In any case, you clearly had no idea about his kicking, as evidenced in this thread, or would be if you hadn't deleted all your posts in it, resulting in what looks like me talking to myself for almost the entire third page.
GG, fd.

I have been fully aware of his kicking but have backed him as a superior option to Perrie since the start of the year. I am just very disappointed that this couldn't be done earlier.

My posts have been steadily vanishing for some time now. Don't know why.

FD what is the standard of the opposition? I ask you as you seem to be an expert on every single young player linked/listed with the AFC.

i lived in broken hill for a while a few years ago. the standard of the comp is ok but not great. there's only four teams so you get pretty accustomed to the opposition! it would definitely be a great training ground for a young gun like walker though. he'd be playing against stronger bodied men every week and would have to cope with most of the comp gunning for his head. he'd definitely be made to work hard, so it's a credit to him if he's coping with that and performing well at a young age

Apparently Tippet was rated as a 1st round pick by Sheehan (main AFL draft guy).

He was saying that he was suprised he didn't go in the first round, he's meant to be pretty special. Looks like he weighs around 100kg too.

I think Ashley Fernee was supposed to be pretty special too.

If he wasn't doing year 12 he would be playing SANFL.

Although I'm surprised he didn't board in Adelaide.

Maybe thats a condition of the scholarship, and he's staying there to remain eligible?

Lachy McGregor is from NSW but didn't get a scholarship and is now playing Glenelg ressies (even a game or two in the seniors I think) and playing quite well, so who knows.

That's not at all how I remember it.
Regardless, we'll leave it at that and I'll stop shitting up a SANFL thread.

Nothing wrong with drafting a 20 year old.. Aish.. or 21 I dunno how old he is..

Look at WCE, Priddis, 17 contested possessions on the weekend, he's the steal of the year in the draft.

17 contested possessions / 4 contested possessions ;)

not much difference.

????? that's not true. plenty of guys who are "ball magnets" are too slow for the highest level. did you mean to say something else?

I meant every word

How can one get 40 possessions if they are too slow ? Ball magnets by the very term get to where the ball is or will be. Greg Williams was adjudged to be too slow. Did he suffer at the highest level

You cannot possibly compare the league in Diesel's time and now! The game has evolved and the pace of the game has increased significantly!

You don't need to be quick to get to the ball. You can read the play better than anyone else and make up for your lack of leg speed with footy nous. Nothing wrong with that.

Rightly or wrongly, the game is much quicker these days and unfortunately players like Diesel would find it tough to get drafted because of it. I suspect his draft camp results would be absolutely crap but his pure football ability would be off the charts!!!!

Maybe its hard for some people to understand by the bat has lifted in terms of athletic ability and players with lack of speed get overlooked. Some make it into the league the hard way (Priddis, Porplyzia etc) and others fall by the wayside and are never heard of again in AFL circles (Fisher).

You can't apply that sort of thinking to today's game. Its like trying to fit a square peg into round hall. Just not going to happen ;)

Stiffy the comment was that Priddis was thought a ball magnet by the AFC yet too slow. I challenged that by saying ball magnets by their nature cant be slow. Are we now so concerned with leg speed that we forget the natural ball getters? Its no use being fast if you dont know where the ball will be

I used Greg Williams as an example and feel Diesel would still get the ball in todays game... because he read the angles and knew where to be

Slow is only a problem when your opponent has the ball 2 metres in front of you ;)

I heard Graham Cornes talking about John Hinge last night. He reinforced something he must have said the week earlier and that was that he thought Hinge showed a lot playing as a midfielder and that he'd made this observation when he was moved there for the 4th quarter two games ago. And after playing a full game in the midfield on the weekend and obviously being named best and having a great game, Cornes thinks he is really suited to that role. It's interesting and he is someone that might be worth persevering with for the Crows.

Wasn't that the year we rookied Ryan Nye instead of Priddis, which means we ignored a supposedly slow ball-magnet midfielder for an equally paced non ball- magnet half back flanker

I think so . I wanted Priddis and posted as much on here... I do think the AFC had Griffin and Priddis and felt 2 WA boys would be 1 too much

Any sport that has a national team called the SOCCERoos, probably should stick to calling itself by it's proper name SOCCER

Actually the proper name is football. Maybe stick to that :)

You ought to find out the origins of the word soccer before you make any further stupid comments.
