Defensive pressure is something he needs to work on. So far in 2007 he hasn't laid one tackle.

His defensive pressure has been poor so far this season, but its usually a strong part of his game. He was putting heaps more pressure on last year. Just remember that goal against Brisbane where he cause a turn over to Tambling who goaled.

Shout out to sante who posted the first thread on the Richmond board with his name spelt correctly.

He's a 2 goal a game player.

If he kicks 4 a game, he's worth persevering with

He sees a lot of the pine because he'll get injured if he gets more game time. They're managing him to play more games thi year

Not even some of the greats averaged 4 a game.

He needs to keep his 2 goals a game with the ocasional bag of them, and do more around the ground.

Not even some of the greats averaged 4 a game.

Only 10 players in the entire history of the AFL have averaged 4 goals a game. Richo averages under 3.

I think the days of the 100-goal FF are pretty much toast. The benchmark has to be closer to 70 they way they play now.

yea but he did kick 6 once unfortunately hes living of the back of that performance.
all we have got from schulz is the odd glimpse we havent had a gradual improvement from him and like ive said before hes at where he was when he first came to the club.

the question i ask is how long do we allow players to live of the potential tag without showing any real improvement.

if we are going to persevere with him it should be at coburg. he needs to show he can consistently take games by the scruff of the neck at the lower level. he is getting walk up starts week after week in the seniors for producing very little.he should at the very least be made to earn his spot.
hughes riewoldt mcguane and maybe polak and pattison are the future kpp.imo schulz should be part of a deal to aquire a first rnd pick at yrs end if possible.

All of his statistics are up across the board so far this season despite spending considerable time on the bench. He is improving.

You've got a short memory too. When he went back to Coburg last season after his shoulder injury he did kick big bags of goals at FF over a 3 week period. Certainly showed a lot more at the lower grade than Hughes & co have to date He is beyond that level and is now finding his feet in the senior team.

Jay's here for at least another season in '08 and will have a ten year career at Richmond so you'd better get used to having him around.

Yeah, dominated at FF when he came back through Coburg last year didn't he? Kicked about 15-18 odd goals in 3 weeks. It was around the time he came into the seniors that Coburg went to the sh*tter aswell IIRC.

Currently looks to me more damaging than Richo.

If we can get it into his hands 7 or 8 times a game it'll go a long way to us winning some games.

Hopefully terry starts playing him for 100 minutes per game instead of starting him on the bench and taking him off periodically.

Would like to see him 1 out in the square, with Richo playing further up near chf in the 'hole'.

We had a nice open forward line last week.Thats what schulz needs, hopefully we can pull it off again this week.

EXCEPT for everyone's favourite mangler of the english language....!

Geez and to think I thought PLSC was negative! Santa really must be having a bad day.

What I like about Schulz is that he plays like a proper FF. He runs in straight lines up the guts and smashes packs.

Richo spends most of his time leading to the pocket (where he usually kick goals from the boundary I might add), or wrestling with his opponent.

It's a long time since we have had a decent ortohdox full forward.

i like schulz because he is reliable and is always good for a goal, is way too good for vfl and proved it last year

all he needs to do is grow a brain and get his hands on it more than 10 times a game and he will be a very good player

Agree... although running out of patience, the big fella is just far too good to be running around with the magoos.

But in saying that, he has been shown an enormous amount of faith by both ****ley and Wallace... he better start showing some development. I dont mind the inconsistency if they're at least trying to put in the 1% every week, particularly when they're struggling to get in the game.

Agree.

I hope he has an injury-free year so that we can have a proper idea by the end of the season of where he is at. His injuries so far have made him an unknown proposition.

i dont want to sound harsh but he seems like a really dumb footy player

his hands are solid and his kicking is very good so if he could just get a bit of footy smarts and find a bit of it around the ground it will improve his game bigtime

its all well and good him kicking 2 goals a week and krakouer 5 tackless but if they dont touch it then our midfield which is already struggling are getting **** all reward for effort

In fairness to Shulz (and other forwards), we have been smashed in inside 50's the first two weeks. So conversion rate once inside 50 has been good so far.

The biggest hurdle to Shulz getting his hands on the footy is Richo demanding it.

I think the one thing Schulz needs to do is get another bag of 4-5 goals in a game. The confidence boost he would get from that knowing that he still has what it takes to make it would send him on his way. I see Schulz as a big confidence player and I feel he is lacking in this area because of the injuries over the last 2 years. If he was to get some consistent games under his belt it will make a world of difference.

You cannot expect him to average 4 goals a game. Our midfielders are dumb they always kick the ball to richo when more often then not he will drop the mark or miss the goal anyway.

Schulz needs to become the focus as Richo winds down that's for sure.
Capitalises on his opportunities with deadly accuracy and I want to see him getting as many shots on goal as possible./

Was one of our best tonight. Faded in and out a bit and there were a few time we went way to Richo centric. But then he just jumped in front of Richo.

If he keeps up the way he is playing he'll have 40 maybe 50+ goals. Thats the kind of return i'd be extremely happy with. :thumbsu:

I agree he needs to play a bit smarter, but what I like is that when he is having a shot we know we are a very good chance for a goal. Can't remember when we had a player like that.
