Travel Schoolies

Yesterday began the three weeks of booze-filled youth shennanigans that the media hates so much.

I myself am heading off to Torquay next week to engage in two weeks of drunken behaviour and am wondering if anyone has any stories, advice or the like.

If you're going away with good mates, enough grog and the right attitude anywhere you go could be and should be one of the best weeks of your life.

For most school leavers they haven't gone away with just a group of friends before, huge new experience, so few rules. Its just an insane week...

I did Schoolies in Torquay in 05. I was 17 so couldn't go to the pub, which sucked. I still had an awesome time, even though the weather was pretty ave. Wasn't much of a 'scene' there though.


The next year i was 18 and went with some other friends who were school leavers (and few who weren't) to surfers (so i was a toolie technically). Amazing. Mind blowing. One of the best weeks of my life by a country mile... Like i said you'll have fun anywhere you go, but schoolies is surfers, and to a lesser extent Byron (which is also amazing but different vibe to surfers).

Just walking the streets at 3am and there being thousands of school leavers everywhere, i remember beach parties with DJ's and stages with thousands of people partying, just insane atmosphere. You';d go down to the beach and there would be red bull skate comps on and all that. Was amazing, we had perfect weather all week as well.

Its a lot more regulated now with schoolies.com and all the official stuff but still an amazing week. Envy any kid going on his schoolies to Qld or Byron.

Yeah man, 20th to the 10th. In some ways that sucks, but it means more people which means more girls i guess.

Yeah they don't have all the organised events down at Torquay which sucks. Wish i was going Gold Coast, but didn't have the cash which is kinda unfortunate. Regardless it should still be epic.

Couldn't agree more. Schoolies was fun but I have had way better experiences.

on leavers i found i wasnt used to the 5 consecutive days of drinking/no sleep so by the 4th day i had pretty much crashed.

was still an incredible week.

Schoolies is awesome, did mine in 08 and went up to Byron. One of the best things that I have done. But there are so many better things you will do and I hope to do. Already O-Week (if you live on campus) has topped schoolies.

Recommend not driving long distances after a week heavy drinking/minimal sleep. Mate didn't follow this, flipped his dad's car on the way home.

Same. Would be kinda weird to go now a few years on. Would be like shooting fish in a barrel though which is a major pro to counter the awkwardness of being 3+ years older than most there.

Pretty sure that Leavers won't be happening at Rotto this year. Heard from someone (cant remember who) saying they weren't taking any bookings for 'Leavers.'

Did Schoolies in Apollo Bay last year, I was starting to dread it by the end of term because our group wasn't as close as we were when we planned it, but it ended up being a really amazing week.

My brother went down today, he's pretty nerdy, not sure if he will be writing himself off like I did.
I was there for 8 days, after 4 days of solid drinking my body was like wtf (especially considered I had made the decision to stay sober for the 4 months prior to leavers to knuckle down for exams, I kept to that all bar a few parties so I was very cadbury). I got pretty sick, came back with bronchitis. A mate came back with some pneumonia. Pretty much everyone was sick.

Also WA Leavers 08 would know about that black shit that got in your nose, wtf was with that.
