Also armoo, just thinking here.
With your rules and definitions on the kpps and smalls, would the talent pool of smalls run thin? Making it hard to feild 4 sd and 4 sf?

Perhaps feilding 18:
2kpd
2sd
1 ruck
2kpf
2sf
+9 mids

?
Im up for any setup though.

In an 18 team comp it runs thin but in a 12 comp team it should be fine. I actually like that aspect because it's not just about picking the 20 best mids like supercoach and means more players are significant than otherwise would be.

If we do encounter issues I'd probably rather we look at adding flexibility to play 7 defs / 5 fwds or vice versa. Or allowing a ruck to play third tall.

There will already be 9 mids in most sides as it is because of the benches.

You only have to play 2 smalls at either end anyway. Kpp can play in the pockets.

Monday kick off sounds good but How many will we be allowed to keep from season to season?

I'll only join if everyone understands the best they will be able to finish is 2nd place

Yeah are we talking keep a few or dynasty?

Essentially keep all players from one season to next. There will be a minimum three delistings like AFL and a draft each season.

Exceptions may be if we expand, then players will have to be made available for the new teams to draft from.

Like your style, but cue more questions about the rookie list..........presumably then the zero game requirement is only for the initial draft? We won't be forced to promote our rookies if they progress in real life?

I do have a problem though - the app version of the prospectus only classes players as def, mid, for or ruck. Anyone know of an online list somewhere?

Correct. Once a player is rookie listed they are on the rookie list all year. After one season on the rookie list they can either be retained, upgraded or desisted. After two seasons it is upgrade or delist. This is true even if they are traded between clubs.

It should be in the paper copy. Here are last year's KPPs. Obviously we will be drafting without confirmation on positions so there will be guesswork involved.

Thanks - no unusual decisions that I could see and agree just have to pick cusp players knowing there's an element of risk that they may fall foul of changes. Carlisle is a case in point he's def-fwd in the 2015 prospectus so presumably could pick for either end but the 2016 May class him as just a kpd whereas your list has kpf

Hopefully get up to 18 or an even number at least by Monday.

Do you have a list of the smalls?
Not having the prospectus myself im wondering where the line is drawn.
If they are available as def only in supercoach this would qualify as a back flanker? What about hodge/hibberd? What about r gray in fwdline?

Is there a classification for Mediums as well? Because then that gets messy.

So what's the proposed positional structure? Cos most teams have 1 or 2 small forwards, and 1 or 2 small defenders. The rest are mediums or fwds/mids and HB/mids

The prospectus lists them as either a Key Defender or General Defender (which is probably a better term for our game as well now that I think of it.)

Hodge and Hibberd are both counted as general defenders, it is done by champion data adding up the types of possessions they get and the majority of their match ups. Sam Fisher and Adam Goodes have changed classifications from year to year for example.

See the above.

I think to make things clearer we will just label the position Key Forwards / Defenders and General Forwards / Defenders.

So if you're going by champion data.
The positions will be the same as supercoach/afl fantasy.

We can still have eligible mids, such as hodge, swan, dustin martin on flanks.. but must feild 2 key backs and 2 key fwds at a minimum.

Am i on the right track now?

Champion Data do the positions for SC/DT and also the prospectus.

The general positions will be the same as SC/DT (Def, Mid, Fwd, Ruck) but the distinction between KPD/KPF and GD/GF will be determined by their classification in the prospectus.

We need a rule for when injuries make us unable to field a position. Say I run out of KPFs - can I put a general forward (or a mid?) in their place? Should there be a penalty, say you only receive 75% of their score?

My suggestion would be that if you can't fill a spot due to injuries, you can fill it from the same general group (eg KPF can only be replaced with General Forwards, KPD can only be replaced with General Defenders and vice versa) and that you receive 75% of that fill-in player's score. For rucks, I'd suggest they can only be replaced with KPFs or KPDs. You would only be able to access this fill in when you have no available players in that category.

My preference would be that you would score 0 if you don't have a player with a valid position. If they are a late withdrawl I would be happy to look at replacing them with other positions.

There will be a lot of free agents so I would rather have a free-agents waiver.

So there will be a preference order (start off as reverse draft order). If you want to sign a free agent you have to bid for him and delist a player. If a player higher in the order chooses to match your bid they get the player. If nobody higher than you matches the bid you keep the player. Whoever gets the player then gets put to the back of the waiver wire list.

Again it comes down to making players that typically wouldn't be fantasy relevant a part of the game. If you look back at the 2009 / 2010 saints team you would never want a Zac Dawson in a super coach game but in a game like this there is value in having those "role players".

If we had the rule as you suggested it would lead to key position players being undervalued and mids who can play dual position being further overrated. In my example below, you would rather a Mid/Def play in key back for 75% than a James Frawley type.

Again with all these issues I am throwing up my opinion, I would love to discuss and debate these rules and definitions so the more people who throw suggestions in the better. Keep it up!!

Hey guys,

I'm wanting to start doing more of the prep work so the draft will be able to run smoothly.

If possible could we all please try and check in before Monday so that we know everyone is in and keen still.

Also if we could start putting forward our team names I will also work on putting together a fixture.

I will be coaching the Gippsland Gunslingers in 2016.
