I was at a Swans function last night and but it on Goodes about whether or not he'll be playing fwd or up the grd. He was a bit coy but he did say he would be moving about a bit. I also asked if ROK was going to be tagging/negatig this year after the shut down he did on Hodgey in R22. A resounding No. "Only was doing that because he was injured" was the reply....

Whichever way you go with the forwards I think you will have one week that gets a little tight because of the bye, and you just have to hope a couple of your rookies from the bench are playing/MPP are available to sub in.

Need help thoughts/changes

N. Riewoldt, L. Franklin, J. Brown, C. Rioli, S. Higgins, C. Yarran, A. Krakouer

Subs: C. Richardson, Z. Skinners, J. Darling

I like your starting seven...but from what I've read (mainly on the Bulldogs board), Skinner isn't in early calculations. I'd go with Matera and look at Skinner as a downgrade later. Higgins is a question mark - he's burnt a lot of people in the past. Potential keeper for that price though...decisions like that can make (or break) your season. Another risk with Yarran, but I like what I've seen/read/heard for him this season, sweeping across half back.

Hmmm, very interesting to see how their seasons turn out now.

What are people's thoughts on Jack Darling? Is he going to get consistent games?

i have gone for a fairly beefy forward line as i figure cheap midfielders are likely to score more then cheaper forwards

FWDS: N Riewoldt, L Franklin, A Didak, B Harvey, M Pavlich, A Goodes, C Richardson
Subs: D Prestia, B Matera, J Darling

Also have Krakouer and I Smith (sub) in the midfield that can rotate through the forward

I figure ill trade for Chapman later in the season depending on his form (with no preseason)

wondering if i should replace one of them with Rioli as Boomer and Goodes aren't getting any younger

Hey gents I have enjoyed reading this thread but I'm struggling on picking my last rookie position, I have so far;
Franklin, riewoldt, roili, goodes, johnson, yarran, gamble, Richardson, darling

Any help would be appreciated

Matera or (if you can afford him) Prestia. Both will get games, Prestia is a multi-position and a ball magnet and Matera was very good in the pre-season. Plus, since you don't have another Gold Coast player, it's a savvy move for team balance to have a bargain-basement player on the bench who will play most games, in all likelihood.

If you go for rioli you will have 2 premiums from the same team (so when they have the bye you lose say 200-250 points or there abouts as opposed to say 150-200) so i figure a premium and rookie from the same team is abit more acceptable in sense of scoring wise, if that makes sense.

So far from reading other teams and the team boards alot of people have gone for matera (GC) and smith (HAW) and also McKernan

Just wondering what people thought about Steve Johnson does he have the potential this year to avg over 100 or would I be better off with say brad green or Ryan o'keffe

Far better off to stay with a Green or O'keefe (who was rumoured to be injured for the best part of last year)

SJ has no excuses for his pathetic scores. Most of the time his poor scores come from a ridiculous amount of clangers.

Cheers I've gone with prestia and swapped Stevie J for green

Bigger risk, bigger reward. I see SJ as one of those players who can have a bad week & score poorly but he can also smash it and produce some monster scores, especially now he might be getting some time in the midfield.

Thoughts on Gamble, regular in saints 22? I reckon he could average between 65-75. Thoughts?

And also, who would you go with, him or prestia.

Cheers

I'm having trouble with the forward line - it's causing me more trouble than the rest of the team.

Generally I like to start with Guns and rookies, and stay away from the mid-priced players, but there just don't seem to be many gun forward options that are safe locks this year.

At the top end I have Roo, and at the rookie-price end I have Krakouer - but the other five slots are tough. Guns I would have happily taken in previous seasons (Pav, Brown, ROK, Harvey) are all getting a bit old or have injury concerns. I'd love to take Franklin, but I don't think he can get through a season without missing a few games suspended.

So I've ended up with much more of mid-priced line-up - my current 7 are: Roo, Rioli, ROK, Higgins, Yarran, Knights, A Krakouer. To be honest, I'm not 100% sold on Rioli, ROK, Higgins, Yarran or Knights, but I'm just not seeing any better options.

One complication this season is the byes - to minimise risks my strategy is to not have 2 players from the same team in my starting line up for any one position (otherwise I'd be tempted to run Goodes & ROK, or Franklin and Rioli).

Any thoughts?

And Cooneyman - Re: gamble, I'd run him ahead of Prestia - especially if you've already got Matera. Gamble is unlikely to average below 60-65, and with a bit of luck he could exceed your 65-75 point expectations.

Mink, I'd put Franklin in. He averaged 108 last year and has the potential to increase that. You're concerned about suspensions (fair enough), but last year he played more games (17) than most others currently in your forward line (i.e. Higgins (16), Yarran (16), Riewoldt (11), Knights (5), Krakouer (0)). I don't think Franklin's a huge risk. I've also got Riewoldt and Krakouer, by the way - nothing necessarily against any of the players mentioned.
Good luck. :thumbsu:

Why? Prestia will play (a lot) in the midfield. With Gamble (and I like Gamble), to me it looks like his scores are going to be predicated by him kicking goals, something that the Saints aren't exactly renowned for in recent times. If he kicks less than two goals and he's in your starting lineup, you're in trouble. He doesn't exactly rack up the touches.

my forwards are waite lecrae n.revolt stevie j petrie a cracker dixon (might swap to matra) c richason s moptop cmkernan this is my worst line in the team l have 80k in the kitty.

sounds like you're well overstacked in other parts of your team. might have to drop a premium elsewhere in your team to upgrade some of those forwards.

You do need to keep in mind that Mckenna plans on resting all his rookies a fair bit through out the season, so there is a good chance gamble will play more games.

You don't want them in your side for the whole season. You want them in for 8-12 rounds, until they've peaked in value. They're trade bait, pure and simple.

Yeah but who knows how long it will take them to reach 8 - 12 rounds. If Mckenna is resting his players through out the season some of them are going to be rested early on. Gamble will probably play the first 8-12 games where as Prestia may miss a couple early on, which will mean you might have to hold onto him a bit longer to peak in price.

Its not a big deal, but if your tossing up between different players it's just something to think about.

Hey guys, just looking for some feedback on my forward line.

My forward line has: N. Riewoldt, M. Pavlich, C. Rioli, M. Le Cras, T. Walker, A. Krakouer, C. Richardson. Bench: D. Prestia, B. Matera and J. Darling.

Is Taylor Walker going a have a good year? Cheers.

I would be more worried about LeCras. I cant see his score increasing to much on last year whilst he is WC only go to player. Until the focus is off him entirely and he is able to play a bit more freely his scores will suffer. Its not hard to stop a team with only 1 focus point.

If Gamble goes 2-3 games without kicking a goal, he's out of the side. I don't see how he has any more job security than Prestia. I'd be very surprised if he didn't get dropped at some stage in 2011. I'm combining that with my opinion that Prestia will average more than Gamble, he's about 40k cheaper and the fact that he's a dual position (meaning if he is rested, you can have more options by shifting him to the bench in the midfield). To me, it's a no-brainer. Each to their own though.
