Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

This could be the position that wins and lssoes games this year....

WHY ??????
We have always picked conservetively each year when it comes to 3rd and 4th rucks, because we know(hope?) our 2 rucks will be safe all year....
With the byes coming into play this year, your rucks are gunna be depleted a guaranteed 4 times this year, and that aint counting injuries  ....

It now means that, we need to make the 3rd ruck a player as well that will get games IE: Petrie, Frazer ETC.....

I'm not sure how you thought your rucks would be safe all year in the past, I know i've shat about mine for the last years regardless who they are.

But yes Rucks are going to be another pain in the ass for us, nothing new TBH

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

I am hoping Freo manage Sandilands better this year than last, we can't do that again or we'll run our most important player into the ground again by the end of the year. I've looked at the fixture and can pick a couple of games I think we should rest him, plus a couple of others where the backup could be called on to do more work depending on how the match is travelling.

I can see Sandi having his normal huge numbers in tough matches where we need him, mixed with low scores / zeroes against weak teams who we can hopefully beat easily (e.g. Essendon, Gold Coast, Brisbane at home).

Even with this it is a good chance Sandi will be the top total scorer at season's end, but considering his price I'm not convinced Sandilands is the absolute lock everybody seems to think.

I'll probably still pick him as it isn't until later in the season where it looks like there will be opportunities to rest him. But I wouldn't be surprised if he goes through a big drop in output from Rds 12-18 which you'll have to ride out, and by season's end he has dropped in price quite a lot. May turn out that better value would have been found with say Jolly as #1 and spending the extra 175k somewhere else.

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

Am I the only one selecting Sam Jacobs?

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

Rucks are tricky this year and how do people rate these blokes...

Warnock. Will be 1st ruck for Carlton and will play all 22 games barring injury and Kruezer will be floating around Ratten stated this year leaving 85% of the rucking duties to Warnock. Should be good value as 2nd Ruck IMO.

Tippett. Really turned it on last year late after a terrible start and likely be DP which makes him more attractive.

Petrie. Will be cheap because of injury last year but is he ready to go??

Cox. I see a decline in Coxy and i avoided him last year interested to hear others thoughts.

Jacobs. Crows pushed hard to get him and will see 22 games at No.1 Ruck.

Sandi. The best in the business i think regarding SC and a lock for me for 1st ruck.

Any posters have thoughts for the bench spots??? I am still unsure and Warnock was my bench cover last year and it worked out well but i doubt he will be sitting on benches this year!!
Tippett ; is he over his knee tendonitis? Need a Crow supporter to tell us how he is training.

Cox ; By all accounts is moving and training really well.
Cox and Sandi for my firts two spots ATM

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

The Adelaide ruck situation is interesting, neither Jacobs or Maric are a viable option forward, so you would assume they pick one and rotate Tippett in to give the ruck a rest. Watch the NAB form to see who is no.1 at the Crows.

Good point.
It may well be that neither Jacobs or Maric are good SC prospects, since even if one starts as a favorite, they may easily be dropped if their form goes off a bit.

I just don't see Jacobs NOT playing 22 games next yr if fully fit ............ His stats as a 2nd ruck last year were superior to Maric's as 1st ruck.

Jacobs will be the surprise packet in the ruck next year, and is good value at $375 IMO.

My rucks will be Sandilands and Jacobs on the field, with Petrie and Z. Smith on the bench. Smith should get plenty of game time (come on, does ANYONE think Fraser will be able to ruck out a full season ???) and Petrie is a great cheapie at $224.

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

Be cautious with Jacobs. There's a significant difference between second ruck up against second rucks and tired first rucks as opposed to being the main ruckman which you seem to expect of him.

Liking this strategy... :thumbsu:

Currently looking at Kruezer & Ryder as my starting rucks with one to upgrade to Sandi at a later stage. Smith is an excellent MPP option with Petrie in the fwd line with Tippett. Rhys Stanley (205k)also looks a good MPP option as well.

Not sure if you'd want to start out with Kreuzer. Coming back from his knee he'll most likely be eased into the season. He might be played up forward before he returns to his ruck diuties.

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

Jolly averaged close to 100 in the last two months or so of 2010, if he can carry that form into 2011 then he has to be considered a bargain. A Sandi/Jolly starting combo with Petrie in as a F subbing in for J.Tippett for byes could be the way to go, unless a Fraser/Leunberger/Goldstein type have a massive pre-season and warrant selection as R2.

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

Surprised Hale hasn't been mentioned... Looks OK to me

He's had an injury setback UTG, nothing serious AFAIK but he's had an interrupted pre-season and no certainty for rd. 1.

If he could get back to the kind of scores he was putting up when last used seriously as a ruckman he could be decent value with his R/F status.

What are peoples thought on robert Campbell on the Bench?

iirc, Campbell is on the rookie list. Meaning he is unlikely to get upgraded to the seniors unless Melbourne get a bunch of injuries. Not first in line for the second ruck spot, which makes him cheap for a reason.

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

Who are the R/F MPPs other than Petrie and the Tippetts?

I'd like Petrie in the forward line, but don't want Kurt after being burnt last year and don't want Joel as my R4 because I'll have Smith. Any other cheap R/F options for R4?

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

J.Tippett is the cheapest at around $125k from memory. Not bargain basement but at least opens up the opportunity for MPP.

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

Could be a good selection but at this stage we don't even know if he will replace Maric as number one ruckman. Given the Subs rule its probably only one of Maric or Jacobs plus one of Moran McKernan or Sellar.
