It's probably in the best interests of the younger players to sign shorter contracts, as they are rapidly improving at this stage of their careers and would expect significant increases each time they sign a new deal.

In contrast, senior players have generally stopped improving, and in some cases are in decline. It's in their best interests to hold onto what they have for as long as possible, hence the longer contracts.
