I went to a function yesterday where Demetriou and Schwabby were the main speakers.
I came away with a far greater appreciation of Demetriou and the work he has done. When you hear about the growth in the AFL brand it makes you realise how good a CEO he has been.
I've heard Schwab before and everytime I hear him speak I am more certain that we have the right man at the top.
As he says, being a leader is hard but you have to make the call. And he has shown the courage to do that.
Our club is progressing and he is a large part of that.
Interestingly he spoke of Polly's demise. Freo had just lost the semi that would have put them into the GF. He decided to take the whole team to the GF. Half of the players had never seen a GF so he got the last Melbourne premiership cup and gathered all the players in the middle of the MCG on the Thursday before the game.
A pretty powerful bonding force.
The next day Polly took the opportunity to speak with Wallace. As Schwabby said, at that moment he realised Polly had no part to play in the future of the Fremantle Football Club. A huge betrayal.
And I agree with that.
Tough call but the right one.
Polly, go rot in hell.
He also spoke about leadership.
Warnock pulled Pav over at training and told him he hadn't done a drill properly. Not the sort of thing you normall expect from a young player to the captain.
But Pav responded in the right manner.
Pav stopped training.
Called Harves over and explained that he hadn't completed the drill then went and did it in front of everyone.
Great stuff from Warnock and Pav.
I'm feeling better and better about where this club is heading.
