Re: 2011 rucks discussion thread

Rucks are tricky this year and how do people rate these blokes...

Warnock. Will be 1st ruck for Carlton and will play all 22 games barring injury and Kruezer will be floating around Ratten stated this year leaving 85% of the rucking duties to Warnock. Should be good value as 2nd Ruck IMO.

Tippett. Really turned it on last year late after a terrible start and likely be DP which makes him more attractive.

Petrie. Will be cheap because of injury last year but is he ready to go??

Cox. I see a decline in Coxy and i avoided him last year interested to hear others thoughts.

Jacobs. Crows pushed hard to get him and will see 22 games at No.1 Ruck.

Sandi. The best in the business i think regarding SC and a lock for me for 1st ruck.

Any posters have thoughts for the bench spots??? I am still unsure and Warnock was my bench cover last year and it worked out well but i doubt he will be sitting on benches this year!!

Re: 2011 rucks discussion thread

Will be looking at Smith on the bench, as he was often in the best for GC VFL. Will also keep an eye on Bailey's recovery.

Won't be going near Cox this year. I'm currently thinking:

Sandi, Jolly (Daw, x)

with Petrie in the forward line.

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

I'm just going to throw the big Mummy & Seaby into this discussion... Seaby was injured all last year and should be fairly cheap & ready to go. Mummy was fantastic but tired toward the end of the year, with Seaby to take some pressure off I can see an even better year from Mumford.

As for Cox, I'm with stretch, not going near him this year.

Sandi is my first lock of any player in any position in the whole league.

Jolly will be good after finally finding his mojo at the wobbles (and without ny real pressure on his spot too); But I think I'm leaning toward Mummy over him... Only just though.

Tippett will hopefully have MPP FWD/RUC again... If so then he may make it into my FWD line, but I do believe there are better options in the ruck.

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

Sandilands/Jolly seems the safest 'all premium' option, but like all the other options this year in the ruck it comes with significant question marks - how many games will Sandilands get through? Will he have less ruck time or carry the side again? Will Jolly have a form slump like the beginning of last year or carry on with his better scores from the latter half of the year and the finals series? Was his form slump due to adjusting to a new club, or were other factors involved? He burned a lot of people who picked him up from the start (nearly as bad as Tippett, he was just less common) with no scores over 100 and four under 50 in the first 12 rounds. He looked to be among the safest fantasy options at the beginning of last season, it didn't quite pan out that way.

Naitanui is again an interesting proposition, playing injured last year hurt his average, he'll be stronger for another pre-season and a bit sharper as to how the game works, he's durable, and he's one of the few around his price range (in any position, let alone the rucks) capable of seriously big scores and a breakout season.

How he and Cox are used will be interesting with the new rule changes, ditto for Seaby and Mumford. Just to confuse things further, we may well see a few players used for secondary ruck roles who are not named as rucks for fantasy purposes, reducing the pool of available players even further.

Ryder and Kreuzer are in the mix again, either could rise to the top under the new rule changes without surprising. Jamar could well be a good unique and AFAIK he doesn't have a lot of competition for his role.

I probably won't be picking him barring something which causes a radical re-think, but I'll be watching Graham with interest, he put together a few impressive scores that few ruckmen can last year until he tapered off due to injury and has plenty of scoring improvement left in him as he builds his stamina and mobility further.

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

Good post Razor, Kreuzer is an interesting one as Ratten has said that he will play more of a ruck-roving role which will surely mean that he scores higher. However i would think twice before picking him simply because he is coming back from an acl.

I actually think Freo will have a similar ruck structure to last year with Sandi doing 75-80% of the ruck work and someone else pinch hitting for the rest. This should mean Sandi's scoring should stay around the same level and with Freo's fairly well spaced byes i think he is a fair chance to play most games as the byes will give him a chance to freshen up.

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

McIntosh is injured, and wont be back for Rnd 1 by the looks of it.

Meaning Goldstein will be the no.1 ruck, with alot of minutes in the square.

Last tim he played sole ruck was against Adelaide, he had over 40 hitouts; kicks goals, probably the best disposal for a ruckman.

Definately one of the best no.2 options imo, and relatively cheap.

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

NicNat will be HUGE

Carried an injury last 6 games and will benefit from a good preseason where he is faster and bulked up a bit too. Will see a lot of him up forward too as the club are working on that role. Really, 2 pure rucks are a no go with the new bench rules, so Nicnat has to have a second string.

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

Too many variables with locking in a second ruck for the year.

My advice is to pick Sandilands and then stick a rookie in at number 2.

Gives you the flexibility to upgrade to the best ruckman next year. You dont wanna blow trades and money on sideways trading your second ruckman.

I'd stay away from Jolly, Cox, Kreuzer, Mumford etc. All those so called premium rucks have alot of question marks on them.

Just my two cents. :thumbsu:

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

sandilands-prem
frasher-2nd ruck
with smith and ? idk yet

I'm not sure it's a good idea to have two rucks from the same team this year, considering the byes. You'd have to be fairly sure of your 4th ruck or DPP forward playing when GC have their byes. I guess it could work if you have Tippett or Petrie in the forward line.

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

Goldstein. HMAC injured and Petrie will likely play FF with small bursts in the ruck.

Goldstein is a very good ruckman and would've improved this year even sharing ruck duties with HMAC, but now that H is down, expect goldy to go BANG.

I'd love to have him in my team. Just not sure how to fit him in. At the moment i've got a Sandi/Jolly combo in mind.

I'd have to sacrifice Jolly to fit Goldstein in.

Though decision...

Yeah SCF, the knee's a worry and very few come back to peak form until the 2nd year post-op (if ever), but Kreuzer is a freak and IMO, the fact they're even thinking about using him in that sort of role shows a very high degree of confidence that he's made a 100% recovery AND added extra strength/stamina/fitness. As you say, could be a points bonanza.

Excellent point on the byes. :thumbsu:

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

what does everyone think of ryder.
i had him last year and he performed well and i expect him to have a big year this year.
He will also play a lot more time down forward and its possible that he could kick a lot of goals with his size and marking ability.

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

Sandilands - No1 lock of any position.

Goldstein - with getting extra game time with Hmac down.

Max Bailey - three knee recos but has had about 1 and half years of recovery from the last one and with the Hawks weak in ruck and him being at 206cm is the second tallest player in the league ( i think ) will definately be a very cheap ruck option with plenty of potenetial. Age 24 now.

Robbie Campbell - now at the D's but was a Hawks premiership No.1 ruckman. Retired due to degenerative knee complaint but came back last year through Box Hill Hawks and did ok. With Jamar the main ruck at Melbourne may get some game time as a second ruck or even the substitute player.
