lol at everything going wrong for the fozzmeister, hates this dutch team
Murray has not gloated too much about his dutch tip earlier on. After all the dribble, foz has not been as accurate (tipster/analyser) as Les.

SBS coverage of games has been top notch. Wish they covered NFL/AFL on SBS 2/3

Wish they could bring back Simon Hill - will never, ever forget his commentary of the last 10 minutes of the Aus vs Japan game back in 06 - it still gives me shivers listening to it (I watched the game at fed square).

Craig "Technically brilliant, tactically superior" Foster...nothing makes me laugh more than watching this man talk "footbor". If you watch the movements of his face as he speaks about the "technical brilliance" of the spanish or the look on his face when dissecting the "tactical blunders" of Dunga with Brazil...priceless. If anybody saw him intently listening to Taliadoris the other night and the facial expressions he was pulling off you would've been in raptures.

Anybody would think this guy was the best player we've ever produced the way he talks about football...knows everything...just ask him!

I saw this an dthought the exact same thing. He was twitching like someone was rubbing his knob.

Paul Dempsey this morning..

"If Spain win they'll be the first country to do the World/Euro CUp double since Germany in 1974".

Erm....

I've only been watching the SBS coverage in the past week after coming home but Ned Zelic I think has been a decent pundit. The rest can go gtf.

I think what Paul Dempsey meant to say was that Spain will be the only European Champions other than Germany in 1974 to go on and win the World Cup whilst holding the European title.

France won their Euro after they won the World Cup.

Without doubt the best commentator for me in this World Cup is Martin Tyler. Why give the commentator's job in the final to David Basheer & Kevin Muscat to call the final when you've got the best commentator in Tyler who can do a brilliant job in calling the final. It would be a bit like Seven overlooking Dennis Cometti to call the 2010 AFL Grand Final. His comment when France's Thierry Henry went down in the early minutes of the 2006 WC Final was a perfect example of why he's the best in the business..'the spirit is obviously very willing, but what about the flesh?'

its going to be martin tyler and andy gray isnt it?

best commentary duet in the world

unless theres a better one on skysports

If we do get Martin Tyler it will be with the Scottish guy or Efan Ekoku who are both working with him at ESPN.

More likely we will get John Helm or the other guy who did the semi final.

Firstly, I'd like to make it aware that i'm a massive fan of the World Game being on SBS rather than some blow in network taking over for a big event.

BUT.

The quality of their presenters/commentators is pretty piss weak.

Paul Dempsey has no idea what he's on about and has a **** off annoying voice. constantly making errors, stuttering etc.

Most of their 'analysts' don't even watch football these days and seem to have opinions/facts based on wikipedia profiles and youtube video's.

They offer absolutely no insight whatsoever. Zdrila is about the only one who is any good. Zeljko is a nut job (an entertaining one at that) Zelic has decent ideas but acts as if he was as good as Maradona in his day and basically its his way or the highway. They're there as if they are just to collect a pay cheque and couldn't give a rats toss bag about doing proper research/analysing the games.

Okon is a spud, Basheer has become the Hutchy of SBS (just bobs up everywhere and anywhere and is very annoying, but he actually makes Hutchy seem likeable, maybe because the Hutchwa doesn't have a head that looks like a member) the other guy on the panel now (brazil vs ivory coast) with Dempsey and Okon sounds like the biggest **** ever, no backbone and his feminine voice just kills me inside.

Helm the deep breather is a nightmare to listen too and Basheer and Muscy's bias commentary is horrendous.

**** Tony "The talking corpse" Palumbo off.. can't understand a word he is saying and in all honesty he should be worrying about staying alive, not whether Italy can defend their title.

Les Murray, i'm grateful for everything you've done for the game in Australia but FFS it's time to move on. His opinions are very old school and he has to be the most unprofessional/unaware presenter in the history of television. He is on a direct feed to his field reporters all the time but it's as if they're on a 10 second delay by the way he waits to ask another question

I think that's the best way to put it for me, their coverage is frustratingly unprofessional and sloppy..

They desperately need some new blood. All their "has beens" and blow in presenters have shat me to no end during the WC. There is absolutely no life in their broadcasts. I'm on a local footy show on Channel 31 and even our broadcast is more professional than the tripe they put up.

I know they can't compete with the big networks but **** they could do with Simon Hill, Andrew Orsatti & more Martin Tyler

/rant.

I've missed most of the sbs commentry as I just got back from South Africa a week ago. If you think SBS are bad you should see what the host nation dished up. It was the most unprofessional, insipid football commentry and analysis you could ever hope to watch.

After all teams in cameroons group had played twice and cameroon was eliminated it took them about 30 mins to figure this out, all they kept on saying is that cameroon would find it tough to get past the group stage from here even though they were on 0 points, holland was on 6 and japan and denmark were on 3 points and had to play each other. It was funny stuff to watch.

anyone remember the sharing of the coverage for channel 9 and sbs when the world cup was on at a decent timeslot (korea and japan)?

i think brazil is actually a reasonable timeslot to watch the football living in australia: if they schedule the games to be at night. the twilight/ night games would start at 6am or 8am in the morning

although one senses Europe will have the final say as to when they should hold the games across the Atlantic. the chances are the final and important games will be on during the afternoon

from first hand experience living in london, i found it impossible to watch 1. australian sports scheduled during the afternoon (eg the ashes) and 2. sports from america scheduled at night (eg the nba)

SBS's coverage was good, as always. That said, i don't much like Foster.

He is passionate about AUS football, which is good. But this often tips over into fruity patriotism. He is also unrealistic. OK, great, lets play a more attacking style of football. Like Spain, and Brazil, which he seems to think would be a truly "Australian style" (go figure). But we are not Spain or Brazil, and certain limitations need to be taken into account. He also has a tendency to waffle. Sure, he provides some great analysis, but it often comes over as bloody diatribe. SBS need to reel him in a bit.

Alarm bells rang for me with Foster when he was christined 'Chief Football Analyst', it's such a stupid label. Reminds of something that the North Korean leader would call himself. His enthusiasum at the start was great (his reaction to the 3-1 win at Upton Park was fantastic) but now he just contradicts himself and has completely unrealistic views of the national side sometimes. This is all inbetween his lame attempts to get publicity for himself. I just wish he'd chase the money to fox, epsn or the commercial networks.

Probably pissed too many people off to get a job anywhere else. SBS is where he will stay.

And his commentary is appalling. He doesn't realise he is supposed to comment on the play that has unfolded, not spend the whole game preaching his "Sexy football" and triangles.

This drove me nuts during the final. FFS, does he not realise the coverage is being watched by both Spanish and Dutch Australians, and people supporting either nation generally. Be a little bi-partisan rather than barrack. On top of that, i didn't think the Dutch were nearly as negative as he made out.

Overall I thought their coverage was excellent.

I must be the only person who likes Foster, Zellic, Dempsey and co. For a low budget TV station they were a good team.

SBS also have interesting lead-in programs. I never thought I would see softcore pr0n shown before a big world cup match, but I guess theres a first time for everything.

You haven't watched Mel and Bozza on Fox Sports for the EPL then, obviously! :D

that isn't softcore.

You would think that one of the commercial networks will go for the next World Cup, the TV ratings have been pretty impressive (even when Australia hasn't been playing) despite the ratings-unfriendly telecast times.
