Always look at the injury list in the herald sun each week, and I know Byron had surgery and complications last year. But lately he hasn't been on the injury list after he was specified indefinate a couple of weeks back.

Is he back playing????

Unless he injures himself in the next fortnight he is a certainty to play round 13.

Dont speak such things:(....

I reckon we'll hit our straps with both The Wizard and Schammertime coming back into the team. As pointed out, both players have been showing excellent form in the WAFL and will hopefully have an immediate postive impact on the Freo' team.:thumbsu::D

I think we should trade Schammer as soon as possible. Alot of people over rate him, and we should off load him for an early draft pick asap.

Schammer was one of our best in our final win over Melbourne. He really stood up to be counted when the Dees were challenging us in the first half.

If people are going to use poor finals performances to beat guys like Dessie and Macca with then credit has to be given to guys like Schammer that showed they've got what it takes when it counts.

Schammer is still seen as a good prospect - before the other clubs realise he is a lemon we should trade him.

You're a very negative fellow aren't you GJ?

I don't think Schammer's a lemon at all. The guy's got a lot of talent and he's only what - 21 or 22? People used to say Bell's disposal was too poor for AFL as well.

Some people want to trade away all our young players if they've not become Judd by the time they're 21 but then point to all the players we've let go playing well for other clubs as examples of why we never get anywhere.

I don't think we've lost any real "stars" to other clubs. The problem is our development system seems to suck for certain players. Its arguable that Schammer has actually gone backwards in the last 2 years.

So let's concentrate on developing our players better instead of trading out anyone who's not an immediate superstar.

I don't think there is a problem with our development system anyway. Guys like Hayden, Johnson, Grover, Sandi, Peake, Crowley and Dodd don't seem to have had a problem developing from no names into quality players in our system.

I will concede on Grover - he has developed into a terrific (and very under-rated) player in the AFL.

However, guys like Crowley, Hayden, Johnson, Peake have impressed to date based on natural talent. The true test for those guys will be whether they can go to the next level. Based on past experience, the dockers do not have a good development system to help young players to move beyong natural talent and become dominant players in the competition.

Schammer is in many ways evidence of this problem
The difference with Schammer is he was pick 13. All the other guys -- Crowley, Hayden, Johnson, Grover, Dodd, Webster,Hadrill and Sandilands are all very late picks or rookie listings. Hard to argue we don't develop players with that lot proving to be at AFL standard. And relative to other clubs I rate us as exceptional.

Most all players plateau at some point, and sometimes they go backwards, and then forwards again.

That is a bloody big call, considering we have one of the biggest recruiting budgets. We recruit talent, i don't think anyone is denying that. The problem is none of our talent is coming on through the system. I think we're good at getting guys to perform at an average, steady level. I just think we're lacking the abillity for guys to take it to the next level.

I don't see anyone disagreeing that Schammer has gone backwards in the last 2 years. I can't tell you how highly i used to rate Schammer. Now i merely think hes is a 22 player but not a top 10 player, which is a shame.

That has only been the case in the last year or so. Previous to that We were bottom four in footy department spending.

It will that a few years for the bigger recuiting spend to actually work through to results on field.

Schammer I think is just a confidence player, when he is down his game suffers and supporters who were quick to boo him early last year should keep that in mind. We have seen glimpses of what Schammer can do and by all accounts his preseason last year was brilliant until he was cut down with the appendix. Many of the Freo staff were predicting a break through year for Schammer this year.

He is cutting it up at WAFL level with 33 touches last week in dragging Claremont over the line by one point coming from behind and given his young age, you would be stupid not to give him at least the rest of this year and next to see what he can do at senior level.

I wouldn't be letting him go at all.

Definately.

Looking forward to Schammer's return, he has been in red hot form for Claremont.

I agree with your comments regarding Jeffrey's importance - however, I think alot of people are over-rating the impact Byron Schammer will have on the team.

Schammer is an average player at best - who lacks the physical attributes to survive in the modern game. Schammer is too short, lacks over head marking skills, and has below average foot skills.

This isnt just an attack on Schammer because he is vertically challenged, the problem is that Schammer lacks the footy brains and skills to help overcome his dwarf like features (in contrast to Peter Bell).

I think we should trade Schammer as soon as possible. Alot of people over rate him, and we should off load him for an early draft pick asap.
You're a knob, clearly.

Blame CC for Schammers shithouse 2006. That **** ****ed him up. Anyone remember that 2006 Semi Final v Melbourne? CC finally put him on the wing and Schammer delivered and chopped the Dees up.

If he's played right he'll be a gun.

This is why your coach needs to leave.

Schammer is clearly a top 10 player on potential alone.

Yup, Schammers best form has been on the wing, his break through season was played ont he wing. Having him kick out of defense where you need to pin point a target was just madness. Blacky and even Dessy would do a better job getting the cheapies off the hb flank and delivering it to the wingers.

We didn't get the big budget untill 2003/4. The whole club was operating on a shoestring before then.

I've never rated him. We'll see how he shapes in the next 10 games.

I hope he's a bleeding saviour myself.

We'll we've signed him up for another 2 years, so lets hope hes at least passable :| I rate the guy highly, and i rate his toughness, but i would have at least waited until he played a couple of AFL games this year before i signed him up again.
