How about using a pre-season competition as a bit of a circuit breaker. Gives us more matches and doesn't challenge the integrity of the home and away and finals series. We could give a prize such as #1 pick in the PSD or the #1 position on the waiver wire as a prize that keeps it interesting but doesn't throw out the balance of the game. As seasons go by it would also give us the opportunity to experiment with rule changes (if we wanted to start awarding 150% for a vice captain for example).

This way we would have a 4 week pre-season competition.
11 H&A rounds
3 Finals Rounds

This would give us the 3 bye rounds vacant as well as room for two byes throughout the year (which could be a good time to open up mid-season transfer windows).
I think an 11 week H&A is too short and if we were to put up all the options we've gone through it would be bottom of my list.

I think the options we have for the main comp so far are as follows:

1. Triple threat approach +11 normal fixtures over 20 H&A weeks (includes byes)
2. Double headers for 2 weeks within 20 H&A weeks (everyone plays everyone twice) (includes byes)
3. (potential) Triple threat approach + 11 normal fixtures over 17 H&A weeks (haven't done the maths on the triple threats) (no byes)
4. Strength of schedule approach (random 1st season) over 20 H&A weeks (includes byes)
5. Strength of schedule approach (random 1st season) over 17 H&A weeks (no byes)
6. 11 week H&A season
7. Triple threat with bye weeks counting as one week in total (18 week H&A)
8. Strength of schedule with bye weeks counting as one week in total (18 week H&A)

If we have no others beyond the above should we just get everyone to vote?

It feels like option 7 is the best compromise as long as the triple threats work out maths wise........every week counts, but the byes don't cause a massive upheaval.....

There was also talk of a points comp across 22 weeks in addition to the main comp which I like (stating the obvious as it was my suggestion!!!)

I feel like what I posted above (option 5 is best), however I just thought I'd add one more option to your elaborate list! Aha

Option 9. Rounds 1-12: H2H.
Rounds 13, 14, 15 byes.
Rounds 16-20: 5 double headers. (Play 10 games, 2 games per week)
Rounds 21-23: finals

Everyone plays everyone twice. We avoid bye rounds. We avoid triple treats (which could be alright, I just don't feel like they work in a head to head based competition).

Avoid rd 23
Yeah either
2 week finals on the options above so week 23 avoided or

3 week finals including week 23

I'm genuinely ok with all bar 6 I just want to know what it is because (rightly or wrongly) it's impacting who I pick.....

Not Fussed for the first question, No for the second question.

I think option 5 of MT's is the best.

You know what, we might as well start a vote on the general direction we want to see the fixture headed and then we can work from here. Could everybody please vote in relation to the following:

Every team should play each other the same amount of times?

Yes ------ Not Fussed ---------- No

Games Should Be Played Each Round (Including Byes)
Yes -------- Not Fussed ---------- No
I missed this earlier. Was wondering what kinglonie was talking about with the questions....

No and yes - just maximum games for me really - in an ideal world we'd play all the teams the same amount but not if it means only 11 games.

Appreciate people's concerns on the byes though and thought the suggestion where you play a single lineup against a single team across all 3 of the bye weeks for one weeks result was an excellent one.

Also liked the idea of ending the season with 5 double headers as people could catch up more easily after a bad start - keeps people interested for longer. That was without byes and would mean everyone played twice.

You could combine both I guess - single bye weeks game and double headers at the end of the season so everyone plays the same - twice each.

Found a spreadsheet version of the Supercoach positions (not incl. Key v General) but useful for DPP

Where are people getting the non-sub rule average info???

I just use aflplayerratings website to search for the player, and it'll tell you what games the player was sub or subbed. Then I go to footy wire and add up the players points (not including the sub affected games) and divide the total by the amount of non sub affected games for the new average.

hadn't thought of using the ratings website, thanks it will help

Was hoping that a certain player would make it to my last pick and to my surprise, he actually did.

But then seeing Daniel Menzel go scared me into making sure I didn't let Troy slide who I was planning on taking the pick after.

Just couldn't let Menzel slide looking at Adelaide's recent success with recycled forwards, and more important with recycled Carlton players.

Fingers crossed the player I have been waiting on can last a few more picks...

Where on the afl ratings does it show you the subs?

Will be interesting to see if your pick makes it...

I have at least 21 I would be comfortable to put in a starting lineup. Average 2015 SC score is 90.23 at the moment! We are aiming for a top 4 finish! No list rebuild strategy here. It's either a premiership tilt or next 5 years will require the Pelican to clean up the list!
