As Much as i felt for Shep missing out through injury i was never worried that it would cost us as i thought Schoey would play that role well was actually very unlucky to be dropped in the 1st place and Simmo said it was one of the hardest things he has had to do as a coach. Was immense all day and didn't lose a contest, Degoey kicked his goals from the midfield.
Comfortably one of the best on ground yesterday, along with Barass he was an absolute wall down back for the much of the game.Always a personal favourite of mine, Schofield has spent large sections of his time at the Eagles fighting for a spot in the backline. A player never considered one of the key defenders picked in the team first, but rather, a fill in. An extra tall if we need extra, or a backup tall if we lose one, or being picked as the versatile backman that gives flexibility.
Frequently rated by BF as depth, or replace, I think with a GF win under his belt, he should be reassessed a bit by the BF Eagles community.
Has had a remarkable year really.
Out of the team and potentially done, comes in through fortune, plays well. Dropped for no lack in his own game (team balance). Misses the first final, back in through luck, and puts together 2 really solid games.
Collingwood players, especially the great and glorious De Gooey had enough looks at the footy one on one with Schofield for them to have put the game out of reach even if Schofield has an OK day. Schofield has to have a great day, he has to win these for the Eagles still to be in it, and half it if he cannot win it.
Really feel for Sheppard, but I am really glad Schofield got a run in the GF, and especially glad he played so well.
Testament to the fact that players can be key servants of your club when they are only borderline best 22. A lot of clubs would kill to have a Schofield of their own.
I never thought of any of that. You make some great points. Every one of them played significant roles yesterday and weren't just making up numbers. Great post.Schofield was exactly what we needed
You know I was wondering too
If gaff had been playing ...no sheed ....would Nic Nat have played as well as vardy ....
But geez vardy, Schofield and sheed were all sublime .....stupid ridiculous hey
Well never know but those three replacements were friggin awesome yesterday

So much this. This is where the WAFL stand alone team becomes important for players like Schofield and, arguably, LeCras and perhaps Jetta, as they get older and gradually replaced.
This team needs to be seen as part of the Eagles and these guys need recognition in a mentoring role for the young guys coming through. It shouldn't be seen as a demotion but rather helping securing the future of the club.

So much this.
Sign them up as depth / coaches
Have them directing kids on how the gameplan works and positioning etc etc
Said the same to my bro-inlaw considering how good Sheed was if Gaff plays instead do we even win? Maybe, maybe not who knowsSchofield was exactly what we needed

Ran past Gov and Hurn to rush a behind against Mihocek. Not sure any player in our backline would have had the top-line pace to do that. Absolutely stoked that he is forever a WCE premiership player
This may be a big call byt Schoefield was our best man imo.
It was scary how often he won the contest.
His workrate and footy intelligence were unbelievable.
I wonder if his relative freshness worked in our/his favour?
Who knows - he may not be best 22 bext year but awesome depth to have and I am so glad he can call himself a West Coast Premiership Player!!
Answer, he doesn't sit..Schofield - Where does he sit.
Loved the vision of him walking through the airport.
Nat Edwards: “Who was best on ground?”
Will Schofield: “Definitely a backman. Give it to Gov.”
Will has a bad case of backman's rage- loved this comment about De Goey- " it’s a backman’s worst nightmare when you see the player you’ve kept to not much in the forward line go to the midfield and bloody midfielders let him off the leash"
Schofield played a blinder and loved his attack on the contest.Ran past Gov and Hurn to rush a behind against Mihocek. Not sure any player in our backline would have had the top-line pace to do that. Absolutely stoked that he is forever a WCE premiership player
Cole notched our highest recorded speed in the grand final too. Faster than I thought he was.Schofield played a blinder and loved his attack on the contest.
I think you are underselling our defenders. Sheppard is usually ranked in top 2 for us in high speed running during game. Cole and Jetta both have decent speed but the others you mentioned would struggle.
Yup so agree
Jetta going over to Ryan at 3/4 time .......that’s a wise head
Also lecras has been awesome Ryan and riloi
Agree - I love the way Louis has grouped the three of them together and made them a mini team. The challenge to Liam in the third quarter seemed to have worked. He did it as well against the Pies in the QF.Club needs to keep Jetta as a mentor to indigenous players.
Just watched that bit of play where Sheed left it for Vardy. It was very intuitive. He knew exactly who was around him and what would have happened if he took the ball himself. But it didn't stop there. He kept on running into the forward 50 and received the kick from Kennedy, handballed to Shuey who passed to an unmarked JD in the square (but I won't remind you of what happened next). Sheed was outstanding and would also have been a worthy Norm Smith medallist himself.I suspect those three guys would have been really motivated to play well ....I mean you don’t need any extra motivation ,..it’s a grand final
Sheed was sublime and dare I say classy yesterday .....he went in hard ....and intelligent
One play late ...was when he didn’t take the ball and left it for vardy .....if he had taken it ...he would have been purged and possible turn over occurs ...it looked crazy but geez it was the right play ...was about a miniute to go ...do you remember that play
Was near the centre square line towards our 50.
