AFL commentators are thinking people watch the telecast because of them. The whole Rex Hunt and Dennis Commetti from the mid 90s, has developed a breed of commentators that think they need to entertain in todays broadcast. It's not radio, we can see what 90% of the crap they say.

Soccer commentators rarely intrude on the visual of the action.
 
Tyler is usually great but it's like he's taking sleeping pills every game this WC. He murmurs an "oh!" about three seconds after the ball's hit the back of the net. I want Drury to commentate the final, now he adds excitement

Am I the only one who is glad Murray is gone now?

His voice is just so dull and boring. He'll use the answer from one analyst and then just rephrase it to create a question for the other analyst. It literally brings the discussion to a screeching halt. And then he'll chime in with something that happened 36 years earlier that has about a 2% relevance to what is being spoken about. He had a 10 minute coughing fit when Gab Marcotti was on the show and the idiot wouldn't walk away from the set so you just keep hearing him in the background while Foz and Marcotti were having a good discussion.

he's is finished as a broadcaster. stumbles through sentences, forgets what he's saying, has to look down at the sheet on his lap.
he has been brilliant but the time is right to retire.

he owes the sport nothing, and has done so much for the game. he was the shining beacon for the game when it was considered a minnow game. pushed on with johnny warren. and on and on. He is afforded more slack than others as he is like lou richards is to afl. kept on tv due to his experience

He's been phoning it in for a while now. All his peers are gone from old days of On The Ball.
 
The game commentary of soccer is infinitely superior to the afl - proving that less is more when you have pictures.
On the other hand, the half time and mid game expert reviews in soccer are pathetic. Aside from Craig Foster not one of them seem capable of saying anything coherent. All we here are cliches like technical ability, width and the most superficial comments of who do you think will win.

The pre and post match teams have been embarrassing. The host seems to know more then either Kalac or Culina. Ned is passable and tries hard needs help
