For the past few weeks I've regrettably had to rename Byron Schammer.

He's been deplorable in certain aspects of his game, his decision making and his execution have been second rate.

I'm interested to hear whether others Freo supporters think he should be allowed to keep getting games in the hope that he'll come good, or should he go back to the WAFL to find form where his skill errors won't hurt us?

Is he turning it around or not?

Until he turns his form around he'll be known as Byron Schambles.

Hes too much of a young talent to be dropped. I still think he has his moments and there is at least two off the top of my head that should be dropped before him.

Given our injuries and probable suspensions he'll continue to get a game. He was very good against the Eagles and Melbourne. His worst game was against the Kangaroos. Every other game has been average.

He and Matt Carr are both skating on thin ice.

Probably right Sabre. The one thing he does bring is enthusiasm & desperation & a excellent work ethic.

We have too few of them so I am prepared to wear acouple of clangers for now.

I have a theory.

Schammer is a midfielder. CC is playing him back.

Now a prerequisite for playing in the freo back line is being a good field kick. This is why mcpharlin and polak do not play CHB. Schammer is a good field kick, he is purposely kicking the ball badly so he can be moved into the midfield.

Now I realise you have your tongue planted firmly in your cheek... but by crikey Polak's field kicking has improved out of sight this year. Pin-pointing players 40-50 metres away, which he never used to be able to do. Watch this boy's improvement with each week as his confidence grows. He's taking a while, but he'll get there and be a very, very good player for us.

Beat me to it. It seemed so strange hearing Wally say on radio "thats a terrific kick from Polak" repeatedly.

Agree completely. While he is giving 100%, we can't drop him while still keeping a few who continue to give 80%.

Spot on the money. DO NOT trade Polak. He will be a gun for us. Especially when he is 24 plus and realises he's one of the bigger bodies out there. Like to see a bit more mongrel in him but I reckon this will come with time.

LoL, been saying it all along. Only a donkey wouldnt know that Schammer is a midfielder. Putting a bloke in the backline just because he is suppose to be a good kick is pretty crap. A natural midfilder who should stay where he plays best.

It's not like CC to play players out of position is it? :p

Lmaooooooooooo - schambles - hell come good

The Schammer midfield experiment was starting to faulter as well. He started in great touch a few years back then got ironed out several games in a row.

The move to the backline has reinvigorated his run but he needs to improve his tackling and spoiling before it can be deemed a good move.

The guy lacks a bit of strength, he can't tackle the bigger bodied players. This will come with a few more preseasons and naturally as he gets older.

In the meantime, we either get great drive out of defence, with little actual defending. Or we get a midfielder with little to no defensive side. CC has chosen the former. While we continue to play a congested backline its working OK.

He's a valuable player, just needs to get his kicking in order. This may or may not come from a stint in the WAFL. Given our current injury and suspension list i don't think he'll be dropped.

With belly injured and DJ possible due for a suspension its time to bring back roger in the back pocket and move byron to the midfield. Give him arun with role.
