It had been going for a few years when I finished school in 1998.

The thing I don't get is how you're 18 for leavers now, pretty much across the board. For a lot of reasons I think being in school and a legal adult is pretty ****ed up (I believe you should finish by the time you're 17.5 at the latest), but surely that takes the fun away? I could imagine finishing your last exam and heading down the pub would feel really good, know people in Melbourne in the Essendon area who'd jump on a tram and meet up with mates from nearby schools and all go out somewhere after. But to me 'the allure' is about acquiring alcohol somehow and doing this stuff with that feeling of risk.

I dunno, are parties still big in high school? Or does everyone just wait until they're 18/17 and with a fake ID to go to shitty clubs now?

If someone said 'do you want to go to Dunsborough or some shitty coastal town in Victoria and spend 800 bucks on it' or do you want to go to to two festivals and get pissed at them... I'd definitely take the festivals.

Plus no one actually gets a root at them. It's not like the poindexter at school even gets laid by one of the hot chicks. It's a bunch of flogs wearing white AFL clash jumpers drinking four beers before moving onto UDLs and some people smoke a bong.
