Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

Stanley played as a forward last year when Riewoldt was injured.
No garuantee he will get a regular gig this year.

I'm interested in hearing comments regarding Hale.

Would steer clear of David Hale. Doesn't get enough of the ball and just won't be a consistent point scorer. He'll burn you many a week.

Sandilands
Petrie
Charman
R.Campbell

They're my 4 atm. Will switch Charman for Zac Smith if Charman isn't in the team Round 1.

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

Josh fraiser??
- should get a game every week barring injury,
- should be pretty fresh considering he played most of last year in the 2's.
- will play 50/50 ruck and forward. pity he is not a MPP.

am considering him as my third ruck off the bench to cover for byes and/or short term injuries ...

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

Would go with Zac Smith ahead of Charman, Charman is an injury waiting to happen, Smith will ruck with Fraser every week and looks like he could be one of the best ruckmen in the game in a few years time.

I think Hale could be an ok mid-priced improver, although I will only pick him if Knights and/or Petrie don't come up for round one.

He should ruck a bit at Hawthorn and IDK what effect playing in Hawthorn's forward line will have on his output.

I read that he's had an achilles problem recently. If I don't see him play in the NAB Cup I'll be even less likely to pick him.

Sandi, Goldstein, Petrie, Smith

Fair bit of cash, bit worried about Goldstein, should I keep him or swap him out, if so who for?

I'm deciding on Jolly or Goldstein for R2. Goldstein may be better value but could drop back a little as McIntosh gains fitness throughout the year.

Jolly started poorly last year and improved as the season wore on.

Yeah that was what I was thinking, I think I will go Goldy though!

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

Maybe trade Tippet into ruck for Goldy and then find a differnt forward? I dont like having 2 NM players in the ruck and I think Petrie is a really good back up so I want to keep him!

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

Ben McEvoy? With Gardiner struggling with injury and King gone he'd surely get the number 1 ruck spot? Could be worth a fling to fill the 2nd ruck spot.

For me, it could be him or Leuenberger to fill the 2nd spot. I'm taking a bit of a punt. Thoughts?

Overall, there is quite a bit of value for a 2nd ruckman to be honest, but i'm hoping one of those 2 might be the unique-ish pick to give me an edge. :D

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

Liking this strategy... :thumbsu:

Currently looking at Kruezer & Ryder as my starting rucks with one to upgrade to Sandi at a later stage. Smith is an excellent MPP option with Petrie in the fwd line with Tippett. Rhys Stanley (205k)also looks a good MPP option as well.

Rhys Stanley out for 6 weeks, read the riot act and will easily miss the 1st mth

Yeah I see StKilda's most likely round one setup as being McEvoy as main ruck with Kosi rotating in from the forward line when needed.
McEvoy won't be the greatest ruck against the likes of the big guns though, but he gets a bit of it round the ground, so he could be OK.
Kosi has some injury concerns at the moment though as well.

Gardiner is hoping to be playing within three weeks ( despite a way of track rumour twitted by Jay Clark ).
Stanley will be available but his game time ( practice games with Sandringham ) won't be as valuable as NAB cup exposure.

I see the most likely StKilda combinations being.
Kosi/McEvoy Kosi/Gardiner Stanley/McEvoy Stanley/Gardiner Stanley/Koschitski. Blake may also have a minor role.
Gardiner and McEvoy can take the odd grab in the forward line but I wouldn't position them there for most of the game. So if StKilda's selectors agree with me, you have 4 ruckmen, all of which will get some games if they are fit, but all of which may randomly not be selected.

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

Im looking at haveing Sandi #1 with Mummy #2, with J Tippett (MPP) and another rookie. I got killed with my rucks last season and hoping this may be better... What you guys think about Mummy??

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

Re: McEvoy - he's a good ruckman, but he's not a good SC scorer (if you get what I mean?)

There are certain players who perform their role beautifully, but rarely score well in fantasy. I reckon McEvoy is one of these and there are better options around in his kind of price range.

I'm surprised more people aren't looking at Leuenberger, he showed some great signs last year and has the potential to be one of the gun ruckmen of the comp.

Yeah was impressed by Leuenberger, certainly a better ruckman then Clark and looks like Clark will probably play fwd more depending on the menace if he is out of rehab or whatever..

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

Is Tippet worth keeping, i have him but also am thinking of getting D.Petrie instead.

EDIT: nvm i managed to get them both.

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

Can't decide Clark vs Leuenberger for 2nd ruck spot...

Clark will be playing FF or CHF for the majority of the time, occasionally giving Leuey a rest by switching to ruck. This means if he is effective as a forward, he will be score a fair amount of goals off a fair amount of marks, and thus a fair amount of SC points...

Leuey however, may have boosted scores simply for spending more time in the ruck, and also with natural improvement (He's only 22 from memory)...

Thoughts?

Re: 2011 SC Rucks Discussion Thread

Im going. Mummy, Petrie (Z.Smith, Campbell)

Like Petrie, hopefully he holds up. I am reading up about Z Smith, looks like a good chance, considering Fraser might very wel end up injured and the 205cm giant might be a real possibilty for game time.

Not sure about Campbell, too concerning about retiring from a knee injury, being out of the game, and coming back in.

At the moment, I Have Sandilands, Hale(Can swap with K Tippett and D Petrie in forward line) Z Smith

But the last Ruck I can't figure out yet, not that its a huge concern

Is Nathan Vardy a possibility to play for Geelong under injury, He's down as 198 and 94KG.

Who would you pick for a fourth ruck?

I wondered about Trengove ( Port ) as a cheap 4th. I don't see a "predictable" rookie pick apart from smith.

Nah I looked at that, he's valued at 252k, and only swaps with Keppler Bradley in defence, I just dont think its worth it. I don't think Trengove can get +60 pts. He's not going to be a high scoring player......Unless he's tried and made a sucess in the forward line.

Eade said in the media a couple of weeks back that Cordy will make an ideal sub because of his mobility, so he's a chance of getting games. Fair enough, his TOG will reduce his scoring potential, but getting games, a 35-50 point average and being dirt cheap is all I'm looking for in a 4th ruck - he's looking like a decent option.
