are you talking about leigh fisher?

he usually plays of the backline.

as for whether I am at games or not, yes I do have witness

Sorry Dan, as much as I like Leigh Fisher his foot skills are far from dependable not too mention when his opponent drags him deep, leads then double back he gets misjudges the ball in flight quite a bit and continually gets caught out.

you'll find due to injuries he has less than 50 games experience.

many players get caught out by forwards doubling back, heck heatly used to make a mess of silvagni doing that, and that was before the push in the back rule and silvagni was hanging onto his jumper and frankly silvagni>heatly for quality.

about the only players who regularly mess him up are jeff farmer and gablett junior IMO.

when he does win the ball, he is usually one of our more dependable disposers of the ball, and doesn't turn it over frankly like CJ, birss, and frankly in 07 a fair few more.

Unless the Saints offer something better doesn't look like we'll be trading Schneider after all.

SWANS coach Paul Roos last night remained adamant the club would not be giving away any premiership heroes after a fruitless day at AFL trade week.

Roos admitted that midfielder Jude Bolton and small forwards Amon Buchanan and Adam Schneider were more than likely to stay at Sydney despite their names being floated by the club during trade talks.

"Things have been blown out of proportion a little bit with them (Bolton, Buchanan and Schneider)," Roos said.

"I'm almost certain nothing is going to happen with them (in trade week). We are not going to give any of them away for nothing, that's for sure."

That's the reality - you've got to give something decent to get what you want. So what if you trade a second round - half of them play bugger all AFL footy anyway!!!

4/5ths of trade gossip is BS

I think the papers haven't been too far off the mark with rumours - but I guess there are 1,000's of crappy propositions (like Pettifer for St Kilda's pick 9) in the blogs.

yeah I was suprised at the call of salary cap pressures.

Im not suprised though at bolton, buchanan, etc being listed as trade bait.

tadgghahah Kenneally's absence mid season revealed how dependant sydney are on him, and paul roos, normally unflappable demeanour crying about injuries.

its clear that he is willing to clear the decks to entice a player to support, back up and add to taghdhehdge in the sydney team.

Leigh Fisher failed his fitness test so will be staying with the Saints. Schneider and his mate will be coming to the Saints for our second rounder.

lol if that is so, its a bargain for us.

IMO
leigh fisher for shneider = they win
fish + 26 for schneider = they win big time
26 for schneider = minor win for us.
26 for schneider + dempster = theoretically a big win for us, but maybe a bit like us clearing spider = clears salary cap room for sydney.

IMO roos is after someone, and he's putting together a package of picks. he's very clever and competent, and doesn't blab his mouth. He's after pace, I wouldn't be suprised if he's putting together a draft pick package for adcock.

player + sydneys round 1 pick and our round 2 pick = adcock.

still leaves sydney's round 2 pick to grab a player not too late in the draft.

just hypothesising.

brian you got that from the main board and it's rubbish. Fisher may or may not be going but there is noway he failed the fitness test. By the way this was posted by a adelaide supporter how the hell would he know???

Hey fatcat, I did not get it from the main board, I dont read that crap. I only post in VAFA and Saints, it came from a club source. Leigh has back and string probs, but he can still play.

WHAT???

How could he fail his fitness test? I thought he was one of our fitter blokes, hence why he got a run through the guts later in the year.

No query on the cardio fitness, but it is concieveable a test would review the hamstring scarring. You'd remember he had two bad tears. Is it only speculation that he had a test at all?

I'd rather keep him and trade picks, but we need to look for specific players before 2pm tomorrow - rather than hope a similar type will be there in the second round of the draft.

In theory I favour trading pick 26 over trading pick 26, but there's one rather major problem. We are required to pick up three players in the draft regardless of the picks we trade, and trading a draft pick means not only do we lose a decent pick, but we also have three players on our list instead of two.

If we trade draft picks for players, that'll mean more delistings in a season where seven players have already gone.

Doesn't it depend whether we can keep players as rookies? With 2 delistings and 5 retirements (Attard & Jones promoted), there are 5 spots to fill?

What?

7 players have been delisted or retired from the 2007 list. It is reported that two rookies have been elevated, which leaves 5 spots. Most people expect us to use 4 draft picks and 1 PSD pick.

If we trade away pick 26 for Schneider it just means that we only have 4 spots open and will use 3 ND picks and 1 PSD pick. It has absolutely no influence on list numbers at all.

That's before trades. Most of the trades discussed on these boards have involved St Kilda giving a draft pick and getting a player. So if (in the unlikely event) we do pick up Dempster, Schneider, King and Johnson all for picks, that means there's one spot left when we have to draft at least three players.

Playfair joins schoolmate at Swans
October 12, 2007

The Swans last night completed their trade week dealing by securing Geelong forward Henry Playfair and finalising the deal that will send premiership forward Adam Schneider and half-back Sean Dempster from Sydney to St Kilda.

snip

Despite initial reluctance, the popular Schneider yesterday agreed to be traded to St Kilda with Dempster for the Saints' second draft pick (No.26). Dempster was more eager to join former Swans assistant coach Ross Lyon at Moorabbin, believing he will get more game time.

"It's a difficult decision and Schneids wanted to think it over, but he's handled it well and the important thing is that, as premiership players, both of them feel like they can come back to the club at some stage," Roos said.

After a day of very little news, it appears that we will get the trade done before the 2pm deadline later today.

I'm rapt. Personally I think Dan Warna is really underestimating the effect that Schneider will have on our team. He's going to give us a bit of extra pace and will prove to be a great linkman between the midfield and the forward line.

I know it's pretty easy to put together a highlights package of most players and this won't convince his critics about his consistency but it's hard not to be excited. Turn away when he kicked the 4 goals in the final quarter of the 2005 Prelim though.:o

Dempster is a kid who hasn't played a lot of footy recently but you have to remember that he kept his spot in a very good Sydney team for a few seasons including in the 2005 premiership team. I would have thought Schneider is worthy of our second round draft pick alone so he's virtually coming for nothing. He's more of a negating defender so we don't really need a stats person to point out his lack of possessions.

Very good bit of business Saints.

Interesting to see if anything else happens today too. I can't think of a ruckman that we could pick up but there are always surprise trades that pop up on the final day. I'd also like some sort of announcement on where the club stands with Michael Gardiner. We keep hearing mixed reports. Is he going to be offered a new contract?

I feel sick after watching that video.

But not as sick as we felt after Plugger left. :p

I think as a Saints supporter it's kind of reassuring to see so many of your supporters feeling the way that you are because you rate the guy so highly and feel that his departure will leave a void in your side.

It's the opposite of last season when Bulldogs supporters were falling over each other to wish Birss the best of luck and were rapt that he was getting a chance. Don't get me wrong, it was great that they were so gracious but it kind of makes you wonder just how good this guy could be when all of their supporters were so happy for him to go elsewhere.

Exactly right.
Anybody who thinks you are just getting a goal sneak will be pleasantly surprised.

However whilst he has good pace, he probably isn't as quick as at the start of his career, as he's had a couple of bad hamstring pulls, that have affected his explosiveness.

Dempster has actually quite a deal of upside.
He ran 2.91 for the 20m at the 2002 draft camp (4th quickest) and was the top rated tall in the beep test. He's 192cm and a good long kick.

He's been played primarily BP/HBF, but he has definite potential to play further up the ground.

Although playing in our premiership, he's not a Paul Roos dour type defender, so was in & out of the team.

Roos lack of confidence was typified by the fact that Dempster had a career high 22 disposals, 11 marks against West Coast in round 16 & was then dropped for 5 weeks.

Lyon knows his capabilities and if he gives him confidence Dempster could be a very handy pick up for you.

Lastly I'm not sure the Saints have done a great bit of business, I think we've managed to shaft ourselves all on our own.
