Is it the tarantulas? I ******* knew it!
You are basically confirming the entire point of the TED talk.
FWIW I am generally dismissive of MRAs but this video makes a whole heap of sense. If only the world could look at womens rights, mens rights, gay rights, trans rights, black rights etc... as just Human rights then we would be a better place.

If you summarise it, people might take notice.

If you just post a video and demand people watch it, people will mostly ignore it.

I’ve watched too many irrelevant, pointless videos posted on here to blindly volunteer my time for the task.

I watched it. Would love to discuss it with you. If you have time, give it a go.

My summary, very quickly:

Details a number of areas where men are particularly disadvantaged compared to women. Some of them are dubious, some surprising and thought provoking. E.g . genital mutilation of babies. It is probably not as bad a thing to happen to boys, but there is a strong case to say it is bad, and it definitely has a much higher prevalence in boys.

Mentions some more obvious ones too, like death from violence, death at work, suicide, military conscription, family Court decisions, etc.

Doesn't deny that in overall summation, women are worse off when it comes to discrimination.

I think the key point is if you know a man or boy who is suffering, be it from something men in particular suffer from, or just in general, then the generalised concept of male privilege is cold comfort. Actually it's not even that.

These folks may be relatively small in number, but their specific plight just gets trumped by their gender when it comes to relevance in the public discourse.

If the compassionate majority ignores or belittles them, unfortunately some of them will look elsewhere for empathy. That elsewhere is often MRA groups that can radicalise them.

Good summary, agree some of the disadvantages are dubious. Suicide, Homelessness, Failure to launch (had to google this concept) are the ones that stood out to me. I disagree that men affected by these 3 disadvantages are small in number, which is why MRA having a mainstream voice is important. I do agree that the dismissive nature of society as a result of these issues not fitting the narrative of male privilege creates underground MRAs that can/will radicalise young men.

You have spent longer than the 15 minute video pointlessly arguing why you wont watch it. I even provided the precise time to start watching the video that points out the disadvantages inherent to men after you questioned what they were.

s**t positing from you in this thread,

I was banned for this line in another thread. Let's see how the rule of law goes this time around.

Here's the biggest issue with certain people bringing up these points, posting videos and articles.

Videos, articles, memes are posted to claim that men have it tough. They get a raw deal in some areas.

This is not in dispute. But is it "because they are men"?

Or is it because of an economic system that is set up to exploit their labour to create monopolies and generate excessive wealth for capital owners? Are they put into these situations by the demands of capital? Sure, those sorts of questions might get the RWNJs enraged and shouting "socialism", but it doesn't change the question itself, just how you might deal with it.

Whatever the case the answer to this is usually set out as "we need to fix things because men have some bad outcomes too".

If you post articles or stats or studies showing women get a raw deal, what is the response? "Women make lifestyle choices that they have to live with."

"Why did she have kids if she knew it would result in less super or lower wages?"

"Why doesn't she leave him if he's being abusive?"

"Why should we pay for her legal costs?"

"Why should she get special services when she made choices that got her into this mess?"

"Feminists just want it all their way and they are unreasonable and dangerous."

Where are these types of questions when male stats are brought up?

"Why did he join the army if he didn't want to die in a war?"

"Why did he get married and have kids if he couldn't afford them on a factory worker's wage?"

"Why did he go to that pub when he knows it's a violent place?"

"Why is he doing that job when it is known to be unsafe?"

Try asking those questions and you will get run out of the country.

The reason it's not a good idea to just dump an MRA meme in a thread or demand people watch a video is because the goal is usually to shut down discussion on the plight of women and minorities in a fallacious tu quoque argument which gets nobody anywhere.

I think the issue here (whether through blind hypocrisy or the inability to have a nuanced view outside of the established narrative around gender issues) is that you thought this was a thread on feminism.

You're really not reading anything bnut what you want to see:

'But is it "because they are men"?'

This answers the CENTRAL THEME OF THIS THREAD - which is "feminist wokeists are hurting our boys".

I will try again, this point would be valid if the thread was about misogyny which you seem to think it is. It is about misandry.

Yeah. Sure.
Damn man, you consider me a troll who just likes being contrarian, but there are plenty of these types of threads that are 20 v 1 against you.

Surely you'll either agree to watch the video being discussed, or bow out of the discussion?
