You would think that one of the commercial networks will go for the next World Cup, the TV ratings have been pretty impressive (even when Australia hasn't been playing) despite the ratings-unfriendly telecast times.

Then it would probably be delayed by three hours over here just so they could show their terrible programs at the best time.

I'll stick to listening to Foster's tirades thanks!

Probably pissed too many people off to get a job anywhere else. SBS is where he will stay.

And his commentary is appalling. He doesn't realise he is supposed to comment on the play that has unfolded, not spend the whole game preaching his "Sexy football" and triangles.
My god, I am agreeing with an Adelaide supporter!
Seriously though, Foster and others like him don't understand that the "sexy" football of the past, was negated by the pragmatic coaches who formulated strategies to combat and triumph over this "sexed" up football. As a consequence of this approach, players are being produced all over the world with a distinct lack of flair and adventurism - John Howard clones in other words.
The utopian concept espoused by Craig "I like playing with myself" Foster, is absolutely not achievable for no less a reason that many players do not posses the ability to execute a "total football" style of team play - they are not "well rounded" players and have no idea about how to play other positions.
Can you imagine Craig Moore finding himself in an attacking midfielders position, Kaka and Messi at center half, David Villa at right back, etc. etc.
Foster cannot even "analyse" a game. He has fixed ideas about how teams are going to play and then sticks to his story regardless of what is happening.
He thinks that players are computer generated images that can change position on the pitch instantaneously and that they all have the skills of Zico, Socrates, Maradona etc. etc.
Foster's a **** ing idiot !

i haven't read the whole thread, just the last couple of pages.

the highlights of sbs coverage?

well, it wasn't the world cup show. fozzie's ranting is just intollerable. i get that he's passionate about the game - i like that. but an analyst doesn't sit there for 2 hours bagging a world cup finalist.

unfortunately, total football is dead. if 1974 holland turned up now, a half decent opponent would put 6 goals through them.

fozzie would never get a job with fox sports. the centrepieces of their coverage is the A league (where fozzie spends far too much time crapping on about how we should be doing it) and the EPL (which fozzie does nothing but bag).

how a guy like him who was a bit-part socceroo, and never amounted to anything at club level, can claim such respect is beyond me.

robbie slater is a w***er of the highest order, but at least he can speak as someone who achieved something in the game.

the highlight of the coverage was not basheer and muscat in the australian games. as a victory supporter i love kevin, but i can only tolerate so much "OARGH!" every time the ball is in the box. basheer is a monotone hack who only got the job when every one else left. sbs just haven't bothered to find any better since they lost paul williams (rip) and simon hill. shit, stutters orsatti was/is better than basheer.

they would've been far better having dempsey in south africa with tomalaris or even mariana or franny hosting the coverage from sydney.

the highlight wasn't the panel in australia. palumbo has been terrible for years, zdrilic is painful to listen to, and kalac and okon had nothing to say. the awesomeness of zelic - the passion, the knowledge, the overstated gesticulation weren't enough to make this bearable.

no, the highlight of the coverage was cup fever. i dislike ed kavalee passionately, but santo and ed were fantastic. the "interviews" with the likes of "carlesth puyol" and "kim jong il" were fantastic.

i really hope they make a return for major sporting events on sbs. i don't think they're in line for the olympics any more, but i want to see them host a weekly 20 minute segment on the world game, or maybe a nightly tour de france show.

i pvr'd quite a few of them, they're still great shows without the context of the world cup

I agree with Dempsey but for god's sake not Francis Awarpineapplehead. His knowledge is limited compared to the others, he loves saying stuff to be different and provoke (the war with Glory fans in 2003/04) among other things. I know he's on Foxsports but Paul Trimboli is one of the best colour commentators.

SBS have the rights to 2014.

And long may that reign. Stick your Fox Sports and their Sydneycentric bias!
