I think it's been pretty good overall. Les is Les, he can keep going until he reaches Domenech levels of NFI as far as I'm concerned. Foz, you either love him for his passion, or hate him for his muppetry. Or both. Good to see the love for Frannie Awaritefe too, he's a gun. Zelic is pretty good, Spider and Paul Dempsey are OK, the rest, meh. It could be better (god I miss Simon Hill), but tbh I'm just thankful it's on SBS.

Chapter 1: The English, and Why I Hate You
Well I once played at Portsmouth before they were good, and also before they went bust. This once great club is now on the brink of extinction, a club I hold close to my heart. You wouldn't find this happening on continental Europe.
I also played at a big London club, Crystal Palace and can vouge that the English media is responsible solely for the national teams failings. You wouldn't find this happening on continental Europe.
 
Just quietly, and I know it's been said many times, but my god Basheer is a woeful commentator.

I mean these goals are going to some of the most replayed moments for the next four years here in Australia, and I don't think he quite realises just how much commentary can add to a game of football. Often the audio becomes just as famous as the footage itself.

Give me the ****ing job, I'll show the bald twat how to inject some passion into the game.

Would be awesome to watch Holmans goal in a few years with some Audio..... take that you Serbian pr*&%s
 
^ Exactly. In my opinion Simon Hill's call in the 2005 Qualifying game against Uruguay and during the 2006 World Cup, especially in the Japan game, perfectly captures the excitement and passion that the players and fans all had at that moment. When watching the goals now I still get goosebumps.
 
Does anyone have any video highlights of the goals v Serbia with actually good commentry....in english.

to live on the outer, i think sbs's coverage is limited in terms of the commercial sponsors it has compared to channel 10, 9 and 7

so we dont get a variety of commercials that we see on 7,9 and 10 :P

ps commercials suck i avoid them like the plague

I think we should all give thanks that the world cup isn't being covered by one of the commercial stations, they would have destroyed it.

The only way the coverage would have been better is if it was on Pay TV.

Agreed when Cahill scored his goal he said Chipperfield and completely ruined it IMO

Martin Tyler is a pretentious **** ing git.
He just waffles on about shit that appears in gossip columns. I want a commentator that commentates about what is going on in the game that I am watching.
Tyler, Foster and Zelic are cretinous sphincters.

Helm was watching a different game last night - there were at least 10 occasions he said something which was completely contradicted by the vision or facts.

When the dude got subbed - Bradley (manager) was hugging him and giving him some encouraging words etc. and he somehow (even though he was already out in the middle of the field) thought it was the dude who had come on and he said Bradley was telling (I forget who) to go out there and score a goal for me! No. When you're subbed you can't come back on John.

Mate Helm is a complete ****head and disgrace to the art of commentary, and I've been saying it for a decade. It warms my heart to see so many people can see his ********edness this world cup.

Rambles on about shit that isn't even happening, can't pronounce players names right, sounds like a ****ing grandpa who has no idea about the sport attempting to merely talk let alone call a game, states facts that are so inconceivably wrong, has absolutely **** all idea about tactics being employed.

I swear I die a little inside, every single time I hear this man's voice.

I don't mind if commentators or analysts are arrogant or pretentious, so long as they have a ****ing clue about what they're saying.

This guy is just an old **** that sounds like an 80 year old pom that's never played the game, has casually watched it now and then, and is talking about the game with his fellow retirees in the nursing home.

Get ****ed helm
 
My respect for Fozzy is growing after he said "FIFA dont really need goal line technology, they just need linesman who can see"
 
Quite frankly it surprises me, but after two weeks of the SBS world cup coverage, the late and disrupted hours, I am finding myself daydreaming and yearning for the fox team of Hill, Harb, Bosnich, slater and trimmers.

Something about Les Murray puts me to sleep, or is he asleep?

Craig Foster is very passionate but Les is entirely underwhelmed and more interested in reading his notes. This is how it goes: Les asks Craig some inane question about a team or game. As Craig begins to answer Les becomes fascinated by his notes and seems to nod off. Craig feeling unappreciated starts making more and more strident and passionate comments to keep Les awake. "sack Pim!" Les absent mindedly raises his eyes and sends us to an ad

Don't they have a teleprompter for Les.
