Haha I know, I'm just experimenting ;p

You not counting Greene as a keeper? Cos I've got 14 + Liber + Wells + Mills

Greene is speculative at best
Libba wells and mills all stepping stones

Maybe Greene's worse than I'm imagining.
Greene's first four seasons:
94.5, 19 games.
73.1, 19 games.
102.9, 15 games.
82.5, 22 games.

Hmmm, seems Toby's a bit of a yo-yo, so I'd expect 95-105 again haha (with Treloar gone there's probably a few extra midfield minutes he can have)

No Goldy but you have the next best shouldn't be a problem, Currie whats his JS like with Nicholls in the team?.
I don't like Tippett but that is just me, Wells i think he is a box chocolates although i have him.
Other than that i like it alot, that much i might copy and paste it :p

BTW at least you have consideration for the vision impaired. :thumbsu:

He seemed to play well with Nicholls in the team on the weekend, but if he's not named round 1, I might drop Fyfe, get goldy in and grab another midfield rookie.
Feel free to copy it, it'll change plenty before lockout ;)
Haha, I'm on my phone, are the pics huge?

No clue what i'm doing.. will most likely trade Hartlett out

Decent team mate
Trade Hartlett out for Rocky, Shiel, Parker or Wines (I think every team needs Rocky)
Downgrade a few of your expensive rookies to cheapies, and use the money to bring in a premium keeper in def or fwd

Hartlett will have his career best year so trust your guts. I'd personally go Rockliff and if you want a point of difference go with Wines, Parker or Shiel.
Downgrade Crouch, Parish/Mills to players like Matheison/Gore/Gresham/Cunningham.

Def- downgrade Francis to Broad and try to upgrade Howe (dont think hes best 22).

Ruck- Like Goldy and nic nat but try get bench cover using Grimley or Currie.

Like the forwards but try to get Martin in somehow.

Attempt #4?

Backs: H Shaw, K Kolodjashni, G Birchal, B Smith, J Wagner, M Brown (Ess) (M Hibberd, N Broad)

Mids: P Dangerfield, G Ablett, T Rockliff, L Parker, T Liberatore, B Crouch, C Mills, J Gresham ( D Gore, J Polkinghorne, R Mathieson)

Rucks: T Goldstein, S Martin (D Currie)

Forwards: B Deledio, L Dahlhaus, M Barlow, N Cockatoo, S Kerridge, C Pertracca (N Kommer, S Grimley)

Not sure whether i should downgrade Birchal to Howe, Crouch down to a Parish/Hopper and upgrade Cockatoo. Other then that I am pretty happy with how it all looks!

Does anyone actually think Christian Petracca will play let alone be best 22 at Melbourne?

I do. Top draft pick and its Melbourne afterall...
All I'm thinking is there are 6 or so guys competing for that half forward/rotating midfield roll

  • Angus Brayshaw
  • Ben Kennedy
  • Aaron vandenBerg
  • Jay Kennedy-Harris
  • James Harmes
and then Petracca himself. Melbourne's midfield is pretty set with Nathan Jones, Bernie Vince, Jack Viney and Dom Tyson all looking likely to take a bulk of the load. I'm just questioning now whether we're over estimating what Petracca will do this season with games played and his supercoach scoring. All of those guys above have AFL experience over Petracca himself. Interesting to see what Melbourne people think whether he starts Round 1 or not. Or if they think he will play 10+ games in a row

Cheers mate, yeah Hartlett is a risk i'm willing to take, he just looked amazing in the midfield in those last 5 or so games last year.

Will take your suggestions on defence, this is where i have struggled the most.

I think picking anyone from our midfield is a risk, we're just so even all across the board. Gray x2, Boak, Wines, Hartlett, Wingard, Polec, Ebert, Westhoff and even Pittard all capable of averaging near or over 100. Robbie, Wingard and Wines probably the best chance to average the highest out of the lot and in that order for me, all 3 over 105.

With defense you can look to get creative with cheaper players. But you can never go wrong with proven scorers. I'm personally sitting with Boyd, Laird, KK and Bartel at the moment. I've been flirting with the idea of someone like Taylor Duryea or Zac Williams but nothing goes past a proven ability to score and score consistently. I don't think Heath Shaw will maintain that 112 average this season but I have no doubt, baring injury of course, that he will be in the top 6 defenders come the end of the season. Boyd the same, McVeigh most likely as well. Rance and McDonald are both key position so they're a little less likely, both most likely leading AA contenders this season for the KPD spots so they're reletively safe. Houli is a decent pick but he dropped some low scores last season and who knows what Enright will put up. There is nothing wrong with spending a little extra down back if it means you don't have to keep trading players out throughout the season. Maybe look at someone like Kade Simpson as well, has very good durability, proven 90+ scorer for a long time. I wouldn't be selecting anyone in your starting backline, unless rookies, that you don't think is 90+ come season's end. Hope that helped.

Interested that the general consensus seems to be to go cheaper rookies to try and squeeze an extra premium into your starting team. I've always thought nailing those initial rookies is just about the most important part of the season, and if Mills/Parish/Hopper look like they might be far and away the best scorers than I will pick them with no hesitation

Yep. People get preoccupied with making money in this game. Too many take their eye off the fact that you win the 50k by scoring the most points, not making the most money

Well what's the risk? You basically just said all are capable of averaging over 100?

I'd personally have proven season performers like Robbie Gray, Boak and Wines ahead of Hamish and the others but for difference sake it's not a bad pick to have Hamish.
