Good riddance.

They were forcing their opinions on the viewer and were only choosing to show statistics and facts that supported their views instead of presenting a balanced viewpoint and letting the viewer decide.

There was the Statins, Wi-fried and one that was canned by the ABC before it went to air about anti-depressants.

Quote from the statins episode:
Reporter, Dr Maryanne Demasi: Have we all been conned? In this episode, I'll follow the road which led us to believe that saturated fat and cholesterol cause heart disease, and reveal why it’s being touted as the biggest myth in medical history.

She spoke to 3 "independent" experts - 2 of them wrote a book together about "The Great Cholesterol Myth" and the 3rd wrote the foreword for the book. Not exactly throwing the net wide on opinions is it.

Yet the ABC's own internal report showed no editorial standards were breached but still pulled it from air. Why?

I think there has been more science backing the skepticism about Stains since that show went to air. From memory the problem the ABC had was splitting the opinions across the 2-parter so that the first show didn't have the requisite balance. I imagine the ABC was spooked by the idea someone might suffer health problems and sue the ABC for saying Statins were bad.

The Wi-Fried story was far more of a beat-up, and I think like many people in these Internet days, Demasi may be chasing the high she got off the back of that initial Statins attention. Wi-Fried seems like the results of getting into too many online arguments and echo-chambers and trying to 'uncover' another big story before there was any evidence to back up the concerns.

I guess they couldn't fire her without facing questions about why editorial controls failed. She's gotten legal on the ABC before. So instead that sacked the whole show, outsourced it, and admitted it will now cost more money.

Maryanne Demasi should've been sacked years ago for reporting complete bullshit. She no doubt contributed to the whole thing getting axed. Shame is, with her delightful looks, she'll be the first to find a new gig. A Current Affair or News Corp Sunday tabloids (column with a big shot of her head) probably.

But the show itself should've stayed or been remade into a new science show.
