If the pre-finals bye is to stay, then the AFL should move the Brownlow to somewhere Monday-Wednesday of this week off (clubs could be consulted).

It's an award that is completely irrelevant to the finals, so it has no business being jammed into the build-up of the biggest final. I'm fairly confident the Grand Final can stand on its own two feet for the week!

Another thing could be hosting it in a non-Vic state every other year, on a rotating basis. We're not exactly talking about taking the GF away from the 'G here (a discussion for another time!)

Thoughts?

With eight teams still playing that is a lot of players who won't travel interstate for the award.

It would certainly cheapen the night.

The All Australian team could be named this week too, I don't believe the panel choosing them would be influenced by anything that happened in the last weekend of games. It would either validate their opinion or be discounted as "not being consistent enough"

Point is, they have already got the team.

About 97% of the hype around it is the ability to bet on it, and the 3-4 weeks post conclusion of the season allows fifty billion bet types to be manufactured and considered, increasing the hype of the event

Moving it so soon takes away some of this hype, thus they won't do it

I wouldn't mind it being moved to the Friday of this week off but it doesn't bother me too much.

Grand final week is pretty fun with all the extra stuff.

The bye is the thing that should **** off. Why the need to completely kill momentum as we head into the finals?
Yep, maybe Thursday / Friday night for Brownlow / AA Team, leave Saturday and Sunday arvos for televised state league finals, with Saturday / Sunday night for Legends /Women's SOO.

Yup, this is a good point. And if you do it this week, players from the other 10 clubs would be still coming down off benders.

Agree with others though that the bye week should be well and truly ****** off.

Yeah if you are going to have a bye - then might as well do all the post season awards like AA and Brownlow during this time.
I agree its just a distraction to the Grand Final.

The bye is a joke. Effectively cancels out the entire seasons and refreshes a new 4 week season. Basically it's turned a finals series into a mini round robin.

How about, instead of this godawful event which appears to be more of a WAG parade than anything else, they just total the points up after the last game and tell everybody who won. It's intensely boring.

All for it. Best case scenario is to do away with the bye completely, but if it's persisted with then the Brownlow should without doubt be filling the space.

Just another missed opportunity by the AFL. If I was a bookie I'd set the line at -10 years until the idea even occurs to them.
