not really but here goes anyway

1. Essendon. Back to the pack this year as the loss of focus after the intensity of 2000 & good run without injuries will take it's toll. Hard to see them falling in a great heap due to good player depth.

2. Sydney. Out on a limb here. Feel they will absolutly belt visiting teams at the SCG as they used to a few years ago. A super player in Kelly will kick some ass.

3. Richmond. yes I know but they have to start winning sometime. They have a very talented, & tall team & with no injury horrors they will do very well.

4. Brisbane. My team! Voss is fit & should be an AFL standout this year. If Keating's knees hold up he will have a big impact & was missed greatly last year.

5. Carlton. No Kouta, no Carlton. Not quite true with Campo & Lance etc etc. However feel that they will not get a top 4 without a dominating Kouta.

6. Roos. Would be good to see McKernan have a super season. Carey not starting the H & A with 100% fitness will impact early in the season.

7. Melbourne. Hmmmm. If White has a good year & Farmer can string more than 1 decent 1/4 together in a row they should win a decent number of games.

8. Hawthorn. On the up & up. One to watch in 2001?

Fancy that - I was feeling indecisive about putting North so low, they have been up there for so long - Robert Walls has really gone the big one & put them lower. We all know they are fighters & it aint over until the end of the season.

Was that meant to be serious?

Essendon? Good player depth???? HAHAHAHAHA

You saw last Friday night the sought of player depth they have. 28-30 very good players and the rest wouldn't get a game with the Manangatang thirds.

Suddenly you take out Hird, Fletcher and Long and they couldn't even come close to beating Geelong without Hocking, Kilpatrick, J.Mooney, McGrath and Bizzell.

Add to that their disgraceful, heartless and soft performance against Port the week before and you have either got a team who don't always try or a team that simply doesn't have the depth.

Unless they have another relatively injury free year - and it isn't a good start, then they won't finish top.

I disagree with Sydney, until they learn how to win close games they will once again struggle, Williams will be a good pick up though.

I entirely agree with Richmond, a little bit of luck and they will go a long way. I also reckon you've put Hawthorn a little low, top 4 is a definate possibility.

Brisbane are another top 6 side as are Melbourne and Geelong.

Carlton and North are both overdue for a bad season and it wouldn't surprise me if the Bulldogs fell away also. Expect fremantle and Port to be the big improvers.

Nice attempt at humour ITB, but I could only cringe with embarrassment with your choices.
So here are mine (without Bias):

1. KANGAROOS - With SAV and Carey both kicking over 100 goals and McKernan, Abraham, Harvey and Grant also contributing around 40 each, no one gets within a Nuns nasty of the Kangaroos.

2. MELBOURNE - Again played strongly all season only to disintergrate like Schwartz's knee in the Grand Final. Are they the new Geelong??

3. ESSENDON - Bad Prelim draw sees North thrash them by 20 goals. Deserved at least a Grand Final, but only so North can humiliate them in front of an international audience.

4. HAWTHORN - Improved from last year (getting rid of Salmon was always an improvement), but 4th is more indicative of how weak the competition is, not how good they are.

5. SYDNEY - Unbeatable at home, can't beat my grandmother away.

6. FREMANTLE - Bell given the key to city of Fremantle after he lifts them to the finals. The key is returned when they lose in the first week to the geriatrics from Carlton.

7. CARLTON - Ageing side, and starting to look it. Last good season before a big rebuilding program required. (Rumour of the year. Craig Bradley to become a great-great grandmother.)

8. - PORT ADELAIDE - couldn't think of anyone else to fill this unnecessary finals position.

Cringe away

gocatsgo,

Be pepared for me to bring up that post when we kick your ass (and several other teams) throughout the course of 2001. It's still the pre-season.

We do have depth. Have a look at our list of 38 and rank them. Unfortunately ALL clubs have less depth due to the cut back from 42 players to 38.

I really do rate Sydney. I can see them finishing 2nd on the ladder to the Bombers. Losing in many close finished can be attributed to bad luck, but with the return of the best captain in the competition (Paul Kelly) they will be right up there this year. They will be next to impossible to beat at the SCG, and have been one of the few interstate teams that have always performed admirably away from home.

Well the fact that we had 30 scoring shots to 27 indicates that we came very close to beating the Cats. In fact, with the amount of ball we had, and the amount of shots we had on goal, I believe we should have won. Bad kicking is bad football I suppose, but our innacurate first half (1.11.17) effectively cost us the game. Remember, we penetrated the scoring area more times than the Cats, so we must have been doing something right.
