit (and all the stars align), he is still our best CHF option in the short to medium term imo.

Do not delist, especially given Burtons injury.

Short term imo. Hentschel in a wheelchair > Gill. But I agree, Burton's injury has bought Gill another contract for sure. Not necessarily a spot in the 22 however.

Write up about Walker anyone?:thumbsu:

Just how many goals so far and round about how many posessions

Gill has 6 out of 7.

We're losing to South by 6 goals :o. Glad they won't be playing finals :D

Gill kicked 7 for the day. Only saw a bit of the last q after switching from the Cats--Bullies massacre. What price a recall next week?

I'm not sure.

Did he kick 1.75 goals in each term, display some power running and was his contested marking a feature?

Then maybe.

Well thats even better. Cheers.

Turned it on in the third quarter. Very uneven performance. Possibly reserves next week.

Tick.

Tick.

Tick.

Please leave him at North though, even though we play the Bye next week so we probably don't need him.

Well he's a chance.

However, did he spray a shot on goal with his shorts around his knees, with some dodgy green undies on?

That's the true requirement.

I saw three Crows players in action today. Ed Curnow and James Sellar for the Glenelg reserves and Andy Otten in South's league team.

Reserves game:

1st Quarter:
Curnow started in the centre on the wing and Sellar was in the ruck.

Curnow found a reasonable share of the ball in the first term, although got caught for holding the ball twice just as he was about to kick. I counted 1 kick and 6 handballs for the first term.

Sellar dominated the ruck in the centre but would only occasionally ruck around the ground, generally if the ball was more towards the forward line. A couple of times he floated down back to clog up space. He had just the four handballs to begin with.

2nd Quarter:
Both players started as they did in the first quarter.

Curnow had his first spell on the bench around the 10 minute mark, before coming on after a 5 or so minute break. It was good to seem him get boot to ball more often this quarter, finding 6 kicks and 1 handball.

The one thing I noticed about Sellar is that he is a very good ruckman. He has a superb leap and excellent timing. Early on in the term he snuck down forward and took a mark right on the goal line, he steadied for a checkside shot at goal, his first for the day. He came to the bench shortly after Curnow and came back on at the same time, where he went up forward. I counted 4 kicks for the term.

3rd Quarter:
This quarter Sellar started at half forward and Curnow was in his usual position.

Curnow was doing well off of packs and ball ups by perhaps handballing a little too often. At one point he tried to handball over about 20m, to which he didn't make the distance. Generally though, he is quite good at reading the play and is often in the right position. Later in the term he marked nearthe boundary line in the pocket. I think he then tried to have a snap shot at goal although instead his kick sailed across the face of goal and was marked by someone else. He set up another goal after he received the ball in the centre and bombed it long into the forward line. He came off at the 25 minute mark, only to return 5 minutes later. He was handball happy for this quarter though with 8 to his name and just 2 kicks.

Sellar got off to a good start with a shot and goal from around 20m out, after marking form a one on one tussle with his opponent. He found the ball shortly after near the goals, but decided to square the ball up where it was marked for a shot on goal. He then later received the ball about 30m out and a snap shot, but it was touched through. He gave a good chase in the centre, showing good acceleration, nearing three quarter time. He finished the term with 4 kicks and 3 handballs.

4th Quarter:
Sellar began in the ruck and Curnow was positioned at full back on a player similar to his size.

Curnow was looking sharp with a spoil on his opponents first marking attempt. Later in the term he received a knock one on one with his opponent, but was able to play on and seemed alright. Not finding a lot of the ball in defense, he wandered up the ground a couple of times, before eventually being put back into the centre. His final quarter was a little quiet with just 2 handballs.

Sellar took a nice mark across centre half back, before showcasing his confidence, running across the ground and having a bounce before disposing of the ball. Unfortunately he missed his target. Later on he had a shot at goal from about 40m out on a slight angle, the ball came off the side of his boot and he scored a point. He came off the ground halfway through the term before returning to the ground 5 minutes later and finishing the game in the ruck. His last quarter was also a little quiet with 3 kicks and 1 handball.

Total Stats:

Curnow: 7 kicks, 17 handballs, 3 marks, 2 tackles.

Curnow is obviously not as confident in his kicking as he is with his handballing. He was quite good today, but would have done better if he could add another dimension to his game so he's not just a link in play.

Sellar: 11 kicks, 8 handballs, 6 marks, 2 tackles, 25 hit outs, 2 goals, 2 behinds.

I really enjoyed watching him ruck today, probably his strongest asset to his game. He was good around the ground and presented as a target up forward. Would have been in the best.

I'll have a report of Andy Otten's 3 quarter which I got to see later on tonight and also a video and some pics :thumbsu:
