Time to get very busy! Usually by now I've done at least 6-8 weeks research and am up to date with all the news. This year I've done nothing and know nothing so it could be a tough season.

Based on only gut feeling this is my first draft of a team. I haven't even looked at the bye rounds yet and the rookies are mostly place holders, but overall I like the look of it. Lots of mobility between lines and at least 12 keepers, possibly as many as 18 if players come on as expected. Having said that, it will probably look nothing like my final team.

Main concern is having all 3 of Libba, O'Meara and Crouch. One may well be downgraded to a rookie and another upgraded to a true prem.

I wouldn't count on Leuenberger TBH. Too injury riddled unfortunately.

Thought I read today that O'Meara probably won't get up for rd 1.

Yes Leuenberger may be one of the first changes. I've regretted having him in the past and avoided him like the plague last season. If he stays fit and is the undisputed No1 ruck he's great value, but his past makes that doubtful. Didn't know about O'Meara but that makes the possibility of improving balance by turning O'Meara and Crouch into a premium and a rookie even more appealing.

O'meara, Hogan and Leuenberger is where the work needs to be done. To give you an idea, compared to most teams appearing on here recently, you'd be going in light in the middle. Turning O'Meara into one of the genuine cream would be what I would be looking to do.
Personally I don't like the Howe selection (job security), but there are plenty of folks with him in at the moment. Pretty solid

Did anyone have a look at Sam Edmunds team in the Hun? Was there anything of interest?
His team was:

Shaw, KK, Bartel, Aish, Brown, Hibberd (Bonner, Broad)
Fyfe, Pendlebury, Ablett, Rockliff, Libba, Toumpas, Parish, Hopper (Jansen, Cuningham, Keays)
Goldstein, Lobbe (Cox)
Martin, Dahlhaus, Barlow, Franklin, Kerridge, Petracca (Grimley, Phillips)

I thought the structure was about right, except for the Aish pick. That slot needs to be upgraded to someone who will be a keeper from the start.
Half his team is the same as mine (15/30).

I reckon his effort is better than what the other muppets at the Hun have put forward.

Don't mind the Toumpas pick either, haven't seen that around here much at all

Thoughts? About 20k left. Bartel and Lonergan are the two I'm not sold on. I actually prefer KK to Bartel but for some reason he isn't in this screenshot. :$

Jeez, I reckon there will be only 3 or 4 different players in each team in the top 1000 at this rate. THanks for going to the effort.
Don't like the Aish pick either. Not really proven IMO. Rates KK is interesting.
Lobbe I will not touch. Good forward line.

I think your decision about the 3 midfielders is an easy one now. Crouch has not been picked again for NAB 2 which must be a worry. O'Meara is unlikely to play Round 1 and looks like coming back through the NEAFL. If you keep Liberatore, upgrade one and downgrade the other, your team will be much better balanced.

Is anyone considering not starting with KK? He didn't score 100 till Round 8 last season. Started the year with 47, 80 and 52. Also had another score under 50 and a 66 to go with it too. My fear is with a full team he doesn't get as much of the ball. Thoughts?

Me cos I don't currently have him

Last year was his 2nd year in the comp
I expect him to improve significantly this year with his scoring

Hahahaha such a good call! I haven't changed my team for a while now as well, must be happy haha

I like your team overall, not having Rocky and Libba is criminal though, but I guess you want to have a bit of a different midfield which is understandable.
Houli is interesting, nice POD with decent history, I just don't like him personally, I prefer Rance for a bit more, or Laird and Simpson for a bit less

Just be wary with Bartel, Scott has made no secret that he won't be playing all games this season will likely play 15-17 games in total all year.

Have him on the watch list will see how he going up to round 3. Just think that Malceski might return to form and take a lot of the ball KK might have gathered

Little skittish about have the JOM, Crouch and Libba trio but what is life without some risk:

Backs :

J McVeigh, K Simpson, E Yeo, D Rich, M Dea, C Byrne, M Hibberd, R Bonner

Mids:

P Dangerfield, S Pendlebury, G Ablett, T Rockliff, T Liberatore, J O'Meara, B Crouch, C Mills, C Petraca, J Polkinghorne, S Menegola

Rucks:

S Jacobs, M Lobbe, M Cox

Forwards:

L Dalhaus, C Wingard, M Barlow, J Anderson, E Hipwood, S Kerridge, N Kommer, M Brown

Wouldn't touch Macmillan myself, especially since you already have Boyd & Bartel in that backline who could get a rest. Macmillans been super injury prone the last couple of seasons. All 3 of those guys have the potential to be good picks but I think you're setting yourself up for carnage back there with all 3 of them.

Keep in mind that Sam Jacobs has a horror fixture to start the year, if he's giving you 80's and Mumford goes down you're in strife.

Here's my team as it stands after a lot of experimenting.

DEF: H.Shaw, K.Simpson, J.Bartel, N.Malceski, N.Broad, M.Hartley (R.Bonner, C.Byrne)

MID: S. Pendlebury, G.Ablett, T.Rockliff, L.Parker, O.Wines, C.Mills, J.Hopper, R.Mathieson (D.Gore, J.Polkinghorne, D.MacPherson)

RUC: S.Martin, B.McEvoy (M.Cox)

FWD: D.Martin, C.Wingard, M.Barlow, D.Smith, S.Kerridge, C.Petracca (L.Sumner, M.Brown)

Solid team. I'd be mindful of a few players under injury clouds namely selwood and Bennell and would definitely try to fit dusty into the forwards. Not sold on Jaensch as he is returning from a significant injury so imo there are better options at around the 400k mark.
