HE'S A DIRTY EYE GOUGER!!!!

Scarlett may face scrutiny

By Michael Gleeson and Steve Butler
April 10, 2006

GEELONG full-back Matthew Scarlett will lead a clutch of players likely to be scrutinised by the match review panel this week after a slightly more spiteful second round of football.

After no reports were laid in the opening round of the AFL, the match review panel and the tribunal are likely to be busier this week, with a host of incidents to draw the attention of Peter Schwab and his panel.

Scarlett was the biggest name to feature among the more obvious incidents after he appeared to strike Kangaroos forward Leigh Harding in the first quarter of Saturday's match at Skilled Stadium. No report was laid on the day, although a free kick was paid. That does not mean that after video review, the match review panel could not report the incident.

While television replays gave an obscured view of the incident, Scarlett seemed to thrust his hand towards Harding's face, while Harding was lying face down with Geelong's Will Slade on top of him. Harding leapt up to remonstrate with Scarlett. A bruise could be seen under his eye later.

SIX WEEKS!

Re: How many weeks will Scarlett get?

After all we are trying to stamp out that sort of thing.

It has no place in modern football.

You mean like when Glenn Archer smacked Cameron Thurley last year against Geelong and got suspended for 1 week? Yes that has no place in modern football either. Thurley was lying on the ground when Archer belted him, that must have been very courageous. Thank God he was playing on Kingsley though, his pace worked wonders for your defence. Plus his discipline - 2 50 metre penalties for goals wasn't it?

By the way, Scarlett hasn't missed a game since 2001 - good to know your research is up to scratch.

Yep, justice was done.

The same thing will happen to the cowardly eye gouger.

Irrelevant question, ignore.

Please point out where I stated he had missed games since 2001?

Can someone clarify how many times has been pinched for striking?

I am fairly sure he got 2 weeks last year.

He could go for 4 weeks this time.

Such a shame to see such a talented footballer showing such a lack of discipline.:(

Of course it could have been someone else.

If you look at the first sentence you will see that I did ask for clarification.

Anyway, you seem to know his tribunal record, so why don't you post it?

Actually I don't. I knew he hadn't missed a game since 2001 but as for reports before and after I'm not too sure.

I mentioned on another post that I still think it's a 50/50 deal, if he's cited. You do see him swing the arm but you don't see contact. The umpire was right there and didn't make a report. I'm not saying he'll definitely get off but from the video evidence there is there is still an element of doubt.

Either way, if he goes so be it, if not good.

What about Archer's cowardly king-hit on first gamer Tom Lonergan in that same game ?
I certainly don't see Archer as a coward whereas Scarlett is a repeat offender of sniping from behind or when his target can't hit back.
You can argue this till the cows come home but it is fact.

When Harley gets back the boy will be starved of opportunity. We have the feelers out already.

Be afraid, be very afraid.;)
Havnt you ever heard of a third tall? D***head.

Who actually cares if he misses next week? Its not like we cany cover him, its called depth Flag Man, good teams have it.

Sorry to the rest of the roos supporters, im not trying to rub it into you, only young immature naive bandwagoners like Flag Man

This is lunacy.

What he did was gutless. It doesn't make him any less good, any less gutsy or any less a champion. It just means he lost his marbles for a few seconds and did something beneath him.

Archer's done it. Carey did it. Schwass stomped a bloke FFS.

And people reckon we're defensive.

Jesus.

Any other week we would be fine, Egan could move to FB no problems. Egan can't play on Williams or Brad Johnson he is not quick enough. Both Scarlett and Harley can play small, Harley is better on the small forwards (Matera, Robertson are amongst his bitches) because he has the pace/agility to run with them as well as the strength/reach adavantage.

Who exactly are we going to play on Williams if Scarlett joins Harley on the sidelines? Cameron Mooney? David Johnson? Jared Rooke? We would be in trouble. It's the worst potential two weeks he could miss bar St. Kilda and Gehrig, Riewoldt and Kosi.

Good post, but the trouble with Scarlett is he is a repeat offender.:(
