Have followed Byron Schammer since he started at Freo and was disgusted by the treatment he has received from some of the Freo fams when he made some fumbles in a game against North, Richmond and Geelong. He has played some tremendous games for Fremanyle in the past and has looked a superstar in the making. Is his contract up at the end of the year? If it was , the actions of some stupid fans could be the catalyst in helping bring him back to South Australia where he'd be welcomed with open arms by both clubs. All clubs need the support of their fans if they are to perform. I think some of the Freo fans need to wake up and get behind their club in good days and poor ones. I am one supporter from another club who enjoys the Fremantle games. How about getting behind your club instead of bronx cheers all the time!

Fair call, no argument from me on that one.

So azza, you're getting behind the coach for the rest of the season?

Geez, I hope CC don't bend over. :D

Was referring to Schammers poor treamtment, which will probably see him living in Adelaide playeing his AFL career as soon as next year.

End of 2007.

Can't see a trade being done in the mean time, and can see him being re-signed no problems.

I gave him one bronx cheer against North when he finally hit a target, in the humour of the moment, along with a bunch of us and thought little more of it. Some 'supporters' have seen fit to absolutely rail against him since, which make a mockery of the term. I agree with Andrew they are 3<:o)'s of the highest order.

Just on Schammer, I have become a little more concerned about his straight line speed, whilst quick, he isn't faster than a lot of midfielders, but he does have that fantastic jink. Still fantastic to see the pressure he has been putting on opposition with the ball over the last two weeks, going from opponent to opponent as they struggle to get the ball out to advantage. His agility is elite.

You make some valid points AndrewJo, and the treatment of young Byron was extremely disappointing. But after 11 and a half disappointing seasons, and 3 poor coaches, it is hard for a lot of supporters to be 100% behind the club when we know there are so many internal problems.

He is still very raw. The majority of players are debuting, not heading towards their 70th game.

Trust me, his kicking has gone wayward for a while, but it'll come back. Plenty to look forward to in Fremantle colours, he loves the club. Most importantly the club (and supporters) love him, an absolute workhorse.

Thanks to those Freo people who responded to my post and gave me the answers I wanted. It is refreshing to get some reasonable answers in discussions between supporters. i note that he is signed until the end of 2007 so he would not move unless a mutual trade was organised. Thanks again for your information.Hope you make the eight.:)

If you want to be a star on the field then you need to look after yourself off the field. And that includes your attitude to taem mates.

Can't speak for everyone AJ but I think you'll find the supporters treatment of Shamster was probably more of a reflection of the selection committees need to play a guy who was starting to become wayward for whatever reason.

It was apparent he needed time in the WAFL and a rest from top class football to regain confidence in his abilities as a footballer. Most supporters saw this but the selectors didn't and played him to his own demise I guess.

Look whats happen since; a spell away and he looks well on his way back to his speedy best.

I'm sure the Sham will be back to his brilliant best soon (as long as he doesn't run his car over a roundabout and into another two in a drunken state!).

P.S. had to get that dig in to the Gards!

Great and valid points there Spity.

He is a champ and turn into a better player and learn how to deal with the crap players and supporters dish. Ahhh the pressure of being a public profile and all that glorious money and fame. If not, get a job in an office and come back to the reeal world of low pay and 'no thanks' from the boss :)

He'll grow and mature. Supporters shouldn't have to be "soft" on the players if they aren't playing the best week in and week out. Geeez this is footy, a game we are commenting on - not war.

Everyone wants to see the club move forward and not backward with coach decisions or backward players.

Simple really :)

I don't know whether anyone remmbers but Blocker and I had a discussion on Schammer last year after I said he was overrated. I said I hoped I would be proved wrong, but he still has some way to go. At the moment, he is in the twilight zone of WAFL star -- AFL fringe player.

My point last year was relative to his actual merits I thought he was getting overrated. He's very light, not quick, he can't mark overhead, his disposal has always been wayward and his vision is not great. His agility is brilliant and I remember he was top or in the top 3 in his draft year. But putting him in the backline has exposed his deficiencies, and now he is suffering because he's having a particularly bad patch and supporters are on his back.

I don't think anyone questions his endeavour. He's absolutely Mr 110% and I admire him for that but you will get divided camps in the same way Macca and Cook divides our supporters. And every club has players who play their hearts out but struggle to measure up, and get a supporter earful.

Do they deserve the carp from the supporters? I don't think so but thats the nature of AFL. I think Byron will turn it around though sheer force of will, and there is another blonde guy at the club who is the perfect role model.

As to Byron returning to Adelaide. Do you reckon he would get a game at the Crows at the minute?

All that was apparent is that CC tried to make him into rebound defender when he is clearly a wing/outside player.

The kid needs space, the inside and defensive work will come. He's a younger Dessie.

Go Schammertime!

Schammer's a gun. Talent to burn.

Just having a rough patch.
I see that he is back in the side. Am I correct in saying that he has only missed selection in one match this year?...That being Round 13??
He looked to do a few good things on Saturday with little game time.

schammers kicking has been good up to recently and didnt deserve the jeers.I thought it was for someone actually kicked it instead of handballing:o .does anyone else think he would be worth a try in the clearances.maybe not this year but i would like to see him given a go at it.definately has the mind set for it.
