Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

Nah I looked at that, he's valued at 252k, and only swaps with Keppler Bradley in defence, I just dont think its worth it. I don't think Trengove can get +60 pts. He's not going to be a high scoring player......Unless he's tried and made a sucess in the forward line.

Yeah I was thinking along the lines of having him on the bench and only being used during bye's and so on, and maybe scoring a bit better than he did last year. Didn't realise he was 252, its a bit steep.

no love for Mitch clark?

in a contract year....

I think most lost faith in him after last year. Although he has proven that he can score well, but there are probably better options with less risk involved.

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

will keep an eye on Moran.

Played well last night. Only played the one game but was def Adelaides most effective ruckman. Would be a bargain if he gets on the park.

At the moment I have Sandi and Jolly with Petrie and Z.Smith on the bench. Would have Petrie as number 2, but i'm concerned about his injury issues.
For me Moran is fighting it out with Z.Smith for the number 4 spot. But Smith is in favour becuase he is walking into the 2nd ruck spot at Gold Coast, where Moran will prob be number 3 with Jacobs, Maric and even Tippet propbably in before him at this stage.

SANDI concerns me, as any player does that suffered injury the previous year. are there any lingering injury concerns there?

alternatively i will go with MUMMY in the R1 slot.

COX is playing out his last days IMHO, and is not worth a look at.

R2 is the tough one, but im thinking JOSH is a valuable bet. yes he gets injured, but he can play through injury also. and will surely inflate his very low value to somewhere around 400k before the inevitable injury. he will be starting ruck, floating forward as he was at Collingwood and will be a go to man in that floating role. very hard to look past for me, although i do have some sentimental attachment.

alternatively i will go with JOLLY if he shows the same form he had at the end of 2010 early. or NICNAT if signs of further improvement are evident early.

R3 will be an MPP, whoever is cheapest but playing.

R4 will be filled as a junk position, as a forward MPP /ruck or a defender MPP will be used for back up.

Rucks do my head in every year. This years I'm playing safe with a "set and forget" line up of:

R1 - Sandi
R2 - Jolly

Sandi is so expensive, but he consistently racks up the tonne. I can't justify leaving him out to save cash and sacrifice 10 - 20 ppg to do so. Same with Jolly. He's now the second best ruck in the comp and after a slow start last year, really came good at the end when he settled into the Pies line up.

R3 - Zac Smith

Will play 22 games if fit and could possibly be the Suns #1 ruck by the end of the season. No brainer.

R4 - ?????? NFI. I have Mitch Curnow in for now just to save money. I need that extra $20k difference between the cheapest and next cheapest to make the rest of my team work. Ideally though I'd have someone like a Derrickx or Campbell here, but I just can't squeeze them in and R4 is the most expendable position, so bargain basement it is.

Cox - when fit is still in the top 3 rucks in the comp, finding it very hard to leave him out. Suggest the new sub rule may hinder nicnats progress this year

Not sure I see your reasoning in leaving out Cox because his career is near an end and then talking about getting Jolly and/or Fraser who are both the same age. Same goes with Sandi and his injury worries and then talking about Mumford who was badly injured last year and still is recovering. I'd also say out of those 5 mentioned Fraser is the most injury prone and most likely to miss most games.

Same with Jolly. He's now the second best ruck in the comp and after a slow start last year, really came good at the end when he settled into the Pies line up.

Did you think he was the 2nd best ruckman in the comp when he was at the Swans?

Jolly has 2 supercoach byes so you will lose approx 100 for those 2 rounds unless a rookie plays. Sandi is lock as he plays in every single round - no supercoach bye - the other rucks that play every round include - Mumford, Jamar and Mitch Clarke. I would def take either Mumford or Jamar over Jolly in 2011.

If you are playing for ranking then all players have two byes.

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

How about this
Sandilands, Petrie (M.Bailey, Lycett)
yes :thumbsu: or no

Alot of injury concerns right there with Petrie and Bailey (Good upside if your willing to take the risk though). Not sure about Lycett, as there are better value options inplayers liek Z Smith and B Moran.

Jolly & Tippett for me with Petrie & Smith (GC) on the bench.
Looking for Petrie to play some early games and get some runs on the board so that I can upgrade Tippett.

Sandilands would usually be my no.1 pick in the team, but I'm a little weary of the injuries he carried last year. Problem is, if you don't pick the high priced players from the start, you may miss out. Still considering here.

Going with Sandi & Mummy..... Really don't want to be trying to upgrade rucks later.

My problem is the bench. At the moment, I'm taking the 2 GC rookies. Tippett & Smith. Tippett has the MPP with Petrie in the fwd line. I'm hearing that both Tippett and Smith are going to get games this year. Tippett is still rookie listed but am I way out here or what?

I wouldn't be picking Tippett with the expectation of him getting games. He spent three years on the Lions' rookie list without getting a game. Has a fantastic amount of potential but never managed to put it together combined with a terrible terrible run with injuries. Given he was literally the last man selected for GC's roster doesn't bode well for his position.

Starting rucks for me are Sandi and Jolly. But the dilemna for me is whether to have Smith and Petrie on the bench or Smith and Tom Derrickx, freeing up 100k to allow me to upgrade Sylvia to Dal Santo and Harris to Prestia for MPP purposes.

What do you guys think?

Petrie is certainly a better option than Derrickx (will he even get a game ahead of Brown and Graham?) and should provide a lot better coverage for your ruck byes but Dal Santo is better than Sylvia. Prestia is an unknown and you'd think Harris will be solid option.

If you're going for overall then you really need to work out what will give you more points over the whole year and how byes and subs will effect you. If you don't need MPP flexibility I'd have Harris. Petrie for 4 rounds + insurance, is that worth more than Dal Santo over Sylvia? That's your question.
