Shouldnt there be a limit of 1 Gumby player per team. We already have LRT.
stop narking LRT, he'll be a key player for us for years.....geez that kinda comment fecking shites me.....he's still learning footy
and playfair is a mate of LRT's, they went to school together
actually, right now i don;t care about playfair, i just hate to see swans fans slagging LRT and getting all sooked up about dempster, who just keeps making dumb decisions and mistakes, and schneider, who had some great moments for us but also was largely disappointing

Gumby isnt necessarily a insult. You can look like a Gumby and still be a good player. Spida occasionally looks like a Gumby (especially when he is trying to pick the ball up in live play) but no one would suggest that he is a bad player.

I know I'll still be sulking for a while yet. If it was just Schneider, I'll still sulk but can get over it quicker, but adding in Dempster really annoy the crap out of me. The whole salary crap pressure is crap - there are a few senior players earning much more who have performed much less last year and they are still here. I can't possibly imagine that Dempster is on a contract big enough to cause any problems.

I like LRT though, and don't mind Playfair coming along either, but it was a bad trade for us, I'm quite fixed on that.

I would have preferred to keep Dempster and trade J Bolton, perhaps for a pick in the high teens. Obviously no other teams were keen on him though.

Same. Hell, I would have gave Jude to St. Kilda as the freebie if salary cap is really that big of a problem or better still instead of Schneider as well.

Us Geelong fans are almost jumping for joy, the untradable has been traded. Who knows, might get a good player at pick 44, might not, it's sure as hell better for us than Playfair who was going nowhere. Geelong has done well with late picks so I'm happy with this. Saints deal?, yeah well, I'm not gonna bother trying to understand that.
Was Playfair ever really given that much of a chance @ Geelong with the talent you have got? He might come up here and flourish. Hoping for the C.Bolton effect rather than the Spriggs/Daffy effect.

Or the Paul Chambers effect (shudder!).... We really haven't had much luck trading with the cats.

Dempster is an absolute spacka and Im so happy to see the back of him. BUT why oh why with Schneiderman?

Young NSW boy who can kick a goal? Wouldnt we want to keep him?

Lucky I still have faith in Roosy or I would be calling for his head.

Yeah I know. Maybe Im completely delusional but I reckon Playfair will go alright in a Swans jumper. Heres hoping
yeah, i'm olooking at playfair in a positive light....he seemed to be one of those players under bomber thompson who, like so many under eade in his last years at the swans, paid for any little mistake with benching or the axe......if he earns a spot in the 22, let's hope he gets time to cement it, and not be up and down like a fiddler's elbow

Playfair was decent back in '05, but he wasn't the same after he broke his jaw that year, dunno why but that's just it. Good luck to him.

Lets look at this with a big picture view, we got M Mattner, H Playfair and pick 26. We gave away A Schneider, S Dempster, pick 28 and pick 44 (I think). We needed an outside midfielder with speed, we got him, we needed a big kpp player, we got him. I have to admit schneider was one of my fav players but it gives players like Phillips a shot at senior footy and I wouldnt have Dempster in my team ahead of say, C Bolton, Malceski, Kennelly or Mattner. This draft isnt meant to be deep (decent picks to about 35), and we have 11 (hopefully for a good young kpp prospect, and 26 (hopefully for a midfielder with pace) as well as C Bird. I think we have done pretty well :thumbsu:

This argument is flawed
Why are you setting up schneids & demp against mattner & playfair?
Its as though we could have had only one or the other?
IMO the argument should be

schneider & Dempster vs pick 26

and IMO we lose.

we would have been a lot stronger if we had scheider, dempster and mattner.

Yeah. That's true...but while we're looking in the bigger picture...Sydney is a low scoring team. To give away a top 5 team goal kicker in a low scoring team is unfathomable...particularly one who's won us a few games.

...it gives players like Phillips a shot at senior footy...
Players like Phillips against big bodied players of the modern game won't go anywhere near the skill of Schneider.

Schmidt might. He's got a good mind for the game.

If we're to have any chance to score goals and win, Malceski needs to lift his running game and at the very least double his '07 season tally of 11 goals.

Agreed. We had Mattner before yesterday.

IMO, there's a bit of the ol' "mates rates" happening between Lyon and Roos...with Roos being the losing party.
Dempster alone is worth more than pick 26, IMO.

I think when Phillips plays in the senior side next year, I don't think he'll have any trouble with the big bodied players. By watching a few reserve games, you'd be surprised how well he marks... theres a hint of ROK in him. A strong body mark and can leap very high. Pretty small and pacey. But I just think Phillips could develop and become a better player than Schneider IMO. No disrespect to Schneider, he's a great player and has some very slick and freakish goal kicking.

Macleski will get moved to the midfield. Leave Mattner and Tadhg to do all the running off half back.

No one but a one-eyed Swans supporter could think that. I really like Dempster and am disappointed that he's gone and I don't think he had a decent run further up the ground (too much the case of Roos taking any flair out of players), but based on his performance he would have been lucky to secure a third-round pick.

I thought you liked Ablett - you have him as the 6th interchange player! I can't believe anyone still thinks there is a role for J Bolton any more, apart from the occasional cameo.

Is anyone else annoyed that Schnieder played only 98 games for the Swams. Knowing our luck Schnieder will prodeuce many talented sons.

Its sad to know he didnt get to make a milestone for himself by playing 100 games for the Swans

Ill make sure he has many more talented children ;)
