The WA governments plan (after caving into the vocal elitists at Perth Modern) want to destroy what is currently WA's premier sporting facility.

This is what the future of Subiaco Oval looks like.. upload_2017-7-20_0-13-1.png

Never mind the millions that has gone into building it and the millions it will take to pull it down, what about the loss of such a good facility to WA Footy. And once it is gone it will never be replaced. One only has to look at the very ordinary facilities at most grounds to see what the future looks like.

Now I have a pretty radical plan to not only save Subi Oval for WA footy but a plan to save the WA taxpayers having to shell out 20 million to upgrade that monstrosity of a failure... the WACA.

Below is the email sent to The Minister for Sport, The Treasurer, The WACA, The Subiaco CC, The Vincent CC, The WAFC, The Perth CC, The Subiaco FC, The East Perth FC

Subject: A better plan for Football and Cricket in Perth
G’day All,
I have been listening to all the discussion… well as much as I can… and it seems like once AFL matches move to the Stadium and West Coast move out to Lathlain there will be an important, expensive, piece of sporting infrastructure left under utilised in the coming years, Subiaco Oval.

To me there is a way for WA football and WA cricket to make some important potentially cost neutral advancement, but it will take someone without an axe to grind to be able to see the value.

So without any more blah, here is the bones of my idea…

Leederville Oval
.. Subiaco Football Club move back to Subiaco (can only imagine they’d love to go “home”)
.. East Perth Football club move to Subiaco as co tenants (can only think the facilities are as good or can be made better than Leederville)
.. Leederville is sold off for residential/office/whatever… that’s got bring a lot of millions! In sales and future rates.

Subiaco Oval
..WAFC stay at Subiaco and make it the home of WA footy (and if they have been allocate space at the Stadium they should lease it to some rich sports oriented organisation)

The WACA move to Subiaco Oval
and the WACA is sold off for residential/office/whatever (that’s got to bring a lot of millions!)

YES I KNOW… emotionally the WACA move is a BIG downside… but lets face it… apart from the “hallowed turf” of the WACA and the old scoreboard there is very little left of historical significance at the ground. The stands are post 70s concrete blobs with bits a pieces tacked on. The oldest stand was torn down to make way for temporary scaffolded capacity for 1 day internationals. The “hallowed turf” has been altered and rebuilt many times.

But look at the upside
..The wicket square could be a drop in like they will be using at the Perth Stadium so can utilise the same facilities.
..The seating capacity generally could be reduced to say 30000 (still way more than the WACA) to make it more comfortable by increasing seat spacing, converting seating on the south east and south west to grassed areas
..Utilise the grassed “carpark” area to the east for practice wickets
..Convert some of the corporate/other boxes to a members bar.
..Redevelop the Roberts road end with a “new” small stand with seating from the Lillie Marsh stand. And upgrade those crappy wooden pews in the “Subi” members area.
..It’s on a proper public transport link.
..Superior Facilities and rooms to hire out for events

I’m sure there are upsides and downsides that I haven’t considered but for a government looking to save money, and for organisations like the WACA looking for money to redevelop I think you all should have a think about this Idea.
Sincerely...

So far 3 responses... and to be honest I'm not expecting any more.
.. Emma Cole The Mayor of Vincent says..
"...In relation to Leederville Oval, East Perth and Subiaco do have long term leases there, and we do love having the WAFL in our Leederville Town Centre. If they ever did decide to move on to another oval in the future, Leederville Oval is precious open space so we wouldn’t sell off or develop."
..Heather Henderson Mayor of Subiaco says..
"...Some great ideas. Thanks for sharing .Some of them are in my vision for the future of the Oval."
.. Mick Murray Minister for Sport and Recreation tows the party line..
"...The development of the new Perth Stadium is an exciting time for the respective sporting

codes and for all Western Australians. The WA Labor Government recently announced
a new secondary school for the Kitchener Park site adjacent to Subiaco Oval. The new
school site was chosen to address the projected inner city population growth and to
alleviate the pressure on Shenton Park and Churchlands High Schools.
As part of the new school development, Subiaco Oval will be redeveloped to be shared
between students and the local community. The new precinct will be home to the
secondary school, new housing and mixed-use developments and the retention of the
Subiaco Oval playing fields.
The State Government will continue to work with the Western Australian Football
Commission and the WACA to achieve the best outcome for the sports and the WA
community. Thank you for your interest in sport and recreation in Western Australia.

So that's it a valuable piece of WA sporting infrastructure will be destroyed to appease the vocal elitists at the top of the hill.
